MFFF 16.1[31]

The domechamber was much the same as it had been back when Karon Crampin had been saved. Except, that is, some big items had clearly been taken and careful checking showed that the same was true of many smaller items. The loop based transdimensional gate was still there and was semiactive; perhaps those who had taken stuff had considered it too dangerous too touch.

A previously secret door was not only revealed but was still open because it had been blasted down. Crampin studied the big fallen armoured door, the now exposed big hallway stretching out from it and she spoke. “The Survivors619 has always suspected that secret doors, even big ones like that one, existed. Then we found just a couple but none led to any great discoveries though two of them had a fair amount of useful, semiuseful, resources.”

The genmidget indicated a large armoured grid cover to a large vent-shaft. “That leads to a network of chambers and hallways; that in turn leads to the big damaged subvault that we Survivors619 call our home. We call it PanAmerica619 just because the vault is situated in part of the old United States of PanAmerica known as Oklahoma being not far from OklahomaCity.”

Terri76H21 responded, as she looked along the big hallway and noted big metal powerdoors being on either side. In the distance the hallway ended at a wall except that Terri76H21 somehow got the strong impression that it was a Tjunction. “After we have further examined the domechamber, we will move along that hallway.”

Crampin frowned. “Is that really wise?”

The metahuman turned to frown softly at Crampin. “Tell me more about the Survivors617. Is the group made up of only those from this dimensional realm, from this alternate?”

The genmidget frowned softly. “Yes, while there are humans, animans, androids, cyborgs and robots from this world, well there those from elsewhere.”

Terri76H21 turned to look directly through the vertical loop's semitransparent shimmering curtain. “Did some of them come through there from that alien landscape shown there?”

Crampin snorted softly. “That alien landscape is inside of a partly destroyed, very alien kind of, 'quasiliving vault' called a Hivequato. It is made up of manipulated growths of silicon based quasiliving quasilifeforms and their secretions, being the Webquato that networks the Massquato. It is a very different kind of technology from our own or from that of other alternative Earths that entities have come from.”

Crampin frowned. “Hivevaca are linked to the central high ruling Hashiquato and base themselves in Hivequatoes. After a powerful enemy attacked their Hivequato where they were sheltering after their own version of Doomsdays, they sent a large force after that entity-entities that came through this very gateway, along with others though we do not know how many.”

Crampin: “This is but a basic small transdimensional gate activated to try to control what was happening with transdimensional distortions. The MadAnnes think that what took place here helped trigger the Doomsdays not just on this world but on others. The MadAnnes are supergenius professors who are part of the Survivors619 and are one of the main reasons we survived.”

Crampin: “There are also the manquatoes, vaguely human like quato-entities whose ancestors broke free from slavery to the Hivequato. Some managed to get through the gateway to join the Survivors617. There are also quadiquatoes, slivequatoes, hexiquatoes and stompiquatoes that also serve the Hivevaca.”

Crampin shrugged. “From yet another world came the Jollyjelly entity-entities, for it really is one that is many that are one as you omnifolk are. Or so I get the sense from observing your body language and other aspects of how you act together.”

Crampin: “Unfortunately something else came from the same world, something that feeds both on carbon based lifeforms and silicon based quasilifeforms; the former become desiccated corpses and the latter shatter remnants, when fed upon. We call it the Raveningblob. The Raveningblob keeps away from the Jollyjelly as if fearing it in its own alien fashion.”

They saw it coming moving across the far hallway, across the Tjunction, a purple tinged black jelly like blob like creature. Just as there was something peacefully unthreatening about Jollyjelly, there was something disturbingly threatening about the Raveningblob. It turned out to be but one aspect of that entity-entities.

Crampin: “It is always hungry but sometimes it gets down right ravenous, hence part of its name.”

If the Raveningblob detected those in the domechamber it gave no visible sign of it but soon vanished out of sight as it continued along the big, mostly unseen, hallway.

Terri76H21: “What was the threat that came through the gateway, the one that attacked the quasiliving Hivequato?”

