Orbisi came gliding timespace wise, slipping through alternate existences and past phase barriers; all 13 of them were translucent, softly glittering, perfect spheres.

A massive black Dalekan dominatership sailed towards its intended victims of a peacefully inhabited planetary system. It was a great black ugly structure dotted with smaller structures no more attractive than the main one. Inside were over 1,000,000 daleks in status along with other, nasty, things.

Thus the Orbisi carried out its general observational mission while on their way to NewEarth 010104455. More exactly, they were heading towards NewWashington.

A great phantasm whale worm flickered through ever swirling cross realities and peacefully observed the Orbisi for just a fleeing moment.

They also noted the relatively slow moving, that is to them, of a great colonisation sleepership still on its way from OldEarth to NewEarth. The great spinning cylinder ran along the central shaft. At the fore of that shaft was the great sphere of the crew occupied command service support security section while at the aft were massive nuclear rocket drives and hyperdrive pods. The vessel was late and also there seemed to be something not quite right about it.

The Orbisi continued on their way, noting other sights of importance as they continued.

Another subway station had been found for settling in while BadWolf Station was investigated further. The Doctor was bemused when he revealed that the skeletal remains, of all of the dead humans, were excellently done fakes.

He spoke to Hardwall, who stood next to him. "All of this subway station is a fake. There was no actual place like it before the superweapons were used on that final day of grand stupidity. Question, why go to so much trouble to create such an illusion?"

It was a real good question with no such answer or was that true?

The Timelord continued. "I suggest that the idea was to turn a real subway station into a fake disaster, to convince anybody passing through that there was only death here. Refugees, going along the subway tunnels, most likely found some useful loot but then moved onward along the tunnels. At least a few of those would have been going through early stages of ghoulification. Those who knew the secret, of BadWolf Station, would come this way and then divert through secret doors to a real sanctuary or so seems to be the case. Perhaps the stories, about the wolf creatures, were made up to further scare Doomsday refugees away from this place."

Hardwall shook his head. "Some locals have glimpsed them but the oddity of all the stories is they have never once attacked anybody or made anybody known vanish. I delayed before telling you so as to double check on such accounts. Sung Mane's Journals recorded four such accounts. I have one, of only three copies, of those sets of journals so please be careful with them."

DocWho nodded. "We will make copies of them and return the original, plus some copies, to you as we plan to do with anything else of value that you allow us to borrow."

The puzzle had continued when the Doctor had realised most of the hidden network-systems were designed to scan, sensor sweep, and otherwise use hitech to discover fake people infiltrating the station and beyond. Hidden hatches, on the ceiling, would drop heavy weapon turrets while wall hatches would bring forth sentrybots and assaultrons more deadly than any protectrons. Other hatches, in the floors, led to ways out of the station and perhaps downwards to further safety.

LawRegulators, and K9bots, were carefully exploring the ablutions areas, the offices, and other station features. It had been no real surprise when Hardwall had turned out to be a LawRegulator but of higher rank than the fake leader of the just as fake DCGougers.

Hardwall spoke. "Its odd that this station's name is the same as the words found on the note that was with Saltis when she was found as a toddler, along with Rubin, Thomas, and the basis of Tinlegs."

The Doctor turned to Hardwall. "It would have been good to know of this earlier."

Hardwall just shrugged. "Saltis only told anybody of 'this' a short while ago. As she just recently noted, there are a row of shop signs, on Rank Street, that when read in the right order, whose first letters add up to the words 'bad wolf'. It was most likely a clue helping people to get down here, that is those who were meant to move on to some kind of sanctuary."

The Timelord nodded. "I saw it but decided to keep it to myself. When I was sent here, the term bad wolf was given as a possible clue to what Timelord rogues might be up to. It was a code word that they themselves used. Perhaps it was simply a direction for them to come here when they reached this world, if they ever did."

