what is metal structure at the slog?

Howdy!

locally, some fans of FO4 are wondering what the metal structure nearest

the river between

the slog and parsons state insane asylum is -

the leading theory is "diving boards" or "embarking terminal for boats" -

if so...

then, where are the diving boards, and that looks like a steep drop into solid ground 200+years later...

many modders turn that into a punji-pit to have hancock make troublemakers 'walk the plank' into the punjipit

(using the MLNA asset from a homemaker mod).

if this structure is an embarkation terminal for a paddlesteamer or boat of some other kind,

then... why?

did it connect to the ocean at some point?

where is the paddlesteamer now?

-----

what do you think that tower structure at The Slog is?

what do you use it as in 2290s?

@vormina

excellent theory, thanks for sharing!

a driving range hehe,

golf-clubs are a downloadable mod weapon too.

or indeed, a shooting range/skeet range hehe

there could be a mod in there somewhere hehehe

that is, if 'the slog' is a raider settlement.

@Vormina

hahaha, that reminds me of several "j0n-xor draws" FO4 comics...

be careful moving or deleting that weird metal mess though,

it can cause cell issues, as Petard discovered

(he used snap and build etc, to make a perimeter catwalk around the slog).

personally?

It makes a great side-area to an elevator area,

especially if you build the mono-rail near the dinner out front.

you connect an arch-way over between that scaffold and the main building,

and build over the pool area a wooden sky-scraper (to shield the water purifier in the pool).

or, with ploppable houses, it looks like 'scaffolding' for repair to a house.

it is the EXACT same profile as the gap in the large house 2 'ploppable house'.

perfect to build then with SnapNBuild a bunker,

underwhich there is a 'any door anywhere' mod,

to make the Slog have some 'maintenance room'/plumbing'.

or, if you like those FO3 and FONV 'rocket spillway'/'carpark' look, that also. :smile:

@HandofBobb

haha yeah, it is funny to think of how long the diving board would have to be,

if it is a diving board area into the 'lake'.

why can I picture the pip-boy cartoon

bouncing on the wooden plank which break,

and swan diving into the concrete? :smile:

many make that 'dive' a punji-pit for some to dive into,

which would make for bizarre 'ambient script event'

(similar to the Red Rocket Waterfall/paddling pool and scripted water fountains,

or the 'jimmy fell..." mod for Hangman's alley)

that would be much more atmospheric than

P Garvey saying 'someone has been kidnap, again... to the same place by the same thing, again...

let me mark it on your map for you, again..." hehe.

maybe there is a dark-side to The Slog?

maybe it was raiders before the ghouls showed up?

I noticed this structure for the first time the other day. Diving boards and golf range are both possibilities. However, the positioning of the river is odd in both instances (assuming it hasn't changed over the past two centuries) - too far for diving and too close for golfing unless you intend to smack the balls into the water.

Looking around, I assume pre-War The Slog was some sort of small relaxation resort / private retreat - swimming pool, showers and toilets inside the building, etc. In which case, the structure you're talking about could be for sun loungers - there's umbrellas on the top level. Basically, it's a place where people would go to sunbathe, have a drink while they look out over the scenic river landscape, etc. Just a guess.
