Just for FUN! Your favorite and least favorite Companions. :)

Okay, there have been some "heavy" - "bugs" - "disappointment" threads.

I'm not going to worry about "Spoilers" at this point - because the game was released last November 2015 and here it is, July 2016, 8 months later.

BUT I WILL SAY THIS:

IF YOU HAVE NOT PLAYED THE GAME THROUGH - DO NOT READ THE POSTS AS THEY WILL LIKELY CONTAIN SPOILERS.

Thought it would be fun to have a lighter topic.

As the title states, what is your Favorite and least favorite Companions and why?

I'll start.

My favorites are:

Nicky V.

He has a great back history / story and he has random dialogs with other NPC's throughout the Commonwealth, including a 'case on the mysterious stranger!' I loved it when he responds to the Mysterious Stranger. It actually made me smile with that "little touch' in the game.

Then the conflict of knowing he is '.. just a machine..' with someone else's life memories.

They really did a most excellent job with Nicky V.

MacCready:

I enjoy this guy too! It makes me want to go back and play FO-3, just to go back to Little Lamplight. :)

But we also get some more background and a quest to help him out. We get a sense of his struggles in the Wasteland - but Capital and Commonwealth. His life has been anything but easy.

Danse, for similar reasons, he has a story, but with a Twist, when we find out he is a Synth. This guy is 100% BoS, heart and soul.

I do wish, we would have had a small quest to find out who & why and how he got into the BoS as a synth. Much like how we get the 'story' of Nicky V. That would have been fun, to have an 'inside' the Institute to find out the history of Danse.

Deacon. -aka- "The Deac" or "Deac" as I would call him. :)

I really like this character, but I have to admit, I hate the "no stories to follow", stories that are given to us. He is buy the 'book', but yet .....

It would have been nice to have a small quest about Barbara and the Deathclaw Gang. I would have LOVED to hear about some of his adventures in the Capital Wasteland! I guess I would have like a little more depth, like they did with Nicky V. and MacCready.

But, he is still one of my favorite companions. I just keep waiting for him to slip a Stealth Boy and "bug out". ;)

Wait, what about Dogmeat??

Glad you asked. I was upset in no small way that "man's best friend" was left to the sad state of "limited companions". So I found a mod that allowed Dogmeat to be just that: "man's best friend." So it doesn't matter if Nicky V. - Deacon - MacCready, et all go with me. Dogmeat is always at my side. :)

Codsworth. He's a robot, and please do not get me wrong. He is "part of the family" - but .... I like him, I do .... but he is not at the "top of my list" - but he is also not at the 'bottom of the list'. He is,well ... a robot. I guess just slightly below "man's best friend", but not quite.

Now, before I goto the least favorite. Here is fun question:

How many of you, like me, find yourself actually, talking outloud to / with the character on your screen? Yes, I will poke fun at myself and say with no shame, I DO! Nicky V, would say something and I would respond. Deac would say something, and I would go, "Well ....? Tell me more about the Capital Wasteland, please!" Or in the case of Strong, " .. would you please STHU, you are annoying me in no small way."

Now, Ada is between these two lists. I don't dislike "her", when we are on the road, she can be a great defender and she is not annoyed by helping carrying things, like Lydia from Skyrim is! And unlike the other Companions, she does not judge you when you do "good" or "bad". I just HATE her cycled mindless dialogs when I'm at home trying to R & R. I have to send her to Sanctuary, to keep my Red Rocket Man Place in a state of P & Q. :)

My least favorite:

Strong, is at the top of my list. He is simply annoying in no small way. Yes, I actually tried to NUKE HIM, he annoyed me that much. But it FAILED. :P

The one thing that annoyed me is the: Milk of Human Kindness. Here was an opportunity that was missed, totally missed. Personally, what I would have liked is/was some Quest that "went there". It could have been a Missing Book or something. That when the Quest was completed, it 'gave an answer', to Strong that changed his personality a bit and he became a little 'wiser' - 'kinder' - LESS ANNOYING! :)

There was a great opportunity here and it was MISSED. IMHO.

So I sent him to a Settlement as far from me as I could, hoping that they would be able to kill him. Nope.

I was not expecting Faux from FO-3, but I was not expecting the most annoying Mutant they could create to be a companion. Even Granny in FO-NV was at least fun to be around ....

Curie. At first I was going, "okay, an interesting take on A.I. But soon, too soon for me, I started to call her, Curie the nag. She too, soon, joined Strong in another settlement.

