  1. 1. How has 1.4 affected you Mr. Dovahkiin?

    • Quite swimmingly to be frank.
    • Why, I see no difference, my good man.
    • Alas, I am in a world of pain.

The latest update did play havoc in my game as well. I don't have a lot of mods running, but did have some utilities (SKSE, SkyBoost, SkyUI, etc.) loaded. Saw another thread on this and someone suggested that a complete delete and reinstall is likely required based upon changes done by users tweaking their systems, etc.

Deleted everything, cleared the HDD of useless stuff, defragged, updated some drivers and reinstalled. Game plays smooth as silk now and have not had as much as a stutter in the game let alone a CTD or a broken quest.

Was it a pain? Yes.

Took a good part of the day to do as well.

But I got a less buggy, smoothly running game out of the effort.

The fact is most mods made for previous game's versions did not work with the new patch, and the savegame itself may be compromised, that is the main cause of all these despair threads about crashing with 1.4

Well, I had 2 CTD's in 2 hours, but the performance is a bit better. Before the patch I got just about, 4 in 150 hours.

After the patch downloaded I did a clean install of Skyrim, re-installed a few mods (SkyUI, Better Magic, Deadly Dragons, texture mods (No major ones), and some minor ones like Slower running etc) and re-did some .ini tweaks.

Well, I think it had something to do with me enabling/disabling some mods accidentally, the NMM somehow unchecked all the .esp files after my first 30 min play session.

I'll try it again and see if it's better now, started a new game yet again just in case.

EDIT:

Another CTD, and I've been playing for less then an hour. Yes, there's definitely something wrong here.

Though these CTD's are not heaving any error messages, it's just Skyrim closing itself instantly. No freeze or any stutter before it does.

I think it's what nosisab said, the mods are incompatible with the new patch. Either that, or the patch is bad.

Either way, I can't play like that. I have the constant fear that it will crash and I just can't enjoy the game like that. I'll just remove all the mods and hope for the best.

I would just like to say, I was using the beta patches and my game was fine. BUT, after updating to the latest beta, I had to update SKSE with it's own beta patch. After that, skyrim was unplayable. I hour max before I would CTD. Sometimes it was five mins, sometimes it was exiting through a certain door.

BUT (again) after updating to the latest SKSE, which isn't a beta, my game has worked perfectly. Just played for about 5 hours straight, messing around with lots of loot chests, dressing mannequins, and completing the game with no CTDs. I even have the new version of script dragon, loads of mods, about 80% up-to-date, and thus have little to no problems.

ERGO, I would highly suggest that people check their mods are updated (texture replacers for armour should be fine imo whatever the version, it's the big stuff like Deadly Dragons and such that need to be checked), and make sure they have the latest version of SKSE as I am pretty sure that was the cause of most of my CTDs.

Thanks for pointing that out.

I just checked, and I was one version behind on SKSE. I had the _09 version (Which is Beta, like you said), the new one is _10.

Your crashes seem to be just like mine, so I'm assuming that the new version of SKSE and updating the major mods works.

Kudos to you, without you I'd probably still be searching around and wondering what's causing the problems.

Skyboost.

That was my whole problem during the 1.4 patch beta. Since it doesn't appear in NMM's mod list, I'd forgotten it was there and hadn't disabled it. Preparing for the official 1.4 patch, I looked closer and realized that it is, of course, totally dependent on the version of the TESV.exe. I removed it and disabled every other mod before installing the patch. Once patched, I added back every single mod except Skyboost and things have been working great ever since (I did find a belted tunic floating in the air over a road today though but no CTDs). The author of Skyboost is working on a 1.4 compatible release (http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=6058).
