fLokii
I don't have a habit of complaining and whine and dine but since i started modding Skyrim a bit, i just have to point to this as it seems a rampant disregard, widely spread among mods.So i've been modding here and there since Fallout 3 and i remember there was always the rule one should not solicit endorsements, votes and such.Since Skyrim every second mod i open starts with : If you like this mod "capital letters, double font size, colored" ENDORSE, bla bla explanation how this will make author upload more, do better mods whatever nonsense. So questions are:1. Is the rule gone and its wild west rules in effect?2. Why do you feel the need to do it? In regard to 2, personally i never had the urge to plead for stuff like that. I mean first, it is not such a big deal, second, it's degrading imho. If someone will give you endo/vote they will do it regardless of you beggin for it and in the end if you get 100 of them less or more.. Whats the big deal, it's just a game and a hobby. Anyways just had to put this here cause it is, probably my own fault, something that annoyed me for some time now, even to extent that i don't even bother reading descriptions beyond that .. go figure. ub3rman123
The no soliciting rule is more for people who say things like, "If I get x number of endorsements, I'll make an update to a file!" The ones who simply ask for people who liked the mod to endorse it aren't as bad of a problem, since if the downloader didn't like the mod.. They don't endorse it. The main reason I believe people ask for people to endorse is because often users forget to come back to the page and endorse it, even if they loved the mod. While reminders like uploaders put on the page work (Sort of), the Nexus developers have been working on better systems for it.
LittleBaron
Whenever evaluating a rule or complaint, I always like to consider the following: Is this an issue that is negatively impacting my or other people's work? In this case, 'work' would include mods and the ability to obtain endorsements for them. I think the answer here would have to be no, both as a rule and as a complaint. General annoyance is not a valid negative impact. When people ask for an endorsement, you are annoyed so you don't DL and you don't endorse the mod, which is a perfectly fine way for you to disapprove. I'm not a fan of Anime', and there are a lot of anime' inspired mods out there. I find them annoying. Should there be a rule against them? Nope. fLokii
My point is not about my own "personal" feelings, it is about the rule and well.. let me try and illustrate. Terms of Service--snip--Do not solicit (ask for) ratings, endorsements or file of the month votes within your file description.--snip-- Example copy/paste: If you like this mod , pls endorse , is a little gift to me to continue updating fast :)And thank you so much to those who have think to donate at this project! If you wish to donate, private message me, --snip--. Ok.. so basically i read here: Endorse if you want updates, gimme money too.Having 80% of clicked mods show this i have to wonder if there's some unspoken change to rules or something. Hope you get what i'm saying.EDIT: Just added "about" [the rule], which i think wasn't clear as written before. LittleBaron
Well, it's good to have a dialog about it if the rule should be dispensed with since it's not being enforced anyway (?). Also, in your example above, someone is asking for money, which is an ethical/legal issue since the Nexus allows them a free platform to display the mod. There's not a problem with asking for endorsements imo, but asking for money is different.
Dragten
I am wondering the same as well. The rules does say, as you quoted that asking for endorsements is not allowed, and I, too am frustrated over the amount of mods that do. Would really want a mod to answer it.
Korodic
lol i've been really getting... -.- with people who do this on youtube with either starting or ending or int he description "rate, comment, subscribe" like NO. I'd do it IF I WANTED TO, BUT NOW I DON'T. idiots.
Arthmoor
"Please endorse for better support/ongoing updates!" ------>> Fast track to doing exactly the opposite for me, and I'll likely not bother to download.
Ironman5000
I have brought this up before in previous topics, including the skyrim competition forum. It is a bit annoying because it generates more endorsements for mods that really aren't that good, and has a tendency to overshadow mods that haven't asked to be endorsed but have the potential to be better. kibblesticks
I can't really say anything since I'm very forgetful and often that little "please endorse" message is the only thing that reminds me to endorse.