The fake, supposedly non functional, vending-machine turned out to be a supplier of survival equipment-supplies including guns, body-armour and powerful chems. The Doctor had easily hacked its security software to find that over half of the hidden resources had already been taken, most like by those passing through who had gone downwards and not along the tunnels.

More investigating was carried out but a surprise discovery, soon made, was that the hidden detection systems were partly designed to discover Timelords pretending to be humans.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize how much you love to write Graham. It's what you do.

If you earn Board and Room while you write on the side...It's your way. As the words Frank Sinatra sang imply, "Doing it my way." It's your way.

If you are happy about it, it's your link to your life source. Don't let anyone convince you otherwise. Be thankful to those who provide your funds to support your Board and Room too though.

My gift to you is I wish for you to enjoy what makes you happy.

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

The PaleNexiHigh5 sat cross legged upon a hovering disk like dais overlooking crystaline screens showing the battle. Talon Mercenaries, mostly poorly armoured-armed thug-mercs, were being easily driven back. They had caused the supermutants barely to pause while losing too many of their own. Soon their barely orderly retreat would be a wild disorderly one with the exception of a few elite Talon units; they would be quickly cut off. Or so the situation was heading but the PaleNexi did not make foolish assumptions.

A big screen showed, non reversed mirror like, Talon thug-mercs moving steadily along a laneway with their weapons, other gear, and wounded. They were retreating in a fairly orderly fashion but it was not too hard to pick up their fear especially since the enemy had starting using mininukes of varied kinds in a very accurate manner undiscovered by the Talon High Command. They moved past long abandoned, damaged, public transport buses and a tipped over police car.

PaleNexiCommon served the rogue PaleNexiElite rogues but with increasing uncertainty. Yet PaleNexi5 was almost elite, being PaleNexiHigh, and was also having doubts. Hence a series of subtle-secret messages sent to the PaleOneMan.

Another screen showed elite Talontroopers, in power armour, in a fighting retreat that was driving them underground. The armoured humanoids fired off mainly energy weapons as their ammo supplies were highly depleted and they had been cut off from supplies. As they backed off, they found themselves in a armoured, highly fortified, position and there were stacks of containers with ammo, food rations, purified water, medical stuff, and much more. There were also some workbenches, power armour frames, and even spare sets of T45 power armour. Instead of questioning the gifts, the Talontroopers seemed unsurprised by their being there. This was a planned for emergency cache and outpost. So they began to smartly utilise what was there.

There was a bright flash as a mininuke went off and then another one, vaporising the Talontroopers.

The Talons had been betrayed, as was becoming clearer as such caches were empty or, worse, booby-trapped. Word went out to all Talons to stay away from those places except for special units that dealt with the booby-traps, to salvage what valuable resources that they could. The main treachery had been that they had been told to expect a much less dangerous enemy that they could easily deal with.

The PaleOneMan was suddenly there, in solid projection form, and he nodded. "Aspects of PaleNexi are waking up to the manipulated madness of some few PaleNexiElite. This is optionally fine!"

PaleNexiHigh5 responded. "Optionally fine, yes, but one needs further evidence of growing optionally bad behaviour by the relative PaleNexiElite. It is being gathered. One considers a possible split with the PaleNexi, the forced away being driven to losing the 'PaleNexi' naming."

Such a losing of 'naming' was considered a big social-political-spiritual blow by the PaleMassAll.

PaleOneMan: "They may not do any real harm, to the rogue criminals, for they have already poorly used the PaleNexi in getting this far. One suspects the rogues planned to abandon PaleNexi from before the plan was presented to PaleNexi but now listen!"

From the PaleOneMan came a strange ugly beautiful music dotted with the odd bing noises of code. PaleNexiHigh5 froze for some seconds, as did multiple other PaleNexiMass.

Then PaleNexiHigh5 spoke even as he came out of his deep hypnosis. "So it was a double trick all along decided by the PaleEmperorUlt. PaleNexi will arrest the rogue criminals at once."

