templeofninpo
Cluttering and world building would be ridiculously fun with ingame mechanics. Of course its all theoretical, if effort was put into it im sure people could figure out things like grouping textures and such. And just to make clear, im talking about PCs. Heck, voice command activations would be efficient as well.
zrovektor
Ok, I'll say it like this. I'm glad that modding is hard. if it were easy, it would be like Facebook. The nexus would be flooded with "mods" that are nothing more than "OMG check out my (insert single pointless change here)". Modding would become the same kind of word vomit, stream-of-consciousness that you are inundated with on the twittersphere. I can't mod worth a crap yet, but I will be able to eventually because I'm willing to work at it and because I care about the end result. If I wanted to wade through 30 pages of My Little Pony posts, I'd go to deviantart. The kind of people that can stick with it through the difficulty are the ones that deliver quality and are the ones that will support their creations when the bug reports start rolling in. Your way would ruin that. No thanks. Edited August 8, 2016 by zrovektor
cartman1975
@zrovektor 100% ack. The supply of mods already extends the demand. Some recent and really nice mods only get a few downloads nowadays. What we really don't need are more "OMG, cool 111!!!!111" mods without any added value. @templeofninpo There is already are very nice tool to make clutter in all variations: Outfitstudio. If somebody is not able to use that tool (it's like ms paint, but a lot easier to use) i doubt he is able to create something presentable. The only thing which could be interesting is a template generator which enables the player to clone and save buildings. But you will get a lot of compatibility issues when mods were used within the building. The creation kit already can be used to do such things. AGreatWeight
@templeof ninpoLong(er) answer - we already have plenty of tools available to create mods of all different kinds. CK, Nifscope, Gimp, Photoshop, 3DMax to name a few. What people who want to start making their own content need is lots of time, patience & dedication, as well as the willingness to learn, do plenty of research and be prepared to fail & learn from their mistakes.Nothing worth doing comes easy, and anything that is easy isn't worth doing.Generally speaking there's a large disconnect between those who understand the amount of work involved in making quality mods, and those who aren't mod makers themselves who have no understanding of how much time must be sacrificed to learn to use the tools to achieve (at least) reasonable results that they or other people might enjoy using in their own game.Your idea sounds a bit too much like a gimick that would wear thin easily, not to mention that it would most likely end up being clunky to use in the game interface (just look at how difficult and time-consuming it is to build really detailed settlements in the vanilla game)Not to mention that to impliment a system like your suggesting straight into the game interface would require a large investment of time coding which could be spent more fruitfully, and any attempt to do so would inevitably end up (as a previous poster mentioned) as a very shallow and limited experience that wouldn't be worth anyones time.Bottom line, the barrier-to-entry regarding making mods really isn't that high (if you have a reasonably-specced pc and an internet connection), it all comes down to how much effort someone is willing to put into it. In-game gimicks that would only cater to the lowest common denominator are not the answer imho. Edited August 14, 2016 by AGreatWeight
templeofninpo
Mostly was just thinking there would be benefit to some modding done via the crafting ui. And a ui to walk people through voice recording. PS: am not a stranger to modding re: Garbage Guru mod for NV.
