Pathetic is the best way to describe F4 DLC

I posted this elsewhere, but it seems relevant to this conversation,

As someone who is active in most the complaint threats, my point of view, is that it’s about perceived value, the DLC for F04 is not perceived to be worth what they’re charging for it.

Wasteland workshop, was smaller and it did not have many features that you could not find in the free mods you could find on the nexus. So it wasn’t perceived to be worth what they charge for it. On top of that the whole settlement system was not wanted by a large percentage of the traditional audience for these types of games. So devoting half the season Pass to content that is perceived as worthless to a large portion of your audience. Bad marketing move, on the level of horse armor.

The F04 base game is rather short on quests. If you compare it to its previous iterations and the elder scrolls series, F04 uses the radiant quests system as a crutch to an attempt to make it seem like there’s a lot of quests. That, combined with the voice protagonist, limiting the amount of dialogue choices that could reasonably be included within this game’s budget, another bad design decision. That meant less player freedom, and dialogue choices, while making it harder for the mod community add quests that wouldn’t stick out like a sore thumb. From what was expressed on the nexus forms and here, people were hoping for more storyline DLC, akin to Automatron. Far harbour a great. Nuka world I’m hoping will be great…

I think from a marketing standpoint they would’ve been better off if they combined all the workshop one package, charging $15-$20 (Canadian) you would see less outrage about it and the perceived value would’ve been accepted by the entire community. I would really be interested to see the sales numbers for the workshop DLC, without the season Pass holders….. Personally I think splitting it up like that was marketing move to try and get more season Pass purchases, if the polls what I’ve seen on here. They might’ve just killed the trust in perceived value of the season Pass.

If memory serves me, Skyrim didn’t get much outrage around only having three DLC $45-$50 depending on where you live. Because they just packaged it in a way, that was perceived to have more value, then they did this game.

All in all fallout 4 is a great game, it’s just not a traditional Bethesda RPG. Bethesda just talk it down a path and its traditional audience is not comfortable with judging by the results of this poll As, relatively passionate fans, of fallout or Skyrim would you, prefer RPG formula(Skyrim/New Vegas) or Open world,Storyline driven experience, with a progression (Fallout 4/Farcry) , and they continued this trend, with the DLC……. What your knee-jerk reaction, was the DLC worth it to you? Did you want the workshop system? Are you excited about the new workshop DLCS?

Edit to include poll : Settlement system, and workshop DLC value Poll

I still don't get why everything needs a story, Wasteland Workshop didn't need to have some arbitrary story pushed on it because let's face it none of the ideas were complex enough to deem one save for the emitter and even then that can be explained as an experiment by the SS. As for "modders were already doing it!" no modder made a cage system that captures animals, people and everything in-between or a fully functioning arena mechanic that can be built in any settlement.

Like hell, were people this pissed off when GRA and Courier's stash was released for New Vegas? At least Wasteland workshop has more function then "DLC that lets you shoot more guns"

While what they did was nice I would much rather they had stuck to creating story, quests and new world spaces.

Workshop stuff can be done by modders

I guess you're with the wrong game company when expecting a story. There are weaknesses and strengths of every game company. Storytelling was never where Bethesda shined.

After Morrowind, my first Bethesda game, I never would have bought any of their games for their story, since they never were elaborate or offered real choices, or NPCs that grew or even acknowledged your achievements.

I play Beth games for different reasons. Their world, and building settlements is part of the world. In previous games I hoped the modders would take care of the missing story elements. Not sure about that now with fully voiced. But Beth expanding on the workshop isn't the worst thing they could do. According to my opinion anyway.

If you want quests and story, you picked the wrong dev. Even if they made a dlc with 200 quests each last 10 hours that they spent 10 years making, i would hardly think any one of them would be above ok-good in story. Thus, if it was worth buying for the story and quests.

Even Skyrim, the one hailed because to much quests and to much to do has boring-ok dungeons and it quests are to simple and lack depth and good writing. FO3 was just trying to be edgy and was very black and white. Even oblivion writing was not really that good to buy because story. to blunt, many quests and lines were even cringe worth. Why would one demand good story from beth after about three games is odd.

You are better off trying pretty much any other game, just not beth and maybe never beth. Beth is about the world and doing wtf you want, never gameplay or story.

I have to say, if nuka world was the last dlc for fo4. I would be ok with being the last it if was dame freaking huge overall and was cool as s***. Since as soon as i heard it was the last, i was kind of pissed.

I don't mind the workshop dlcs, people love that feature a ton and before the next was after FH. i want to see it way more polished in later games however. Like way more. but good writing? nope i think that would happen.

Honestly like people here said, majority of the stuff Bethesda can do, modders can do and did do. As quest DLCs goes I honestly got more enjoyment from someguy2000 New Vegas mods more than any official Bethesda DLC (guy knows how to make a good story) What I do wish Bethesda did for DLC is introduce a game play function that is some what harder for even the most dedicated modder to make (C'mon Bethesda, give me dual pistols with dual pistol wipping animation!)

I would like to point out that there aren't enough varieties of chairs in the workshop packs to make this at all like The Sims. They need at least 20 packs dedicated mostly to chairs and at least one of those packs needs to be backed by a furniture company and another needs to be backed by a celebrity.

Not even close.

7/10 not enough chair packs.

As a Sims player, I found this pretty funny and sadly accurate.

You forgot DLC that are huge parts of the main games.

Sims 4 DLC is even a bigger shame than Fo4 dlc.

The funny thing is that there is a argument that settlement building and the sims are like the same thing on the official Beth forums. It's like people over there have never actually seen how the Sims games play. People are constantly going "WE DON'T WANT THE SIMS DLC FOR FALLOUT 4!" and are actually serious Edited by CiderMuffin