PaleOneMan responded. "Do not bother trying. They will be long gone and would have already renamed themselves. As for PaleEmperorUlt, he has vanished from the home realm while under investigation for high treason, deep antioptionalism, theft of resources allocated to general prosperity, and murder of the PaleImperial881 Chancellor Express of the Crescent. She is being slowly reborn but is most unhappy."

PaleMassFemales were relatively uncommon but highly powerful and dangerous.

The PaleNexiHigh5 observed as the Talon Mercenaries kept being swept back by the hulking supermutants.

Professor Stanislaus Braun knew that he should be happier, relaxed and more confident than he felt. Tranquillity Circuit was a great big wheel of a road with houses, apartment blocks, shops, a school, a zoo, a dentist, a National Guard fort and much more. In the center was a very neat garden park with footpaths, a children's playground, a small lake and some interesting features.

The sadistic monster enjoyed very much taunting, torturing, killing and bring back to life his victims in that super virtual reality realm that he was in total control of. Except...

When he had set up young Judy Brant to be raped, tortured and murdered by the Masked Beastman, being himself as an avatar, somehow the victim had escaped when that should not have been possible.

When he sought, as a big friendly looking dog, to ripe Henry Johnson to pieces, he lost control of his avatar that then acted like a big friendly dog.

When he tried to, as Sergeant Crank, to have Private Mayhap burn himself to death with a faulty flamer, instead it was his own avatar that was burned to death. That had been most agonising.

Mostly as Betty Blue, a little girl with a sweet smile that never got to her cruel eyes, Braun has found pleasure in planning his next evil trick or in enjoying the aftermath. Yet now he was caught off guard, was looking around and was wondering just what was going on. She stood close to the swings, in the playground, wondering if there was some kind of infiltrator, a hacker, turning things against him.

The noise of a crow had him turn to looking up at a big, black, bird on top of the monkey bars. He never did like crows and would never have programmed one into his paradise but there was one and it looked mean.

The crow spoke in a strangely distorted voice. "Enough is enough, Braun! It is time for you to die permanently and to let these poor people be free of your insane cruelty."

Braun did not have time to do anything to protect himself as seconds later a meteorite shot down, out of the sky, and then there was nothing but a crater left where he had stood.

Suzanne was examining an elaborate console even as she spoke to her grandfather who was in BadWolf Station. "From what we have been picking up with local radio communications, Doctor, the Talon Mercenaries were sent to fight what they were told would be a supermutant force that was to be much smaller than the one that actually showed up. They were also expected the supermutants to be wilder and equipped with more primitive armour, weapons and other gear. They were betrayed with the secret planting of mininukes in their emergency caches and perhaps a mininuke, disguised as a howitzer shell, that destroyed those five big weapons and most of the Talons in that square."

DocWho: "Who-what hired the Talon Mercenaries to carry out that contract?"

Suzanne: "Once I got past the primitive coding, which was not hard, I found that it was some faction known as the DCSyndicates that did so. They appear to be a set of powerful, criminal, groups aligned as one faction of criminals. They appear to be the only organised crime in DC. The DCSyndicates have their own security mercenaries but they focus on looking after the DCSyndicates homebase of ParadiseFalls."

She went on! "ParadiseFalls is also a large settlement where law, ironically enough, is strictly kept. The DCSyndicates are behind organised slavery, death games, brothel based prostitution, professional assassination, high stakes gambling, and a few other things of which some seem inexplicable; more data is clearly needed. There are fifteen syndicates each of which is linked to a DCSyndicate Family. The DCSyndicates Council actually contracted the Talons as they have done many times before."

DocWho: "Anything unusual, exotic, that might indicate the use of Timelordic technologies?"

Suzanne: "Problem is that there are so many unusual, exotic, energy signals on this world, that it is hard to know just what to focus on. The killclaws are happy and various testing on them has revealed much about the NewEarth. The deghoulification research development project is going surprisingly well considering all the obstacles to be overcome."

