JackTrenton
I used to never see these, but I guess they are more common as I level. This freaking thing soaks up damage like a sponge, has a stealth boy effect that only gives me a brief window to use VATS, and this sword attack that instant kills me. If I manage to get some distance it shoots that crazy laser beam out of its eyes that takes me out. I use a sawed off shotgun with an advanced receiver for up close kills on robots. It usually works every time, but even critical hits barely phase this thing. I tried to set up a pulse mine and 5 frag mines in its path. That blew its legs off, but it still lived and kept crawling towards me. Is there an easier way to take these down?
noahdvs
Get robotics expert and sneak or cloak up to it. Now you have a powerful ally. Edited June 29, 2016 by noahdvs

Mavkiel
*blinks* God, for a moment there I thought this was a good thread for the site that shall not be named. assaultron Dominator *owning* a person. Sounds like a neat mod. Anyhow, depends on your difficulty settings and armor setup. If you're in power-armor and getting murdered, not much I can do to help you. Otherwise, I suggest crippling the bastard, mines/grenades or vats. That will allow you to get to safe distance and just nibble away at it's health. cossayos
Your first priority with any kind of assaultron should be it's legs. Once it's down, it at least can't use the instakill laser beam anymore. At least not effectively.
TheGadget1945
When I first started playing FO4, I had a major problem with a Super Mutant Suicider which killed me and kept on killing me every time I respawned. My solution was to pump myself full of Chems so I was able to resist the explosion and survive. You don't say where the Assaultron is, but there is one at Quincy Police Station and every time I fast travelled there I spawned right next to it and 2 or 3 Gunners, so I was easily killed. The solution was to fast travel to Quincy Ruins instead and fire missiles at it.

The glowing device is a dead giveaway and I'm rather into collecting nuclear material than nukes anyway. Hardly ever used the Fatman, since there's hardly any group standing conveniently together waiting for my pleasure. Later in game I use artillery rather than nukes. Much more efficient. You should get a mod to remove the line of sight check on the mininuke explosion.

I don't use Mini Nukes much either but in the case of the Suicider I was early on in the game so not very damage resistant and my previous save had been a long time before so I didn't have much choice. When I respawned it was about 30 yards away so I had no time to run and my only effective weapon at that time was a Quad Missile Launcher I had. Even so, it exploded and I just had enough health to inject myself again.
JackTrenton
The assaultron from the OP was protecting a military barge with a Mr. Gutsy on the road to Croup Manor. I was doing the mission for the railroad where you turn it into a safe house. But they have appeared more frequently in other places. I can't fast travel around them because I don't believe in fast travel. It breaks immersion, and its much more rewarding to wander on foot and experience all the random chaos the wasteland has to offer. The only exceptions are vertibird travel and use of the Institute relay, which are compliant with the lore. I will also use fast travel to unload gear, but I consider these moments "non-canon" and only do so for convenience. I never fast travel for actual missions or exploration.
