iXenite
The funny thing is that there is a argument that settlement building and the sims are like the same thing on the official Beth forums. It's like people over there have never actually seen how the Sims games play. People are constantly going "WE DON'T WANT THE SIMS DLC FOR FALLOUT 4!" and are actually serious I think it's funny too. To be honest, if Settlement Mode actually did play like The Sims that would be awesome (in my opinion). It would make the micromanagement and building a lot easier, that's for sure. Plus, Sims actually (for the most part) do what they're told. Settlers seem to enjoy hammering walls more than they do standing guard. At least they do for me. Personally I find Marcy Long constantly keeps sleeping in my bed (no matter how much I ask her to stop and sleep with her husband) but then shuns me in the morning. I mean, seriously, Marcy, you're giving me really mixed messages. Though I think I've personally been disappointed by the settlement building because it's not enough of a game in and of itself. It's something cool you can do in the game, but I was kind of hoping for the settlements to be a major feature of gameplay instead of a sandbox to make cool things in. If the building system was like it, it would be faster, less buggy, easier to build, and has a lot of options and it is fun to use. It really good. The sims also make for great Rp games. You can do a lot of stuff to define your character many RP players would surly love, like voice tone, walking style, traits, you can do a lot of stuff with any npc. It always struck me as odd when they say that. I mean just read some of this https://www.reddit.com/r/AskReddit/comments/30r1l8/what_is_the_worst_thing_youve_ever_done_in_the/ Same when they say they don't want a shooter, it just a gameplay thing and you can still get a good game from any point (story, combat, ai) from it. Like portal, half life, bioshock and other good all around shooters that are great games and not just kill fests. Though I think I've personally been disappointed by the settlement building because it's not enough of a game in and of itself. Your points on the settlement system are all valid. I kinda feel the same way sometimes. I agree. I think we can all agree that there is some really cool world building and RP you can do in the Sims. I've probably had more devastating and memorable experiences in the Sims then I have in any other game. As for people not knowing what they want, I've kind of come to expect that now. The more you read posts about what people dislike in all of these different games you realize that people really can't be pleased. I think Fallout 4 in general terms is kind of like that. A lot of people wanted Bethesda Games Studios to mix things up with their games and complain when it wasn't Fallout 3 or New Vegas with shinier graphics. Fatalmasterpiece
I'm pretty happy with the DLCs. The major shortcoming with Bethesda IMO are characters/NPCs. Generally, their characters go from tolerable (like Piper) to meme-generatingly hated like Preston Garvey. There are no characters I absolutely love like I could say of Bioware or Squaresoft games. Bethesda has no iconic NPCs like other game companies do.

cossayos
Honestly like people here said, majority of the stuff Bethesda can do, modders can do and did do. As quest DLCs goes I honestly got more enjoyment from someguy2000 New Vegas mods more than any official Bethesda DLC (guy knows how to make a good story) What I do wish Bethesda did for DLC is introduce a game play function that is some what harder for even the most dedicated modder to make (C'mon Bethesda, give me dual pistols with dual pistol wipping animation!) I get more enjoyment from FNVs vanilla story in the first place. But it cannot be stressed enough that FNV was Obsidian's doing. And they know how to tell a story and make it interactive. Someguy's mods certainly added to the pleasure. I got all of them installed.
Boombro
Yeah, they are skilled writers with many good games on their belts, it almost comedy to think many thought Fo4 would like FNV.
CiderMuffin
Eh, to be fair most of the good part of New Vegas outside of DLC in terms of the writing is just the background fluff. A lot of the quests didn't even really have writing behind them and most of the NPCs lack any personality outside major figures and companions. To me, New Vegas showcases the differences between Obsidian and Bethesda Games Studios. I think Bethesda is top notch at world building, but writing is not their strong suit. Obsidian is the reverse, at least as far as New Vegas is concerned. The writing for New Vegas, and general RPG elements were great in New Vegas. The world was bland and dull to me though. I do wish Obsidian were to get another chance at Fallout though. I kind of like the idea of the two companies bouncing the title back and forth. They both offer different things that I happen to like.
