I have to wonder, why are the people critiquing porn also not critiquing mainstream media? I think mainstream media has a much bigger role in objectification and giving people poor body image than porn. Mainstream media is incredibly full of Stepford mentality BS and obsession with promoting thinness as the sole indicator of health and beauty. :P

As for the idea that porn causes violence against women, I think that has been laughed out of the criminology books quite roundly. As for whether it furthers stupid assumptions, I'd say yes, that it does. I'd also agree it really shouldn't be taken any more literally than "chick lit" with its trashy, pinkified, Stepfordesque content either. :P

that isn't quite what is being argued I don't think.

It is not the objectification and false perception of reality that media and porn both promote and portray, it is that if you watch porn and jack off your wiener will fall off. the reason given is that you train yourself to only have an arousal response when viewing porn. ( example I am on the train bored for a couple hours and I get a sexual response, travelling regularly, will in need to be a) bored and b) on a train to get a sexual response in the future? My best answer is probably not)

Now if someone is not enjoying health sex, for extended periods of time, like years or something, No matter if they are in the mean time whacking in the shower before work or regularly watching porn when self indulging, I don't doubt that to get into the swing of things once they are getting regular, it might take some effort.

It's like riding a bike.

I'm an average 22-year-old guy and not asexual. So, given those things, I've seen a fair amount of NSFW content. However, I don't have hairy palms or any plumbing problems. I also have clearly not been going around being horrible to random people, so I'm not seeing this imprinting or loss of functionality thing. I also haven't become inured to tasteless rubbish.

Still doesn't link porn and ED.

Well yes and no , a possible link but not absolute proof and lets be fair Nintii did say she wasn't saying it was the main culprit , just that it was its most destructive because of what this DVD and seminar was postulating it could do to the psyche with repetitive imagery and behavior.Which given our understanding of behaviorism and how conditioning and imprinting work is very plausible.I in particular wasn't arguing about a link between porn and ED just the whole pseudo psychology thing .

Not even a possible link has been established. None of what has been said even remotely suggests that men will suffer from ED if they watch porn. I am waiting for some quantification of how much, over how long, one must view to lead to ED.

12% of the internet is made of porn websites, 60% of men renting hotel rooms order some porn. you'd think this ED thing would be something that over half the men in the world would be suffering from considering the prolific use of porn. http://internet-filter-review.toptenreviews.com/internet-pornography-statistics.html

I find it suspect that this seems to be a far less of an issue that one might imagine.. where are the millions and millions of reports of this happening to men?

My best friend has a Pharm-D and he said that about 40% or more of ED medications are written to men with no ED issues...its just for recreational drug use.

I read somewhere that Viagra is useless as a recreational drug, your hard on won´t get any better if you are already healthy.

Personally I don´t buy the theory that Porn affects a mans capability of achieving erection. At least I haven´t noticed any results other than reduced amount of lust due to aging, which is quite sad, I have never even had sex yet and I´m already starting to lose the capability of having it and healthy young women don´t want a limp dicked man and my idea of a good relationship is NOT two people having a platonic conversation.

I'm a woman and I see nothing wrong with porn.

We're sexual creatures. Nothing wrong with using imagery to stimulate our senses and our...well...you get the idea

I don't think it's degrading. I don't think it's wrong. Don't think it's bad.

If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to look at it. I think it's very practical and very handy. Whatever floats your boat

rofl it isn't used alone as a recreational drug, a lot of drugs decrease your sex drive or disable your ability to have sex, viagara is used to overcome those obstacles. get with the program
