2011: Best and worst games,

so maybe U3/Res' 3 will be good-don't know yet. I might try the console version of Skyrim for better luck.

i personally dont like the Uncharted series, but im a huge fan of Resistance. however, imo, R2 is the best in the series. R3 did a lot of new things compared to R2, a lot of improvements, but the one big thing they didnt keep was online coop. R2 had an amazingly fun online coop "campaign" 8 players, 3 classes to lvl up to 30, upgrades, etc. mad fun. but nothing like that for R3. the competitive was pretty fun, though there were a couple of OP weapons, and it was really buggy at first. unfortunately i stopped playing before the patch, idk how busy online is anymore. there is a campaign coop. 2 players. fun if you know the person, otherwise no where near as good as the R3 online coop....also, i dont feel like R3 progressed the story any. R2 left A LOT of questions, and really pushed the story. R3 didnt barely do anything with it. so while it improved a lot, it also (i wouldnt say took a step back but) didnt progress in a lot of areas as well.....still deff a buy though. just make sure if you wanna try online (which includes the coop i believe) you gotta get the game new or purchase that stupid PSN Pass they tried with this game.

Worst game of this year? Likely MW3, it was nothing more than repackaged MW2 with a few minor changes and one new game mode.

Biggest disappointment? Skyrim - so much potential wasted, and still no CK to fix all the things they failed to implement properly or at all.

High quality games? Skyrim - despite the let down, it still was a decent game, with major potential for the future, assuming the CK doesn't run into problems with the Steam Workshop implementation.

The Witcher 2 - not nearly as good as TW1 (personal opinion), but very well made and the story enticed me to keep playing through the end.

Grotesque Tactics 2: Dungeons & Donuts - hilarious game that got very little attention, the gameplay is decent and the characters are a riot.

Best improvement? Sword of the Stars II - this is something other developers should take a look at. Kerberos botched the release to the point the game was unplayable and incomplete, they and their publisher admitted the error, apologized publicly, and worked with Steam/Gamersgate/D2D/etc to get refunds (or at least store credit) to people who wanted it, offered the first game and all DLC free to those who stuck it out, then patched literally 2-3 times a week for over a month getting the game to not only a playable state, but to where it is really damn good.

Best game? Sengoku - Another overlooked title that came out in the shadow of the Total War series, made by the guys who brought us Europa Universalis, Hearts of Iron, Crusader Kings, and many other grand strategy games. This game did an excellent job of providing an experience including not just samurai battles, but actually running your Clan/House, dealing with politics, intrigue and backstabbing on the way to uniting Japan.

But that's just my opinion.

Very impressive, that must have been very expensive, patching like that, but still they did it-remarkeble commitment.

Best DLC? I'd say EVE Online(totaly new graphics system, retexture of more than 50% of assets, several ugly ships totaly re-made and beautified, several major new features) or Forza Motorsport(Humble car packs, but in terms of giving people what they want, there hasn't been one yet that wasn't jam packed with good, desirable cars)

Most underwhelming hype-magnet? SW: ToR. I'd been slowing falling-out with StarWars, but ToR pushed me well over of the edge, from loyal but disenfranchised fanboy, into full blown hater. Absolute failure, and another boring rehash of the same damn story, characters, places, and more. Star Wars games, to me, feel like like COD games only even more monotone-atleast COD has multiple settings(all of them bad, admitedly) Star Wars just uses the same damn planets over, and over, and over. The same damn people, factions, over and over and over, the saem damn concept, over, and over. Would it kill them just to come up with one new idea, one new faction, one new concept within the universe? I'm not talking about re-inventing the wheel here, I'm talking about a little expansion of the incredibly narrow horizon.

"Oh, hey, we want you to go to a planet and fight the sith, but because we're lucasarts, we won't create some imaginative new world, we'll just send you back to tatooine, again. You dumb fanboy types like tatooine, right? right?"

BEST

Skyrim - Game of the year, there are a lot of faults but it is also a lot of fun, addictive fun and with the CK coming out next months and so many modders around it can only get better

The Witcher 2 - Best RPG in the last couple of decades, don't like the "streamlining" for the consoles but i can look pass that because of the awesome environment, characters and story

Dawn of War 2 Retribution - Best RTS ever. no spawn this and win button, no stupid base building, just wish the crappy match making could be better

WORST

Dragon Age 2 - what's to say that hasn't been said already?

Dragon Age 2 - so bad it is on my list twice, it would be 3 times if not for...

SW: tOR - What Vindekarr said

I agree, base building doesn't really fit in with the WarHammer universe.

Just think about it: Tyranids deploy their beasts via mycetic spores from the hive fleet, no buildings. Space Marine battle doctorine calls for absolute mobility, as a result most simply deploy and return from orbit and only the Iron Warriors and Imperial Fists truly dug-in. Rarely build bases, never permanently. Eldar deploy from either the craftworlds, a wraithship, or other more mysterious locations, they refuse to live on planets, considering it primitive. Orkz build camps, but fight mobile and travel light, an ork camp is more a cluster of tents, billboards proclaiming WAAAGH!!! and other crude piles of sticks N leather. Necrons? they're buried under ground in catacombes, they don't build their base, it was built before the human race existed. Tau? see Space marines. Imperial guard? well maybe, some regiments anyway. But who builds a base DURING an orbital invasion? the Cadians here clearly have teleport and air links from their main base of operations to the Bastion, imply they have no need for a bigger base since by implication they have a huge one somewhere else, complete with airbase, motorpool, and barracks, while the shear number of army and navy Valkyries implies a ship as their boo.

Frankly it makes full lore and tactical sense to have them all deploy from orbit and use a makeshift FOB as their CP, even the Orkz launch their invasions from orbit via Rokz, unless they're Feral Boyz, and Bluddflag's Krew certainly aren't, being Freebootaz and having a Kill Krooza(albiet a smashed one, at the start of Retribution).

Skyrim - A masterful combination of the most detailed world I have ever seen and great gameplay and roleplaying mechanics. If you add a bit of imagination, you should prepare yourself for the most immersive roleplaying experience ever.

Better yet, with mods, I can alter the world and gameplay mechanics to be just like I want them to be. Definitely my GOTY, and probably my favorite game of all time.

Witcher 2 - I bought this one without knowing almost anything about it, it turned out to be one of the best RPG's I have ever played. The story is very well written and every action you do has consequences. The gameplay is quite good, though it's not really my type of combat. Besides that, the graphics are absolutely mind blowing. Another thing to note, the developers aren't shy to show nude people, not a lot of games dare to achieve this level of maturity. Witcher 2 really immersed me in the world with it's epic storytelling. I highly recommend it to anyone that likes RPG's or fantasy.

Honorable mentions:

Portal 2 - Very good, but it lost it's charm after you finish it. Replay value is one of the most important things for me, Portal 2 has almost none.

Minecraft - Good and very creative. But it could have been so much more. The updates were small, and didn't do the concept justice.

Dragon Age 2 - It's ok, the problem here is that most of the game is set in the same levels. And I don't like the flashy animations. Though it gets a + for allowing same sex relationships, Bioware did get a few bad comments about that. But they are being really mature for allowing such things, big thumbs up from me because of that.

Assassin's Creed Revelations - Good game, but too little has changed since AC2. The story is yet again on a giant cliffhanger.

Dead Island - Good concept, bad interpretation. It could have been a lot more. Though that was probably me expecting Fallout with zombies.

I don't have any bad games, and I have never played a game that I consider "bad". I see the world in shades of grey, with Skyrim being a brighter shade and DA2 being a darker shade.
