MFFF 9.1[18]

Semivaults were melded, bolted, against the hull of the vault proper and double vaultlocks joined subvaults to semivaults. Semivaults were usually the same size as subvaults and of the same standardised design and layout. There had been no trouble in going through the double vaultlock but Metaguards were now stationed there.

The semivault was like a multiple purpose subvault, a kind of outstation to the main vault that could be quarantined off from it. They found there accommodation areas, offices, workshops, storerooms, commonrooms, utility areas and other spaces including those left spare for possible use.

The first Team5 moved quietly, methodically, carefully along a semivault hallway and then halted to find themselves facing a hastily put up barricade of almost anything strong, and bulky, that could be put into place. A smashed drop-down gun-turret hung wrongly from the ceiling.

The ugly glue substance had burned its way partly into a metal wall, and floor, at the meeting area of both; the smartmetal had resisted its effects and continued to self repair. A desiccated corpse, of a VaultTech Security Guard, lay where it had been dropped; metafolk psyked that the woman had been killed by having liquefied flesh, blood and life energies drained from her.

The alien substance seemed to have been there for a very long time as had the desiccated victim. It was long become brittle and was splintered in places. Samples were taken of what turned out to be a surprisingly strong substance while the body was left for others to examine except for small samples taken from it.

The Team5 entered a big chamber where there was a glistening, yellow speckled, green jelly like creature of multiple globes, stems and other shapes; it was spread across the space with great big round jelly capsules full of very slowly dissolving ESCFs (emergency survival concentrate foodbars) and other ration food stuff removed from their containers. There were also big cubeslabs of clonemeat of different kinds that were also being slowly eaten away. Clearly it was feeding very slowly off the food in the great round glistening globes. The newcomers were amazed that anything would, could, feed on ESCFs that had a certain infamy even amongst metafolk who had special adapted digestive systems.

MFFF 9.2[19]

The creature was scanned, sensor swept, and psyked to be in a very slowed down state of activity while it still remained alert to outsiders. Yet it did not react overtly to the metahumans but remained passive.

The metahumans psyked no threat, far from it, and neither did the metadogs; somehow they knew that the alien entity would not encapsulate them in the way it had done to others, unless they wanted it to be so, though they did not know why this was so. Was it their deeper, evolving, metanature at work?

It was becoming clear that the yellow speckled, green jelly, substance was very unlike the other burning, glue, like substance. The encapsulated bodies were thus different from the desiccated one, of the person, that had been so horrifically killed.

When the second Team5 came to the outer double vaultlock found it not only heavily code locked but held closed with a big slide bars.

It was the third Team5 that found the battle scene scattered with pulse burn marks largely faded thanks to the self repairing nature of smartmetal. Desiccated corpses littered the floor, being two men and a woman along with a security dog. Strange biometalic-biomechanical bits lay scattered near the distorted corpses being what looked like pieces of feet, tails and other hard to identify body parts; they might have been hivevaca spineloca except that they were too big to be so.

The very old fight scene was close to another blastdoor but this one was horizontally set into the floor, being able to open to an cylinder shaped elevator chamber that would come up out of the floor. Except it was heavily, cleverly, code locked.

The original, official, plans to TechVault619 were proving to be only fully accurate in some explored areas, partly accurate in others and totally inaccurate in more areas as the exploration efforts continued. The horizontal elevator blastdoor was not on any official plans.

MFFF 10.1[20]

The taskteam39 moved in a newly discovered area to rescue the four metabots, and the human dwarf. The area did not officially exist. The taskteam was made up of metahumans, metadogs, metaborgs, metadroids and metabots but it was backed up by vaulttrons, vaultbots of other kinds, and vaultdroids.

They found the power-door, that officially should not exist, and after some tough hacking work, moved along a hallway that did not officially exist. It went for some time, with out any interruption except for grid covered vent shafts in the walls and, once, in the ceiling. Then they came upon metal powerdoors, lightly armoured, on both sides.

The first door, to their right, was unlocked and revealed a large storeroom about two thirds full of items such as paint, sealant, paint stripper, tools, tape, handcarts and even some small electric carts.

