JimmyRJump
Do you have any mods installed that require adding bUseCombinedObjects=0 to your config? Disabling combined objects causes severe framerate impacts for me, with drops as big as 30-40FPS in areas like Lexington, Goodneighbor and others, and it would go hand in hand with your hypothesis that it happens when the game is loading meshes. That might be part of why mine is low, but it really became noticeable after the Anniversary update to windows 10. At least for me it did. I've been using the bUseCombinedObjects=0 setting (needed for the scrap mod Spring Cleaning to work properly) for over half a year and although it's a bit of a burden on my system, it never influenced fps as dramatically as going down by half. Can only speak for myself, of course.

cossayos
As of v1.4 or 1.5, Bethesda reverted to some sort of streaming instead of direct rendering for content loading. It's supposed to shorten load times but it drove RAM use through the roof, somehow... Yeah, I was on an extended Fallout leave between release and patch 1.05. That was when I started to notice bad framerates. Especially in downtown Boston.
JimmyRJump
bUseCombinedObjects No such entry in my Fo4 prefs. The search continues.....It's line 14 in the Fallout4.ini (located at Documents\My Games\Fallout4) under [General]. If it's not there add it yourself. Use Notepad++ to edit .ini files. It's freeware, no hassles.
cossayos
Again, only anecdotal, but I just had some massive stuttering ending up in a CTD at Far Harbor. Now normally, the fog doesn't represent any problem for my machine, but this time round, I had stutters upon leaving the village, then got attacked by a pack of wolves, which turned into a slide show and then the muzzle flash from my gun finally did the game in.The game froze for about ten seconds and then it was back to desktop. So, I'm not sure, because I'm in no way an expert, but that seems rather like an overload for the graphic card to shoulder than any other component. Do you by any chance run F4SE? If so, try gaming without it for a while and see what gives. Also can't remember if you use ENBoost or not. If not, give it a try. Use v0283 to make sure. v0307 seems to do funny things to a lot of players' game.
cossayos
No, I don't have any mod requiring FS4E so far. But thanks for the link. I will give that a try.
jdkzombie
Unrelated, I'm sure, but a strange issue recently is frames hitting 9.7 or so when accessing the weapons mod bench at my house. Scrolling the weapons list slows frames aggressively, but scrolling mods on the weapons is fine.
