Videos of the Wasteland gone

It would appear that sadly, all of Razorwire's mods (including Videos of the Wasteland) have been removed from the Nexus database, as well as from Bethesda.net (for both pc and Xbone)

His youtube channel is also now closed. I can only guess that this has happened in the last several days.

Whilst this is unfortunate news & whatever his reasons for doing so, I'd just like to wish him the best, and thank him for his contribution to the modding community.

Thank you Razorwire

I had a feeling that this might happen. He did say he was moving on to bigger and better things in a sticky several months back. A few weeks ago I noticed that a lot of bug reports had built up for VotW that hadn't been responded to (mostly users who'd incorrectly installed the mod & those complaining about something that wasn't the fault of the mod itself, but was a server error of Nexus not allowing them to download it. Felt compelled to correct them all) and that his youtube channel hadn't had any new content for several months.

Unfortunately, new users who want to try mods which are dependant on VotW are now outta luck.

I've still got a w-i-p mod that would have added a ridiculous amount of content to VotW, not sure if I should finish it now.

I was subscribed to his YouTube channel and hadn't noticed is was gone until prompted to check after seeing a Reddit post a few days back about VotW being MIA. He did post a video at the end of last year saying he was pulling back from mod and video creation to focus on some real life stuff.

Hope he's doing well whatever the reason. His Nifskope tutorials were great.

@AGreatWeight,

if you get permissions from razorwire for VotW to use it as a 'community resource',

then, it can live on.

Otherwise, it has to fade away

its always unfortunate when modders feel they have to move on,

I would like to learn more from razorwire re the nature of the leave;

was it of razorwires own volition or a suggestion, some confluence of factors?

VotW was an awesome framework,

it let you play animations on a loop relatively simply in Books,

or have damaged fragmentary vids as quest collectibles (yodelling etc).

If not, there's always an opportunity to make a drag-n-drop decal animation player etc,

something that isn't as complex as the holotape system,

possibly standalone hehe.

I'd be keen to see your approach to vid and animation playing in FO4.

It would be a shame to lose all that progress, surely there must be a way an homage

to VotW could happen

Agreed, his tutorials were a real help.

It's difficult to even ask for permissions when it appears that he's removed all avenues of contact. I didn't have his personal email, and his Nexus account has vanished so it's a bit of a dead end unfortunately.

VotW and the previous incarnation (TV comes to the Wasteland for New Vegas) were excellent frameworks indeed. It might be possible to reverse engineer them by studying the behaviour files but personally I don't have the time for that at the moment. Perhaps another modder will step up?

Yeah, my WIP has 6.44gb of textures atm, and I've still got 57.3gb of footage to edit & convert  insert maniacal laughter!

edit:spelling + a correction.

Yeah it is sad to see things like these gone. This mod was low on my priority so I didn't install it yet. Now, I hope I did download a copy.

There are a few mods I have that were literately gone from internet. It is sad. So I kinda hang onto them. Either I am good enough to look into the esp and fix whatever needed to make sure it is up to date in my game, or simply use if the mod doesn't pose any threat. One of my favorite mod is a companion collection from Ewoleth. It's nothing fancy. It doesn't have a good way to recruit them beside console command, and they don't really talk. But I like the mod so much because it is simple (no complex script) and a way to have an extra gun/pack mule that I can play dress up and also change in Looksmenu to look like anyone I have on presets. And it doesn't count toward companion slot because it's not a real companion.

Looks like I better start downloading mods I want. Diskspace is cheap.

I know it is against the rules to re-upload mods. But can we do it in private? It's not like it is legally forbidden to use a mod once the author takes down from download site.

If things go well and I figure out all needed info, I'll have a prototype of this running at some point in the future. Got the TV model I want to play it on, just need to figure out the texture/materials and animations, and then.. hope the render doesn't take 100 years.

I read about this as well. 1 year ago I was reading into how to create playable video and it turned out to be very backward how Bethesda designed the TV system. They probably didn't plan on the TV was running after the very initial scene in game. And several early modders complained how much of a lost cause/cumbersome it was, for a rather novelty gain.

But since you figure things out, and maybe with the remaining codes from previous mod, I can't wait to see what you can do. I hope you can create a rather simply method for people to input in their own video (whatever they want). Folks at loverslab already have a field day with all the porn, but for most players, we always want something else.

I wish you well on your endeavors to get this working Ethreon, and look forward to seeing the results.

Your free to do that if you know someone willing to share it. Personally, simply out of respect for the mod author I won't share content that they've chosen to remove.

At the moment, there is no method to allow video playing on the TV's in Fallout4 other than how Razorwire implimented it via the .DDS 'flipbook' way. There are those looking into the possibility of injecting flash files & other ways, but I heard that six months ago & since then there's been no mention of it. I've come across numerous users asking for a way to merely 'drop' any video content into the game; whilst that might be convenient, it kind of circumvents the need to learn how to actually do it yourself, which is the way for a user to become a modder themselves and to learn how the game works 'under the hood'.

I can see the appeal though, but in all honesty I'm glad that it doesn't exist as that meant that I had to learn how to do it... but that's just me.
