Pronam
As bben said, there is a search method to find the files that might better suit to you and to which you can contribute. 11% of the skyrim files are currently savegames, it can't be that bad can it. That means 89 % is just perfectly fine. At tesnexus the ratio 5%, at fallout 3 2%, NV 1,3%.There are only about 600 savegames at the moment. There are currently 5,700 skyrim files without any official mod tools. There are almost 30,000 images. That clearly shows there's a good reason to separate images from the files, not a reason to split savegames from the files. No doubt the amount of savegames will decline to around 5% once modding really starts off and probably will probably even move to less. In all essence, it is a file upload site dedicated to files related to the games. Without the mod tools the only files you can create with the game itself are savegames. You might not qualify that as an asset to yourself. But whenever I mod I like to see whatever people are using for mods, install them and all their crazy other mods, then test out what I have to see if people with a crazy amount of mods can play anything I made as well. A load of people manage to recreate celebrities or just generally good looking faces with the character generator. It is easy to spend half an hour/hour into the generator to customise your character. It is easier to create something else in less time. In the future people will release updated versions of the 3rd party tools to import those faces into .esp files. Which means if I see a nice face, I could use it in one of my mods. Files are just pieces of art or creativity in their own form, a load of files doesn't suit to the needs of one. Making it a 'ghetto' just sounds you want something pushed off the area just because you don't like them. People inside a ghetto rarely use that word to describe their own area unless they are mocking it, which makes it just a thing some people don't like. Use the search tool to find the files that you do like. There is a simple motto here concerning filetypes people don't like: If you don't like it, move on. What I am saying is that SGs are as fundamentally different from mods as images are and would we would benefit from a similar separation.
buddah
The sites are for files and not just mods. This is the way it always has been since I joined 7 years ago and the way the site was designed following the vision of Dark0ne. We have things that most use that are not mods, skse, script dragon, bsa browsers, mod and save game managers alongside many other utilities. We even have fiction writers with have put their works uploaded and in game. Not to mention, music, texture replacers etc, which by you logic are not mods either as they do not have an exp file and do not modify the game only enhance and alter its ambiance and atmosphere. It might be a little cumbersome and cluttered but it functions as it was intended.
Dark0ne
I do like the idea of separating the save games from the files, however it would be a big undertaking and not something I'd put ahead of some other much needed features right now. I think a specialised saved game/character downloading area where you could see more details about the character, what it looks likes, the mods needed, what level it is, if it's in a special location and so on and so forth would be cool. It could be made to have a year book/face book (the original meaning for face book, not the site!) type feel to it. Food for thought, for a later date. The tag filter options could be changed in such a way that they are moved into the Member's personal Settings, and converted into a block filter. In that way, a member could permanently block files marked with any combination of tags (e.g. if you don't want to see any of those so called realistic mods or anime mods or graphical enhancement mods, you could just tick those tag boxes, and the file listing would filter them out, provided that they are properly tagged by their authors). However, I realize that it would increase the load on the database server (due to more complex queries) so I'm not very hopeful about this proposal, but who knows. Fonger
a micro nexus exclusively for game saves --- allowing unique search functions would actually be a good idea. ** finished main quest** uses DLC02** male/female/other** specific race** Chuck Norris?? ... McclaudEagle
As such a thing would likely require some form of tagging in order to get it to work, I doubt this would get very far as the current tag system is barely used anyway. Only way I can see it working is if there was a mandatory box to check which would automatically withdraw the file from the Latest Files list. To give you an idea on how some save-games can be useful, my Advanced Start save-game is my second most popular mod, and has thousands of downloads. I agree that some are more useful than others, but there are many save files uploaded that have a specific intention, and that's to give someone who can't create good characters the ability to get one. As for considering them to be mods, I agree, they're not mods. Mod is short for modification, as a save-game file is not modifying the game, it can't be considered a mod. myrmaad
@neglected Tag System : Group Hug!! http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c117/SeaBlossom/icons/grouphug.gif The tag system needs more love. We need to have some sort tag rewards program. I'm still hoping to get a boolean tag search function. That would be helpful.