The first door, to their left, was unlocked and showed a smashed up storeroom with broken open, flattened, otherwise damaged containers that had once held food rations and water rations. There clearly had been at least a couple of fast looting raids on the place.

The second door, to their right, was unlocked and was a storeroom filled with carefully preserved artworks of many different kinds. Nothing had been touched for such things had no high survival priority.

The second door, to their left, was also unlocked as a storeroom of special status-containers. The vintage wines had been looted a long time ago as had, according to labels, fine quality whiskey, cigars, biscuits, coffee beans, chocolates, pink salmon, braised ham and other luxuries. All were able to be used for survival, even if for morale boosting.

The third door, to their right, was another unlocked storeroom; it was full of furniture, fittings, utilities and general quality decorations along with such as propaganda posters. They they found the very long dead body of a woman, gripping a pulsepistol close to the remains of one hand; metafolk psyking backed up the fact that she had committed suicide. Next to the body was an untidy heap of empty whiskey, beer and vodka bottles so clearly it had taken drunk courage to get her to a state where she could kill herself.

MFFF 10.2[21]

The third door, to their left, was both unlocked and open to show a big storeroom that was totally empty and bare.

The fourth door, to their right, was melded and welded closed with extra armoured plating added over the door and the wall around it. Yet something had punched big bulges into it from the other side.

Psyking extreme danger, the taskteam39 marked the door but then moved onward.

The fourth door, to their left, was torn open and lying on its back. The interior, of the chamber, was littered with desiccated corpses, totally burned skeletal remains, skeletal remains in GuardTech underclothes meaning other items had been looted, and destroyed fighting robots. There were also broken, smashed, remains of hivevaca be they smaller ones like spineloca or bigger, unidentified, types. Bullet, burn, and other marks indicated a terrible battle had taken place there.

Mystery was why had the battle taken place so intensely inside the chamber and yet, just outside of it in the hallway, were no real signs of conflict at all.

The hallway ended in a 'T' junction with a bigger hallway going both ways at right angles to the one that the taskteam39 had been moving along. The metafolk were careful to check out both direction along that bigger hallway.

Then they heard the muffled gunfire coming from the left. They moved quickly, but not in a blind rush, until they came out at the edge of a very big domechamber. It was filled with an amazing array of stuff, a mixture of junk and maybe useful items. A minority of areas were crammed full of it and others were emptier, a minority being very empty.

In the center of the domechamber was a curious vertical metal loop arrangement made up of a combination of metals such as copper, steel and gold. Cables snaked in crazy patterns around it and the circle made odd crackling noises.

GuardTek type power armoured fighters were shooting big pulserifles at their enemies who seemed to be hunkered down behind a barricade of mixed machines, heavy metallic furnishings and much else. There was a shotgun blast and then a heavy machinegun opened up of an old fashioned kind for it used cased ammo.

MFFF 10.3[22]

Pellis44E23 commanded the taskteam39. “I want EMPguns used on those mercenaries, bringing them down quickly and peacefully. Then we take down the others. We can not afford to trust either side thanks to psyking that Crampon was not giving us the whole story.”

The moved quickly into firing formation, not forgetting to have a strong rearguard in place, and then fired the EMPguns. The power armoured figures dropped, none of them having the advanced antiEMPtech of the metafolk.

Metahumans, metaborgs and metadroids moved with amazing speed, agility and precision; the last was driven by the metamind. They fell upon the defenders, taking them from odd angles, striking them down with heavy stun pulses. Except not Crampon who was tied up to a pole in a small chamber. The five vaultbots were parked close to her, some of their items having been taken.

The human midget moved her body around, speaking with a tone of concern. “Those bandits are worse than the mercs. At least HawkEye controls his people to some extent. Brandina lets them largely do as they will as long as she gets the biggest chunk of any loot gained. Hawkeye's Ironsides are just one of the former GuardTek descendants based factions. Brandina's Smashbashers, the name suits them too well, are the descendants of petty criminals forced to work guarded hard labour in the vault. Neither faction should be in this part of TechVault619 because the Agreement619 was signed over 100 years ago dividing up the vault between factions.”