Crampin had an odd, troubled, look on her face for just a couple of seconds before she gave a just as odd smile. “What does it matter; there are more important...”

Another metahuman shot her with a heavy stun pulse. Crampin should have dropped but only went part way down. Then she was shot again only to be caught, as she fell, by a very fast moving metaborg.

With some difficulty they carefully examined the moderately small biometalic-biomechanical thing that lay beneath the skin and between the genmidget's shoulder blades; it was a flattened triangular creature with a long tail going down over the backbone. Thin tentacles went into the spinal chord or trailed up it to go into the brain itself. The examination was done with new devices designed for the task since the first time they had sensorscanned Crampin the results were strange but indecisive; the new quasilife sensoscanner did a good job on tracing the intrusive entity and would lead to the development of even better tech to do the same job.

A field-scientist, speciality xenobiology, spoke. “I would say that this silicon based quasilifeform would have had difficulty trying to control any kind of carbon based lifeform. Crampin, in her own fashion, was most liking fighting its control or at least what ever was trying to control Crampin through this entity. If the great threat, that destroyed much of a Hivequato, came from the same world perhaps that explains the nature of that threat; perhaps it is also of biometalic-biomechanical quasiliving nature.”

They returned to Metavault619 and the Metacube but only after taking more data recordings of the domechamber. On the way they also took up some salvaged items to take with them, assisting in the process of reclamation.

MFFF 17.1[34]

The conflict was on-off, raging brutally one moment and then all still the next as forces regrouped, reloaded and causalities were replaced. What had once been a thriving rural town was little more than rubble, wrecks of machines and overgrown, decaying roads.

Special Paladin ranked pilots, in power armour, piloted big hulking four legged Paladinmecha (Paladin battlemecha) firing 40mm autocannons or javelin missile launchers or 40zz laserguns and always 12.7mm calibre heavy machineguns.

Vipers were hurled back, a very few of them being in basic power armour but others in FBBA (full body body-armour). All of their armour was lavishly, nastily painted and adorned with savage tribal colours, symbols and other markings. Vipers were mostly armed with varied smoothbore pipeguns firing specialised pipegun ammo of 5mm, 10mm and even 15mm calibre cased cartridges

Larger numbers of Knight rank piloted Knight battlemecha, two legged and less hulking, fired powerful weapons but ones not as big or as powerful as those with the Paladins.

For all of that there were but eight knightmecha and four paladinmecha. Mainly light power armoured Steeltroopers fought swarms of drugged upped Vipers as landmines ripped apart a few more of the frenzied attackers.

Knightmecha battlemecha moved in two flexible combat formations of four machines while the Paladinmecha stomped along as two formations each of three machines. With the formations moved sentryrobots guided by those in the battlemecha.

There were a fair few standard power armoured Steeltroopers and even fewer heavy power armoured ones, the heavy power infantry being only a dozen in number, that is the same number as there were of battlemecha one the battlefield.

Steelsage Yanrind was grateful not to be wearing clumsy Steelsage robes out there but to be given light power armour. She crouched in a disguised bunker, made to look like a heap of rubble, examining Viper blood samples with a scanmicroscope. She spoke, even as she did so, to a young woman Sandra Lyons, who would one day be the mother of the famed Owen Lyons. “Clones, the Vipers are easy enough detectable as mass produced, short lived, unstable vatclones. It not just the drugs driving them berserker mad but physical pain and mental instability.”

Sentinel Sandra Lyons frowned, crouching not so comfortably in her standard power armour. “Question is, why bother?”

Yanrid shrugged. “Perhaps this is all they could manage to create. Much was lost of technologies, and scientific knowledge, both during and just after the Doomsdays.”

Sandra frowned softly. “I have a strong-subtle 'sense' that there is more to it than that.”

Yanrid cursed and then explained her reaction. “It appears to be a subspecies of the FEI (Forced Evolutionary Infestation). Yes, there is also a subspecies of the FEB (Forced Evolutionary Bacteria) and the FEV (Forced Evolutionary Virus). As far as I know the three cooperative microscopic species are of types unknown to the SteelBrotherhood or any of those we exchange knowledge with.”

