What's the first thing you do when you start a new game? Please, don't say "Escape Helgen". I know many people so the same stuff I do, but I hope there will be some interesting answers.

I usually raid the wood elf's home in Riverwood and go through Bleak Falls Barrow . After that, it's just adventure.

I've been using the mod Live Another Life and it's great. Best mod ever. Usually I just pick a city close to where I start and head there to grab some gear then just roam around gaining a few levels before I actually start doing any quests. I also use Immediate Dragons, Deadly Dragons, and Wars In Skyrim. So needless to say adventuring around at level 1 is quite dangerous, makes it more exciting though.

I head for the nearest mine... I have a bunch of mining mods installed. One gives me 27 ores per vein and another lets me produce 10 ingots per 1 ore. Then I start making iron daggers. Now if I could only find a mod that increases the amount of leather strips you can make from leather.

Keeping it in vanilla terms with regard to location and starting equipment here is what my last 2 restarts have done. I visit the 3 stones on the way to Riverwood then move into the city after dark. I take all crafting materials I can pilfer, to include a pickaxe and gold. I make a few items and sell it all. I keep found arrows and purchase more with the paltry ammount i actually earned. I may chop some wood if I need more gold. I then head towards one of several good hunting locations to fill my pack with skins, furs and leather. All the time, I mine whatever is found. I report back to one of my trusty barrels to unload and off I go again, several times. Once my general survival skills are reasonable, I take on the first 2 quests. I still linger around until about 10th - 15th level until I turn the main one in. By then, I can reasonably manage fighting my beefed up dragons with at least some chance of victory.

I try making as much money as possible looting different places. Then i buy steel and iron ingots and start smithing to get better weapon and armor. After i'm like level 20 or something after caves and forts and other, i start main quest and kill first dragon. Then i start doing civil war and continue main quest later. This is what i have done with atleast 5 save files this far.

I go chopping woods (with Unlevelled World) - normal game I usually cleared Embershard Mine near Riverwood, then get 2 quests, visit Bleak Falls Barrow, then rest of the Whiterun Jarl quests, then seek Lydia from woods :P

Iron daggers are the cheapest way to raise Smithing. After an hour I have enough skill to make ebony armor so I'm off to Gloombound Mine. I start my first quests fully equipped with ebony gear.

The first thing I did was get lost! I was looking around, minding my own business and BAM! was promptly killed. :)

Honestly, I don't like being forced into doing quests unless I want to do them.

Then Skyrim started showing its console roots and I knew in my heart that I would never be able to play the vanilla game. (Mods are a must)

Depends on your character. If you want to be a companion head to Whiterun, but avoid Dragonsreach. If you want to be a mage head to Winterhold. If you wan to be a theif head to Riften.

Personally, I did my best to avoid the Dragonborn questline, but I still learn the shouts. Also, if you know what side of the war you want to be on those are fun as well.
