I hate smithing and enchanting... but how do I get a decent weapon?

I too have been having issues with smithing and enchanting, and still trying to get the hang of it. I need to get about 20 more points in smithing to be able to get the right perks to improve enchanted weapons, but it is taking a long time. But I do have my dual Katana's and am having no issues with them as they seem to be quite deadly while dual wielding. I improved both to 'Fine' and enchanted one with a shock enchantment, but I would like to go further with them. One Katana is at 34 damage and the other is now at 28. Other then the giants, nothing seems to stand in my way, but then again...I really haven't had any luck bringing down a giant yet, even with my bow...LOL.

If you want to save time and perks you can do it like me.

Use player.setav enchanting/smiting #.

this way you can level up smiting and enchanting in an instant without having it affect your overall level. You also dont have to go trough the normal trouble to get ore/bars or items to disenchant and enchant to lvl up.

However, its no fun to be lvl 1 with 100 in smiting and enchanting. so if you can restrain yourself from getting 100 right away id suggest you do that.

add smiting and enchanting lvls a little by little as you level up, then use player.addperk # to get the perks.

to not ruin the whole game experience you shouldnt do this the first time or two you play trough the game, but if you dont feel up to spending an hour to get smiting lvl up then this is the easiest way.

best thing is to not concentrate on smithing and enchanting but consider them like any other skill in the game.

If you put too much emphasis on them, you will get overpowered pretty soon thus making the game to easy, if you completely ignore them as a Warrior type Character, you will find yourself dying a lot also ruining the experience. What worked for me this far, was to consider smithing and enchanting only when I had to and it made actual sense.

So dont "Cluster-Smith" Iron Daggers and dont Enchant 1% to Nothing just to get these super high levels quick, works with console better and faster anyway. Smith only when you have to smith and enchant only when you will actually use it. That way you will go more smoothly on the course of the game and find the game challenging but not impossible thus having much more fun.

When you have played a couple hundred hours and think you get bored than you can smith and enchant the bejesus out of Skyrim.

  • 2 weeks later...

If you are part of the college of winterhold and have at least 90 conjuration you can get enchanted daedric items relatively early on without crafting.

The atronach forge armed can make various daedric items with the proper recipe.

He said he didn't want to grind. Grinding conjuration to almost max level just to get Daedric items is just as bad as grinding smithing to get them.

I've decided to do some grinding. I used the mod to install enchanting table and smithing wheel in my Breezehome house. (I rationalize the cheat figuring an adventurer would be able to buy these anyhow, plus it's only a short walk to them in Whiterun, so I'm saving myself the walk). Now whenever I go home to dump loot, I spend some time enchanting all the crappy rings I found, and smithing daggers and such. It's a slower way to grind, but I guess it's a necessary evil, and I'm using honest loot instead of buying/selling exploit of grinding. (Just sucks that I only get an hour or so a day to play, so I don't like wasting time with grinding).

But damn, a level 27 adventurer should be able to deal a little more damage than a measly 33 with my Ebony sword. Grind away....
