game freezes when changing gender start of game

i've seen others with this problem but they get full ctd where as i don't get that

 

my problem is i'm starting a new game, i get all the way to the "who are you" bit and whilst in the menu i can select which ever race i want (I've tried them all) but as soon as i go to change gender the game freezes, if i wait which after the first few test i didn't the game comes back with no change made try again same thing. I have only tried the gender and nothing else.

 

any help would be most appreciated

Does the game ever un-freeze after you change genders? If so - the reason why that happens is because of hair mods. The more hair mods you have loaded at once will slow down the RaceMenu. My game does the same thing, and there isn't anything that can be done about it until SKSE64 is released. If it freezes and then crashes - I'm not sure what could cause that. Something modifying female races could be conflicting with another mod if that is what is happening.

as I say it freeze then un freezes after doing precisely nothing that you've asked, I'll look into the hair thing, I'll also see if its just the initial race menu not the console command initiated one to see if it has anything to do with scripted stuff. seems odd it would be the hair as skyrim le has no problem

so the fix

 

REMOVE ALL ADD ONS To the racemenu anything that would be attached to the sliders eyes hair lips tats etc (excluding body texture replacers like cbbe)

 

the above suggest just hair i took it a step further for failsafe looks like the script extender is needed for mods related to racemenu but for now unlike skyrim it don't exist

I'm currently having this issue, but with the most recent version of SKSE64 up and running.

Its been quite a while since I modded SSE but my old dog of a PC has the same issues. All I could do was wait it out. Create the toon an go play. It did unfreeze itself after a moment or so. It was very frustrating. I have more RAM, a new SSD and a GTX 1060 6gb now along with a fresh install of Windows 10 so im hoping when i start modding SSE it wont rear its ugly head again. I do have a weak CPU though.

If I'm remembering correctly it started after I'd added a few mods I just used to live with it. The game un freezes and you can carry on.

I just started playing my SE version with mods a few weeks ago, so everything "should" be matching up, version wise, & this happens to me too. I'm using racemenu & found clicking onto one of the other tabs, back to race for example, forces it to unfreeze.

After a weekend of modding SSE with Vortex i still have the issue to a much lesser extent the pause/freeze is a matter of seconds rather than the almost 2 years it used to seem like. The mods have become more refined for SSE since release. Everything runs much more efficent. Vram seems to be a biggie though. My 1060 has 6GB, my old AMD R7 370 had 2GB. In fact after stress testing my load order with afterburner running, I'm surprised I ever got past loading screen its regularly popping up over 4GB.
