Sabi
I know I may be far off since no one really knows, but Skyrim has taught us a lot about the actual Elder Scrolls. Straight to the point: I think the Dwemer may have used a scroll and unintentionally transported their entire race on the same plane - basically any Dwemer that lived on Nirn rather than on another plane of existence like the one you see in Morrowind - either through time into the future, to another plane of existence. I am not saying for sure, since its still possible that their attempt at creating a new God may have caused them punishment of all disappearing - along with other theories. Here's hoping that somehow the next TES answers some of these questions or introduces a plot where they return and the player, somewhere along the line, finds out what really happened. Guy97
Ooooor, maybe they sent themselves back in time, doubt it, but they could of pulled an Alduin (going back and time and all) Edit: Wait...I read it better, you pretty much said the same thing :wallbash: Edited November 23, 2011 by Guy97
JimboUK
Sending themselves forward in time would be an excellent excuse for Bethesda to bring them back at some point.
Quirkyblonde
Ah, but then the Dwemer would lose some of their romance, you know? People weren't nearly as into Ayleid ruins as they were Dwemer ruins, cause we know what happened to the Ayleids (At least that's my theory - it might be the lack of cool machinery too). Oh, but have you all discovered Blackreach yet? WOW. As soon as the creation kit is released, I'm totally building myself the world's coolest house there! **edit** (I forgot to mention this) I agree with your theory though. They even had an SPOILER elder scroll hidden in Mzulft. Since it was still there when you retrieve it, it clearly was there when the dwemer poofed. Maybe they screwed with it at the exact time Lorkhan's heart was being messed with and the combination of the two sent the entire race spiraling off into Oblivion or the time stream or something else weird. knightofheaven
honestly not even betesheda knows what happen to then, at least not yet. Maybe in the future they will come up with a story and reveal to us. Edited November 23, 2011 by knightofheaven

Maybe in the future they will come up with a story and reveal to us. Give Beth some cred. I've been playing their games since 'Future Shock' and the add-on 'SkyNET' (which we used Kali on 56k to multiplay with. Waaaaay before gamespy lobbys or whatever.) These guys think things through. We are at Elder #5. I think some people are jumping the gun here. Just wait.
InuyashaFE
I hope they don't bring them back and leave it in mystery, that's part of the allure is that we just don't know what happened, it's all a toss-up. It's the wonder. And the fact that they have so many automatons, and such a vast gap in the level of tech that makes them such an absolutely unique people. WarKirby3333
And the fact that they have so many automatons, and such a vast gap in the level of tech that makes them such an absolutely unique people. they're large ans steam-powered though. makes them seeem like goblin contraptons in WoW.they wouldn't be too unfitting. I oprdict a Return of the Dwemer DLC at some poiint, including the introduction of crossbows and maybe primitive rifles.

I totally agree, I love the mystery of it, and really after Skyrim it only makes the mystery stronger by adding possibilities to what happened. I am not looking for closure, but would love some sort of progress towards mysteries being solved, or closing one mystery that leads to a bigger one. I love how Skyrim literally put an Elder Scroll in the players hands, let him read it without going blind, and have it teach us something about what the powers and capabilities of the scroll are. Maybe the Dwemer were able to harness a fraction of the power from a Scroll, and since they were not meant to it lead to it zapping them out of existence save the last remaining one. So, yes I enjoy the mystery - but I also enjoy plot development that leads to uncovering truths and clues into solving the mystery - but not giving it all up entirely. I agree with the dwemer part, Im so glad bethesda brought back dwemer ruins rather than creating another generic dead civilisation like they did with the ayleids. But I cant believe you get given an elder scroll, its killed the whole mystery and awe which they previously had when the elder scrolls were only mentioned in scattered whispers... not good, really not good.
