Skyrim complete PC crashes

Howdy,

I'm the guy that posted the AMD custom drivers on page 50, nice to hear that it worked for a couple people.

And even I myself played until today without a SINGLE Black screen using them.

Today, however, I started up Skyrim and within 5 minutes BSOD. Reboot, restart, repeat thrice.

Since then I sweeped my drivers in Safe Mode (again!), tried all other possible solutions, including that atiumdag.dll posted a few pages back.

This time, nothing helped, not the custom drivers, nothing.

I just don't understand it. How is this even physically possible? I didn't change ANYTHING on my computer, but suddenly after 2! weeks the drivers stopped working?

Seriously, it's like the game's f*cking with me, or something.

It can't be the patch. I didn't patch the game until this afternoon, after I had the crashes. It didn't do anything, by the way.

Anyways, I hope this gets fixed soon.

Bob

I believe I've made progress!

I'd tried every one of the suggested fixes except using rivatuner to underclock the GPUs memory. I did this and was able to play on my level 56 characer for hours- the one that used to inevitably freeze/lock up my pc.

It's harsh as my GPU already only has a 400mhz memory clock, but I reduced it to 250 and am experiencing perfect stability. Adversely, if I overclock the memory, (despite my GPU staying cool and working fine OC'ed with other games,) I experience the freeze/lockup issue within minutes.

To date this is the only thing that's worked for me. If I experience the issue again I'll make sure to edit this and repost.

Update: Scratch that. Just took much longer than before :(

I quit. I've spent all of the last 4 days troubleshooting skyrim, have done dozens of hard resets in the process and I fear for my hardwares safety. Bethesda, you suck. Hope they'll still let me return my copy, because after this B.S. I'm going to pirate it for free in like 3 or 4 months when they've actually got their s*** together.

Goodbye and good luck

[..]

Computer that runs it just fine (not mine, figures)

GeForce GTX 260 card

Windows 7 32 bit

4gb ram

That's interesting. I have the same, and I cannot play Skyrim because of hard resets. What hardware are you using ? Here I have a 3ghz Intel Core 2 Duo (no overclocking), a P5Q Asus motherboard (intel chipset), 4 go DDR2, and my GTX 260 comes with 896 Mo built-in RAM.

By the way, the game also works perfectly here on a old laptot with a HD2600 mobility radeon: maybe Path2Victory is pointing in the right direction.

Possible fix for Ati Users:

I found what seems to be a fix for this tedious full system crash when visiting the bethesda forum post mentioned a few pages ago on this thread (the compilation of everything we have tried). I'll post what I found on the thread here to make things easier.

Note: I don't think that this will work for Nvidia users, only ATI.

--------------------

Download atiumdag.dll from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ICEDIU66

See the link at this forum post

http://www.overclock...0#post_15656590

Open folder

steam > steamapps > common > skyrim

Drag atimgpud.dll into the steam folder. (This is to just get it out of the skyrim folder without losing the file in case this does not work.)

Place atiumdag.dll in the skyrim folder (steam > steamapps > common > skyrim)

--------------------

This has fixed the full system crash when opening my map as well as the random crashes that we have all suffered dearly. I hope that this helps everyone else. I'll post back if I run into any issues using this "fix".

I have tried this after coming home from work, and it seems to work for me (Got the problem 100+ hours into the game when opening/using the map). But keep in mind that I did not have time for more extensive testing. Others are reporting problems with this fix (low fps), for some it works. Worth a try in my opinion.

Here's my rig:

Intel Core 2 Quad 2,4 GHz

Win 7 Pro x64

6GB RAM

2GB AMD Radeon 6970 with 11.9 drivers (11.11b didn't work either)

OCZ Vertex 3 SSD 120 GB

Don't wanna cheer too soon, but thanks Falthos for posting this!

Glad to hear we have more success with this! I'll post my setup so that we can compare rigs and see if its specific ATI cards that this fix works on.

Win 7 Ultimate x64

Phenom 2 Deneb 3.2Ghz

4 GB DDR2 800 RAM

HIS ICE-Q TURBO 6870 with latest catalyst

750 GB 72000 RPM Sata HD

750W Corsair PSU

Hey Falthos I have very similar specs compared to you, and I'm still getting the full black screen crash. I just installed the "AntiBSOD ENBSeries 0.094 Patch 7 TES Skyrim" (not the .093, could this have something to do with it you think?) and the other "atiumdag.dll" fix to no avail. Also running the 4gb patch. I have the latest 11.11c Catalyst drivers installed as well. Is there anything else you can think of that I may be doing different or wrong?

AMD Phenom II X6 Six-Core Processor 1090T (3.2GHz)

Asus M4A89GTD PRO/USB3

HIS Radeon HD 6870 IceQ X Turbo X 1 GB

G.SKILL Sniper 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Windows 7 64-bit

Is the file that you're editing the skyrim.ini? I don't see a "bUseHardDriveCache=0" or "bUseHardDriveCache=1" line to edit. There's also the skyrimprefs.ini where I don't see that either. Could you say what .ini file and what folder it's located in again?

It seems that the only main difference is the version of ENBSeries patch we are using (I'm using Patch 6, without enabling the memory reduction feature). I haven't looked at Patch 7 (and personally don't want to mess with anything now that it is working and 100% stable for 8 hours of gameplay). I did restart the game after using the fix I mentioned earlier (this may or may not be substantial to my stability).

Look at my post below this one for njemopogi and see if the driver version is the same in Device Manager

I'm using the EBNSeries patch 6 (without enabling the memory reduction feature)

Latest ATI Catalyst drivers (or should be anyway, Device Manager shows Version 8.911.0.0)

I also have the 4GB patch in my skyrim directory but I am launching through steam so that shouldn't matter.

ENB patch 7 is out now, just remember Boris is still using 1.1 (I'm never going to use 1.2 either!) and needs feedback if it works with 1.2.

BTW- Who is going to have the time to read through 85 pages in a single thread? The working solutions really ought to be posted on their own!
