Adipose
I'm thinking about buying FO4. Is it worth it?
LeddBate
This might help you decide. Watch video in full window to get all the visual jokes. Also, some NSFW language here: Be sure to watch his other videos when you get the chance. They're hilarious.Oh, I like FO4, for what it's worth. iXenite
I'm not a great reviewer or anything, but this the review I wrote for Fallout 4 on Steam. Hopefully this is helpful for you to read. I should make note that I do not currently own Fallout 4 on PC. I did however play it during the "Free Weekend" they had. I do own it on PS4 though - and have sunk nearly 200 hours into the game. I have all of the DLC's, and have played through all of their content - except Nuka World. I have yet to finish Nuka World because I just don't feel like finishing it right now. Now that all of the introductory stuff is out of the way, let’s get to real review. Fallout 4 is a good game, and anyone who tells you otherwise is a liar. I, and many others, have sunk a lot of time into this game - that is not without a good reason. It's good. However, it is also a massive disappointment. If you're a huge Fallout fan, or for that matter, even a fan of games made by Todd Howard this game will likely be disappointing. At its core, it is a good game, but it is deeply flawed throughout. The entire game world is a giant shooting gallery, and nearly every quest requires that you go to some random location and kill everything that lives there, and then return for your reward. While using guns and other weapons is really enjoyable - it does get very repetitive after a while. I played this game for maybe 60+ hours without fast travelling a single time, but gave up after I grew tired of the non-stop shooting galleries everywhere I went. The story, while not horrible, does leave a lot to be desired as well. It lacks any depth, and feels half finished. It is the best they've probably every done, but that isn't saying much when the industry as a whole seems to be flying past them with far more interesting and engrossing stories these days. I could go into much more detail about this game, but I don't really feel like it. It's been done before by countless others - and honestly have better things to do then give this game more of my time. With that said, here is my final world. I do recommend this game, however, only buy this game at a deep discount with the DLC included (for mods and stuff). The maximum I would ever suggest anyone to buy this game at would be $19.99 USD with all DLC included. It is not worth it at a higher price. Period. Please do yourself a favor and don't waste your money on this game at its current price. There are far better games to be played than this one - it can wait. Pros:-Solid visuals for a Bethesda Game Studios game.-Arguably the best story Bethesda Game Studios has done.-Good, albeit repetitive, gameplay.-Good sound design.-Good music, both in the original score and the licensed tracks.-Overall nice art direction.-Companions are a massive improvement over their past games.-The voice acting is good for all NPC's, and the main character.-Settlement is an interesting feature, it does add to the replay value and character roleplay. Cons:-Bad optimization, regardless of platform.-Outdated game engine plagues this game in numerous ways.-Animations look great (for a Bethesda Game Studios game) during the intro, but are poor everywhere else.-Most of the character models for NPC's are bad.-AI is horrible, both friendly AI and enemy AI.-The game is easy no matter what difficulty you play it on.-Difficulty sliders do not make AI smarter, but instead make enemies more "bullet spongey".-RPG elements have been largely stripped from the game in favor of the story, a bad sacrifice.-Protagonists backstory, which is imposed by the game, is a core feature of this game. You cannot escape it. Period.-Most of the games missions and world design is built around shooting and looting.-The four-option dialogue system is very poorly handled, there is never any real illusion of player agency.-The factions, and the main quest, were not as fleshed out as they should have been.-DLC practices are horrible for this game, most of them are a waste of money.-Settlement mode is fine in its current state, but could have been even better. Modder’s have tried to make it better.-While I have sunk in a load of time in this game, the content is actually very sparse. How? Everything is almost all the same. TheMightyArchaon
You should watch some gameplay videos and decide after that
JagMaker
Fallout 4 gameplay is similar to MMORPG, as if you are playing for a character for which you donate all your money.Of course, if you have imagination, you can think up challenges,But after a few hours you realize that it is becoming more difficult to deceive yourself. CaptainPatch
If you boil it down to "getting more bang for your buck", then by all means, buy it. (Especially now that the price has dropped to Bargain Bin level.) Make sure to buy the Season Pass as well! Most videogames boil down to $X/hour of gameplay. I guarantee that with FO4, even if you don't like everything that it contains, even if you Speed Run the game and ignore all the peripheral stuff, you WILL be looking at the minimum to be enjoying tens-of-hours/dollar spent. More than likely it will be hundreds-of-hours/dollar spent. That should be a GREAT DEAL in anyone's book.
Fkemman11
If you mod the hell out of it like we do then you can easily enjoy this game for 6 months to a year or so! The visuals are very good, the combat is good, the choices for armor and weapons is decent, characters are believable and well voice acted if not very deep. Now you may not enjoy the settlement building that much at first, but after you figure a few things out you will be building crap everywhere! But like someone already said, watch some of the vids out there and see if you like it. Oh, and it seems to be a very stable game to mod.
Bernt
Got it when it came out. Still playing - heavily modded. And still need to finish it! Bought the season pass at the x-mas sale. I've been playing Fallout since FO1 came out back in the stone age. In some ways this is a dissapointment compared to the other games. On the other hand - the visuals are so much better - if you've got the rig. And one can love or hate the settlement part. I'm both........... Persoanlly I lack the depth and extremes of the earlier games. This is - to me- too politically correct. Missing the dark humor as well. Still - exploring Boston and meeting people is a lot of fun. Some of the companions are very bland. Others are well made - even interesting. Combat will get your adrenaline up high - even after several times in the same place. In other words - a mixed bag of apples. Depending on what you like to do. Just make sure to grab some good mods. There are plenty to choose from, that are of a very high quality :)

I really hope that the mods will back "fallout" in fallout 4.
Moksha8088
FO4 is one of the two best games. The other being Skyrim SE. Buy it.