Soon after came another taskteam39 and, with it, a whole lot of vaultbots and vaultdroids. There were mostly carrierbots to pick up equipment-supplies along with other items. A guarded convoy, complete with prisoners, was soon travelling towards the Metacube.

MFFF 11.1[23]

A group of metafolk, mostly metahumans, were chosen to enter the big Game Domechamber. They had practised playing the GreatGame in the ultra virtual reality, UVR, realm that they had grown up in; the Homescape that they were remembering and preparing to visit again in groups.

It was not going to be easy for the chosen few Players to think on their feet, as much as they had to, but the first session would be easier than some to come and also of different nature; the first session was of the Gametriwheel.

Gaming sessions were chosen by their actions but only some of those were conscious. The way that they went was not straight forward either. Though their were regular sessions there were also other kinds that would be gained.

The GreatGame, or Mazagame, was far from being straight forward; it was an intricate thing flowing through their lives, actions and which was both part of their lives and outside of it. There were mysterious arbiters of the game known as the Mazagamelords but the metafolk knew little of them except that they served the even more mysterious Mazaamegods.

Sonya01A01 attended the first gaming wheel session at the new Gametriwheel Chamber, a great domechamber with at its center a great horizontal three wheel arrangement; it was pyramidic with each higher disk being also smaller. It was in the biggest of the Metacube Metachambers being divided into many levels, chambers and other lesser spaces.

The 32x32x16 metric domechamber was actually a 32x32x32 bubblechamber with the lower half full of a single supersolidstate mechanism far beyond the comprehension of the metafolk. Other such bubblechamber-domechambers had started to emerge as linked to the cubechambers.

Metamind: “The total treasury balance was recently valued at Gamecredit of 2,353 plus Tradecredit of 23,530 plus Giftcredit of 121 plus Metacredit of 235 plus four Chosen Giftings, four Random Giftings, four Surprise Giftings, one Exotic Gifting. Only the one Metapoint had been used.”

Metamind: “Gained additions, since then, are valued at Gamecredit of 5,264 plus Tradecredit of 52,640 plus Giftcredit of 201 plus Metacredit of 526 plus five Chosen Giftings, five Random Giftings, five Surprise Giftings, one Exotic Gifting. Also gained are two Metapoints and one Chancepoint.”

Metamind: “The new treasury balance is now valued at two Metapoints, one Chancepoint, 7,617 Gamecredit, 76,170 Tradecredit, 762 Metacredit, Giftcredit 322, nine Chosen Giftings, nine Random Giftings, nine Surprise Giftings, two Exotic Giftings.”

Sonya01A01 calmly spoke as she focused, in her mind, on Gametriwheel rules fed to her and other metafolk. “Spend one Metapoint on the expansion, enhancement, other development and enhancement of the Metacube. A gamble, yes, but one worth taking.”

Arant89G22 was also recognised to make decisions for-through the metamind. He spoke and also chose his words with care. “Spend 500 Metacredit boosting the effects of the spent Metapoint.”

A sparkling shimmer seemed to go through everybody and everything.

Metamind: “Two Chosen Giftings, nine Random Giftings, nine Surprise Giftings and one Exotic Gifting are spent. You must now choose your two Chosen Giftings and use a Gametriwheel randomiser to select your two Random Giftings. At this moment the Random Gifting Menu has on it six possibilities. The two Surprise Giftings will, of course, come as a surprise and the one Exotic Gifting will be granted in an 'exotic' fashion. This gaming session is declared to be over.”

Sonya01A01 used the Gametriwheel randomiser to pick the two Random Giftings.

The options were 01: a multiple purpose 64x64x64 Cubechamber, 02: a manufacturing maintenance 64x64x64 Cubechamber, 03: a medical biotech 64x64x64 Cubechamber, 04: a research development archives 64x64x64 Cubechamber, 05: a general special storage 64x64x64 Cubechamber and a 06: rest recreation restoration 64x64x64 Cubechamber.

The Metacube obtained both a medical biotech and a research development archives 64x64x64 Cubechamber but it would take some time before they were available for use by the metafolk.
