IronDusk33
So, I've made a private mod that I haven't released yet that utilizes some edited assets from Wearable Bards Lute and Retex, by Dragonis0. However, Dragonis0 has been banned since 2012, so I can't contact him to get his permission to use assets. So I'm wondering how, or if, I can properly get permission to use his assets. Now that he's banned are his assets public domain? Or can no one use them at all unless someone manages to contact him? Or do I need to change my mod so that it requires his mod to be downloaded and installed?
Ryagard
Just because he is banned, does not make the files public domain. They are still his and thusly you would need his permission. You can only include them with his blessing, and reaching him is probably unlikely so I'd just say to remove the parts from his work from your mod. micalov
No they are not public domain, you cannot use anything they created with out their permission. Getting permission is your duty, being available to give permission is not a mod authors.
Ethreon
His assets are his whether banned or not. Unless you can get him to agree (and make sure those assets are not stolen or anything), you can't use them.
IronDusk33
Right, well this is why I asked before releasing that mod.

dalsio
If you have your mod require that his/hers be installed (ie. you aren't including any of their assets in your mod, only references to them) then you have no need for their permission. That being said, you might be able to contact them on the official Bethesda forums. I don't know if this is the same Dragonis0 but it's worth a shot.