I had hopes that they would kill each other. But I was sad to find out they did not. In fact, I'm convinced that they have a thing going! :P

Ada, from the Robot DLC. I

I have not taken Piper or the other companions "on the road", yet .... so I cannot speak of them ... but likely will at some point?

.... NEXT .....

Favorite - Nick. He's just plain awesome, and even though I haven't even touched Far Harbor yet I'm looking forward to taking him along. Dogmeat comes in at a close second because A: I love dogs in general, and B: he's just that good. And with the Everyone's Best Friend mod, running with Nick and Dogmeat is pretty much the best of both worlds.

Least favorite - toss-up between X6-88 and Strong. X6 works for the one faction I flat-out can't stand, plus he looks and acts like he was created at the very bottom of the Uncanny Valley. Strong is... well, strong, but that's his only semi-redeeming feature. Everything else about him makes me wish it were possible to kill him.

My least favourite is the dog.

I've never gotten Curie, Preston or McCready, they don't interest me at all.

I've had Cait once but haven't bothered since.

I guess my favourite would be Hancock as my character can act normal and not be judged or nagged at all the time.

I haven't played with all the companions yet but my favorite so far would probably be Piper. The voice actress did a good job and she has a good range of dialog, some lines that I've only heard once or twice. I picked a master lock super fast one time and I heard her say something along the lines of " Wow. Your getting good at that, like next time your over at my place, I'll need to keep an eye on you". It was completely unexpected and I had never heard her say it before as I have picked most locks pretty quickly but it made me laugh. I haven't really heard it since either.

Nick was a really well thought out character and I enjoyed having him around. The voice actor did a good job too. I didn't play with him until I took him to Far Harbor, which made a lot of sense story-wise.

I liked the story with Curie as well but her limited range of dialog and that french accent I could only stand for so long.

I avoided Cait as soon as I heard that horrible forced Irish accent. I did eventually go back and travel with her and she has an okay story with a few good lines but not nearly enough range to keep it interesting.

I adore Dogmeat and tried to travel with him from the beginning but I got so tired of tripping over or being blocked by him wherever I tried to go that I had to send him to Sanctuary. They made him too realistic.

I traveled with Ada for a while and a few robot companions I made and while they all had great firepower and defensive instincts I got tired of Ada running everywhere (usually into me) with her assaultron legs and was tired of hearing the tank tread audio of a stuck robot companion trying to free itself.

As for the others I haven't traveled with them yet. I may eventually but they don't really appeal to me at all, especially Strong.

Well to be blunt I hate using any companion unless I'm forced to do so because of a quest requirement. They just bug the crap out of me always in the way and screwing up the menu when I'm trying to scavenge certain containers or activating certain switches. Most noticeably was friggin' Ada while doing Automatron. Not sure why I had so many issues with her but she drove me crazy.... I prefer to be loner when playing FO games. But to each their own.

Ada is a pain. Not there when you need her and always in your line of sight when you don't. Gets even worse when giving her Aussaultron legs. I thought this might be a good way to make her more efficient, but the only result was more of a nuisance.

Strong has over 1,000 lines of voiced dialogue, which is more than most characters in most other games...

Yet, he pretty much says nothing of value and has no character development beyond 'I don't like things, let me smash'. Somehow with all those 1,000 lines, all you ever hear is the same 3 things over and over and over again.

Could you possibly be any less efficient if you were trying?

I could be cool with a character that doesn't have much personality like Strong, but once I saw how many lines of dialogue they recorded it just... I don't even know what to say honestly... it is just plane wasteful beyond comprehension.

I would have just left her at Sanctuary once I knew where I had to go if I didn't need her to unlock those special door mechanisms. And she never shuts up.... Though she is definitely a good fighter but so am I...

I have played them all. So here is one opinion.

I really liked Nick and Cait. Nick was easy going, unpretentious and fun to work with; and he is the companion I keep going back too. Cait was not the stereotypical helpful companion as she was sacrilegious, sarcastic and sometimes downright rude; which I found refreshing.

Deacon was OK, but after a while he got predictable. Dance was just too "Ad Victorium" to be around. Curie was just too needy. For the most part, Codsworth was useless. Hancock was fun, and his comments where either funny or meaningless. The only thing that recommends MacGready is his Killshot Perk. Strong was just annoying (and I tried to kill him too). X6-88 was boring and had no personality. Old Longfellow was nonsensical and rambled. Ada was nice as a pack Brahman but not much else.

I really hated Preston and Piper. They both seemed just way too judgmental for my taste. The only thing I remember either of them liking was when you accepted a quest to help some hapless settlement.
