Kahn373
Sorry if this has been asked but I couldn't find new info and it apparently changes often. I'm new to modding Skyrim and instructions say it's advised to move Skryrim out of the programfilesx86 folder. Of course Steam wants to control this. In Steam settings it allows me to move Skryim to a different drive but won't allow a different folder on the same drive. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks. TheGreatFalro
You should move the whole Steam folder out, to be honest. A place like C:\Games\Steam works perfectly. Just cut and paste it there.

gromulos
I've never moved any of my games out of where Steam puts them and they all run just fine. Those games include Fallout 3, NV, 4, Skyrim, and Skyrim special edition

Rabbit1251
Your game will run fine where Steam puts it; however you may run into problems when you attempt to mod it. I don't know about Windows 10 but so far I have had no issues with it. In Windows 7 there were some issues when trying to mod some of the Bethesda games in Program Files with it's security settings. Any game or program that I want access to I now leave outside of Program Files. The Rabbit

gromulos
I modded all 5 games i mentioned above at least a 1/2 dozen times each ( at least 100 mods for each ) and never had a problem and i DO use windows 7 SP1 which is the 64 bit version. I also play all my other steam games the same way like DayZ, ARK, Homeworld Remastered and Wasteland 2 along with several others. Rabbit1251
My early experience came with using Windows 7 pre-64 bit not long after the release of Oblivion. We used to warn people all of the time not to put your game in Program Files. Admittedly I haven't heard mention of this in quite some time. Perhaps MicroSoft changed the Windows 7 security safeguards making them less restrictive. Perhaps with the new 64 bit systems this issue has been dealt with. All I know is that it may be an issue that no longer exits. It wont be missed. The Rabbit
Rooker75
I don't know why Steam won't let move the game, but you can tell it where to install future games in Settings > Downloads > Steam Library Folders I installed an SSD and moved Steam and all games over to it and didn't have any problems with the games themselves or Steam. I did have serious problems with Nexus Mod Manager though. For whatever reason, it really dislikes not being on the same hard drive as the games it manages and I had a world of trouble getting it to work correctly afterward. It made a real mess of my Fallout 4 folder.
