I agree, that was the most eloquent statement I have read so far this year. Our community is so much richer for the presence of our senior members and I for one am glad to have you all. Kudos, Bond and exalts as well.

Premise: I have never downloaded a Slof's mod, but I have seen many of them. That's just because I mod the game only to tweak gameplay, not improve its aspect.

That said, I felt the need of expressing my sympathy to an artist who dedicated so much of her own spare time (my most valued and scarce resource) for free to a community that gave nothing back to her in change.

I felt very saddened to know that she retired all of her own work out of modding sites, but I strongly respect her decision. She has every right to do so.

Slof, I would be happy to see at least a goodbye post in this thread for all of those who appreciated your work and demonstrated to do so over the years.

With respect,

i disagree that we never gave anything back to her. People appreciate her work, the thing that chased her away was stupid immature comments, and people not understanding her, and why she made the mods she wanted, I understood why she did it and i support her, 100% in whatever she chooses to do. The problem is ( from what i get ) kids, immature kids that shouldn't download her stuff anyway, give stupid comments, like this is gay, or whatever.

Like i said before, I didnt like her robe trader cause it overwrote some stuff i didnt want overwritten. i love her Armors though, Not many people guy or girl have the guts to release such MATURE mods, with the quality she gives us. I aint saying goodbye because ill just go to her site. She isnt done modding. Just remeber if you like her stuff go to her site and support it. Dont just write her off as another person that quit, because she pulled her stuff from othersites.

She didnt quit just pulled her stuff, needs a break probably.

I support slof, a great modder that she is.

*Everyone: have a kudos each with my thanks for caring! It is very much appreciated. :)

Modding is in my blood - I was modding my toys as a little kid, modded my car, computer, even my home! I modded Doom way back when it was new, moved onto Quake, and more recently, Elder Scrolls. Customising stuff is as essential to my well-being as breathing! I am a big believer in individualism - I like to be different and do lots of things. Poor health means I can't be as active physically as I'd like, instead, I just turn to finding something that will keep my few remaining brain cells busy!

I get pleasure not just from creating, but also by sharing what I do. It's just the way I am. Being attacked for being generous is not acceptable in any community or culture. I have not stopped modding or sharing - I've just taken steps to take away the voices of those fools who hated me for being nice.

What hurts the most is when it is done in public for all to see as it was here. Someone signed up with the sole intent of insulting me. What I've done to upset this individual I will likely never know, but he saw fit to hurt me publicly. I don't quite understand why, but some people (always males, no less, never females) seem to hate this woman for liking and preferring men.

By restricting everything to my own site, I can at least maintain control over what's going on. I do occasionally get insults via email, but those don't bother me - they're not public. I can laugh at them and bin them, and no one else is any the wiser. I am not the one with problems - it's the trolls who have the problems, insecurities and hang-ups. While I grew up in a largely prudish family, my mother had been in the medical profession and she taught me that the body is a wonderful thing, a marvel of natural engineering, not something to be reviled or ashamed of. Sex in its natural state between consenting adults is not dirty, disgusting or perverted, it is purely natural and a great deal of fun.

Perhaps an easier coding option for Dark0ne would be the ability for mod authors to disable commenting altogether. It's either on or off. I know it can be done to prevent ratings, but not sure if that prevents comments as well. It takes away the voices of the trolls, but download counts speak all the praise needed. Mod of the month, top 100, hall of fame, etc, don't matter a jot to me. I share because I want to, not for glory. I love perusing screenshots and youtube and finding my stuff being used and enjoyed. That gives me pleasure, not ego-stroking.

I am an artist - both professional and for my own fun. I 'play' Photoshop for a living. Art is my life. And for most artists, sharing is part of it. True, I don't get paid for modding - I'd probably not want to do it if I did! However, the community has given me as much back as I have shared. Not just in mods, but in friendships, advice, help - even had meshes made especially for me. One cannot put a price on that.

It is for exactly that reason that I am hosting my mods and continuing to share them, if only in a more limited capacity. My site does not require sign-ups or donations, stuff is free to be downloaded. I am doing this because the community has supported me loudly and with enthusiasm. It's my way of saying thanks! :)

@AlienSlof I know of no greater way of thanking us for supporting you than to continue doing what we love you for, Thanks again and peace be unto you for all your days.

Respect, kudos, positive comments, are all nice things, but they do not earn you money.

I just meant that she, as every other modder, does it for free.

To get to the bare bone roots of that matter you really must understand that if it were not for Bethesda's decree that all of our creations are their sole property and as such may be given away freely but not sold, I can tell you without the slightest doubt that every single person in this community that has given long hours and probably some pain as well, if given the chance to make money for their artistic and laborious creations would jump on it with both feet.

If a pricing system based on the official plugins for price/content ratio were in place I could damn sure see charging people say 1$US a pop for mods like

Deadly Reflex and Fran's. All intellectual property is valuable and the artists/creators of that property deserve compensation for enjoyment of it by others. Looking at it that way however, I'm glad Bethesda Didn't allow that because it would have taken all the fun out of the whole concept and participation would have been minimal.

Speaking of intellectual property (and bear with me on this, it might just blow your mind), as an aspiring 3D modeler I have searched the web for free resources and during my search I came across a lot of individuals and groups that are selling their models for considerable sums of money. 280$ for a 3D model of a fighter jet with two buys in 3 years. If I were a professional 3D modeler and I wanted to make money on my own selling my work piece by piece I sure as hell wouldn't be charging what the work was worth as a whole. Instead of charging 280$ and getting 2 sales I would charge one dollar for that model and have thousands of sales. Honestly, out of a billion people at least a few thousand of them would snatch up any resource such as that just for the sake of having it.

So there you have it, the next get rich quick scheme, flood the market with moderate to very good quality affordable 3D resources of all types and watch as the digital revolution shifts in to high gear. We will have hundreds of animation and game development studios pop up over night and of the maybe one percent that actually make it, who knows one might be another RockStar or Bethesda.

Hmm....I wonder what happens to a mod page if I go to the forums and simply delete the auto-generated comment topic for it... ;)

I just tested this with this test page by manually deleting the auto-generated comment thread and it prevents the comments but it isn't exactly pretty. ;)

So the possibility to prevent comments is there although it requires a moderator to do so and it is irreversible.

I assume the rating will not do anything with the comment thread gone but I do not know because when I tried it, I got an error message saying "you cannot rate your own mods" hehehe.