When they two deformed Vipers appeared, they did so with a shocking appearance of distorted Vipers. They came on as hulking, like supermutants, but even uglier than those. Their muscular bodies were covered with thickened human skin dotted with webworks of exposed dull dark lines. There was no armour at all except for a few pieces.

Yanrid cursed yet again. “So, that just might explain the difference between the unknown kinds of FEM (Forced Evolutionary Microlife) and the known ones; aggression, over excitement, rage and related emotions might trigger further changes in the bodies infected-infested with the mysterious FEM.”

Then came another of the deformed with one arm ending not in a hand but in three dangerous tentacles tentacles that started about half way along the forearm. The deformed cloned Vipers kept on coming but not as a horde and soon there were just the one swarm of about twenty of them.

Even as Steeltroopers began to take them on, rocketgrenades struck them from another direction; the real Vipers had appeared on the scene, seeking vengeance against the fake Vipers that had attacked them and who pretended to be them. Now in changed colours, and in adapted firefighter power armour, they kept up a barrage of the rocketgrenades. Along with that they fired heavy machineguns adapted to be used with power armour. More Vipers appeared in former US Nationalguard Landguard power armour.

Taken by surprise, the fake Vipers retreated except for the distorted clones that fell beneath a terrible firepower of weaponry; that is from both the real Vipers and the Steeltroopers.

Sentinel Sandra Lyons formed a temporary alliance with the Vipers, a wary one reluctantly made but necessary. As a 'Sentinel', a rarely given special rank, she could make such decisions with out consulting the SteelElders. It was only a temporary one that had to be ratified by the SteelElders but she could see no reason for resistance against the idea.

ViperJaro crouched in his Nationalguard power armour. “They came out of the ground, or so our scouts explained. They attacked us and then you. We are not a stupid people; we are not as drugged up crazy as most assume; we would not take on the Brotherhood of Steel for you outdo us in tech, training and numbers.”

Sandra responded, also crouched on the ground in power armour. “If you fight, alongside us in separate units, we upgrade your tech, you give equipment-supplies but mostly supplies, train you up and upgrade some old bunkers for you. You take our commands and we treat you with respect, not using you as cannon fodder or giving you third class resources.”

ViperJaro frowned. “We have to deal with second class resources!?”

The Sentinel nodded. “Just as the SteelBrotherhood has to while, as you know, most in the Wastelands mostly have third class resources and are lucky to get second class ones. You have information, that we do not have, and that is the most valuable resource you can give us. There are things that you would not discuss with outsiders but this is the norm with all factions.”

MFFF 18.1[37]

A used Surprise Gifting had created more security defensive network-systems for the Metavault, had walled off areas compromised by unofficial access ways to ResdevVault619 and other places. Walled off, that is, with the addition of new vaultlocks. Also added were turrets, rail-turrets, concealed escape chambers, hidden emergency equipment-supplies lockers, heavy security robots, heavier defence robots, sensors, scanners, pressure plates and more.

The used Exotic Gifting brought forth a very special new 94x94x94 metric Cubechamber 'inside' the Metacube. Special capsule slots were open to take the special metafolk statuscapsules. When placed into the slots, after other actions were carried out, inside those statuscapsules began to emerge more metafolk. They did so fairly slowly and very steadily.

With wonder Sonya01A01 examined neat horizontal rows of statuscapsules, that were also in vertical columns, and the small figures of different metatypes already starting to show.

They were cloning statuscapsules that cloned grew and then healed-stabilised during a special status based process. They only did all of this while in special cloning statuscapsule slots that were part of special cloning status machines.

In the past few days the metafolk had withdrawn all outside activity, that is outside of the Metacube-Metavault, while doing heavy security sweeps of the Metavault. All metafolk were examined for the parasitic biometalic-biomechanical parasitic control creatures. Except examinations soon revealed that the entity, still healthily quasiliving, was designed for helpful reasons to assist bigger biometalic-biomechanical entities in various ways. It had been crudely altered to enslave victims.

