Dubnoman
I install the latest AMD drivers and then remembered that I had to uninstall the old GPU drivers first. I went to double check and sure enough I was supposed to uninstall old drivers first. So, is this really harmful to my computer? Or can I fix this issue pretty easily? What do I do from here? Do I simply go and uninstall the drivers and then reinstall the latest drivers and that will work things out? I'm a bit worried this problem won't be real easy to fix. : -\ I'm kind of new to PC gaming and before getting this PC I have now, on my old PC I never updated GPU drivers (I didn't game on it). nosisab
No, not harmful to your computer, the real problem is the former driver can still have something hanging around and which "may cause" instability, anyway, just uninstall the driver and install it again, Search the net for a program called "deep care" which has a limited free version which allow uninstalling and checking for loose files and register entries. It should grant complete uninstall of the drivers and allow clean new install. Edit: correcting the above information, search for Iobit Advanced System Care, the actual name of the utility. Even because the program has some more nice features :) Edited February 19, 2012 by nosisab
FMod
If you don't run into any problems, it's almost certainly fine. Driver installers tend to clean up themselves. If you do run into problems, just uninstall the drivers and install again.
Vecna6667
Plus it should still be possible to roll back the driver in the device manager. However, when I update my video drivers, I use Driver Sweeper in safe mode after I uninstall the old video drivers as Windows 7 can have a tendency to reinstall them. It deletes the references in the Registry.
blove
It used to be a big deal, but not so much anymore. If you are using the AMD Catalyst Install Manager it should be taking care of everything for you. Personally I have not uninstalled any previous Catalyst drivers prior to installing new ones in at least a year.
slimhouse
Yeh no worries ...Device Manager always allowed you to just 'Update Driver' ...back in the day things like (Nvidia's) #Detonater Deleter was advised to 'cleanse' all areas re. Graphics~ Sounds like things have moved-on, noting the other posts! Edited February 22, 2012 by slimhouse