DocWho: "Excellent! I want to meet the killclaws myself. As for those poor radghouls, let us hope that we find some kind of solution for at least a few of them. So far we have found that BadWolf Station was set up to test all those going through to what ever sanctuary they were heading for. They were after not just Timelords but androids, synths, and some kind of shapeshifters along with other targets yet to be fully defined; I suspect that the seekers did not know what to look for in all cases. I have to get back to work, unless there was something else."

Suzanne: "Lassana appears to be doing well!"

DocWho: "Very good! I will visit her soon."

Then the communications were ended.

Suzanne turned to the woman called Lassana. "He will come and see you but one is never sure what grandfather means by the word 'soon'."

Lassana, who looked like an older version of Suzanne, but with some variations, shrugged. "When it happens, it happens. I am returning to the killclaws."

Then she was leaving the command control chamber as Suzanne went back to her work.

Saltis walked along the platform of Rank Street Subway Station. She carried a bag of items to deliver to the new medical dispensary where Doctor Elaine Crathers was setting up her practice. DocWho had helped to upgrade her medical knowledge. He was wary of the over use of, and over dependence, on cures like stimpaks which could, and often did, have bad long term side effects on those who used them too much.

Saltis saw DocWho who walked towards her. Clearly he had come from the other station. Or was that the case? There was something odd about him though not alarming. Like Rubin, and Thomas, she had a strong-subtle way of sensing danger.

The other smiled. "I am DocWhat, a special clone of DocWho, just as Dazanne is a special clone of Suzanne. I came here to see how I could help the new settlement and to ask you some questions. I also have some interesting news for you, Rubin, and Thomas."

Thomas ran up to her so she put down her bag and was soon holding the thrumming feline in her arms.

Though burning with curiosity, Saltis pretended not to care. "So what is it?"

The clone responded. "Thomas, Rubin, and yourself are all part Timelord. There are animals who are Timelordic hybrids along with other entities though the Timelords High Council frowns on such practices. Such are quite rare but perhaps not as uncommon as official Timelord Elder Archives state they are. The three of you thus have at least some intrinsic Timelordic abilities. You need guidance and training. DocWho would like you to spend periods of time in the DocTARDIS. There, in a relative time compression chamber, you can gain lots of training-teaching while only a short time passes here. Of course you will be compensated for your effort and patience but we can negotiate later."

Saltis would have preferred negotiating then-there but she was in truth very keen to understand the abilities that DocWhat spoke of.

Scavengers, hunters, mercenaries, gladiators, and many others were moving in. A few of them were ghoulmans because there was no prejudice against them in that community. This was partly because of all the radhumans that would live there. A larger amount of useful resources had been found than had been expected by most and Saltis suspected that the Timelords were at least partly responsible for that.

A MrHandy hovered past, its limbs prepared to do more repair work.

Saltis frowned softly. "Why wasn't I told earlier?"

DocWhat smiled. "Because we Timelords had to be careful for there are some complications that come with being even a Timelordic hybrid. Also I am a Timelordite just as Dazanne is for clones can not be true Timelords for we never gain the full abilities of Timelords. Perhaps that is for the best."

Which was when the Talons came.

15.2

The former thug-mercs did not remain for very long for the locals were clearly not happy to be there. Yet they did do some fair trading and were given some basic equipment-supplies though no weapons or ammo. DocWhat talked with them, as did some LawRegulators, learning some valuable things and lots of military gossip. The Talons were clear that only a very few Talons had betrayed the rest, those being named and being put into prison awaiting execution.

There were subfactions, inside the Talons faction, but that was only to be expected. There were whispers that those to be killed were scapegoats not chosen by the Field Marshal himself who had yet to openly act on what was happening while none had doubts he would already be at work in a more covert manner.

What was commonly known was that the Talon Mercenaries were not even pretending to be fighting the supermutants any longer but had withdrawn fully out of the fight. Pockets, of Talons, that had been surrounded by the enemy had been left behind as the supermutant army moved on towards the GrandMall. It was humiliation, to many of the mercenaries, that the enemy could not even be bothered to fight them or so it seemed to them.