Sonya01A01 turned to face an attractive brunette woman, shorter than any of the metahuman women or men, walking towards her in an altered vaultsuit. The woman was one Dana Scullie of the Predoomsdays XFiles Section of the OPRD (Organisation of Paranormal Research and Defence). The XFO was the office dealing directly with the very large XFiles Archives gained from the former XFiles Office of the FBSI (Federal Bureau of Special Investigations); the FBSI had expelled the XFiles people for dubious official reasons but very believable political ones.

Now the OPRD was becoming reactive in the Metacube as figures emerged from the statusjelly capsules that were being found in more places. The Metavault appeared to hold far more secret places than had previously been expected. In them had been found, so far, over 200 more statusjelly capsule encased humans, animals, plants and other things. Often such were being found in semivaults as linked directly to the thick hull of the TechVault proper.

It turned out that the OPRD people had come from another Alternative Earth only to join a rebel group of VaultTech people who had turned against the madness that was happening under the control of those known as the 13Gen13.

Scullie had her OPRD jumpsuit unzipped enough to show a fair amount of cleavage, which Sonya01A01 found odd. She spoke in Esperanto, the Predoomsdays international language. “Are you hot? Your zipper is undone!”

Scullie smiled. “I like it this way. We, of the OPRD, have much to thank you for; you have been very generous despite your statements of it all being for self centred reasons.”

Sonya01A01 shrugged just a little. “You did not come here to give me compliments, Investigator Scullie!”

Scullie nodded. “So be it, let's get to the point. I know that it is only fair that you security monitor us but you promised to leave us some privacy. Yet we found this in one hidden in one of our women's bathrooms.”

She passed to the metahuman a very small compact camera with transmitter. Sonya01A01 shook her head. “Firstly, we keep our promises; secondly, this is not the kind of good quality hitech we would use; thirdly, this is the type of gear anybody might put together who has the right skills, experience, and resources. It is a patchwork device made up of scavenged bit and pieces such as a robotic eye-camera. Perhaps it was done for reasons of voyeurism.”

“Nor has it worked properly because any transmissions of data would have been picked up by our security network-systems. I suggest that one of your people might be behind this because our metafolk would bother to do so; we often share mixed gender shower chambers, pools and other facilities but even if we did not our metamind would stop us from doing something so foolishly intrusive. I take it that it was found in one of your subvault's own kind of smaller bathrooms.”

MFFF 18.3[39]

“In the one used by Muldor, and myself, as a married couple.” She frowned. “It could have been one of us who did this, who was saved from the AzaShadow by both Hunterblob and Jollyjelly. Jollyjelly removed our infestations of the puppetquato crudely converted from helpquato; it even saved many of them.”

Renamed Hunterblob turned not a villain but was seeking to devour the infested-infected. When they are too far gone, could not be saved, the devoured them. They suffered no pain.

There was the Raveningblob, the true one, but it was a slavish minion of the AzaShadow. The AzaShadow took elements from lifeforms and tried to turn them into shadowpawns to serve it. It also had more powerful, fanatical, Shadowfollowers. So far its experiments with biometallic-biomechanical entities had not been greatly successful; it was seemingly more used to dealing with carbon based lifeforms rather than silicon based quasilifeforms.

Jollyjelly, and Hunterblob, were now based in the Metacube in their own 18x18x18 metric Cubechamber where they blended at the edges. Both adored ESCFs (emergency survival concentrate foodbars), NukaCola, clonemeat, faeces, baked beans, urine, MREs (meals ready to eat), diesel, sandstone and a wide selection of other things. From different substances they thrived and also produced interesting side products and focused products. The metafolk were utilising those products and so a trade was taking place.

Scullie, like many other OPRD people, had a helpquato melded into her upper back. The helpquato were not hidden under the skin. They assisted their hosts in many ways and protected them from puppetquato; in turn the helpquato gained much from the hosts. The helpquato had been once puppetquato for they had been cleansed of the AzaShadow's influence just as had their hosts.

It was then that the alarms began to sound. Metavault619 was under attack!
