AnEwoksWrath
I'll probably get banned for this but it needs to be said. Bethesda PURPOSELY added a poor mod system for consoles. They played into basic human selfishness knowing that a minority of console players would steal mods off the Nexus and upload them to the their website and built the site so that the legitimate uploads could be pulled because of butthurt. With the number of "PC Master Racers" and angry modders they spawned, they created a rift between consoles and PC which allowed them to add the Creation Club therefore legitimizing paid mods. They played us against each other so they could bolster their bottom line. Console and PC shouldn't be fighting, we should be fighting Bethesda for producing a weak game, weak DLC, and for pushing paid mods. This has been eating at me for quite a while and now I'm finally saying it. Bethesda proved us to be fools.
Ethreon
Neat argument. Too bad that's not how it works. Just being a blind hater paints you poorly mate. "knowing that a minority of console players would steal mods off the Nexus" - unless you got some unrealistically secret proof of this, it's nonsense, specially since this, just like CC, was most likely an upper management initiative, therefore without any realistic support other than "it will make us money". "With the number of "PC Master Racers" and angry modders they spawned, they created a rift between consoles and PC " - they didn't create s#*!. The PC mustard race has existed for ages, ever since yahtzee invented the expression and idiots took it serious. All in all it's just money moves and you don't seem to realize that. chucksteel
I'm going to have to disagree with the OP here, your post sounds more like your trying to fan flames rather then bringing the communities together. 1. If you play on console the modding system isn't all that bad, yes it's not the mod managers or systems we have on PC with the nexus but, its fully functional and works well. Sure the console doesn't get F4SE mods or Adult mods but there are legitimate reasons for that. The Xbox can have almost exactly the same mods as PC and they perform just as well if you take into account the limitations of the platform. ie. Not trying to fill your game with 4k textures and mods that tax the system. 2. They didn't need to try to turn the "PC Master Race" (Your words not mine!) against the console players. There was enough hate floating around the day Bethesda announced that mods would be available on console. Many modders are still anti console and go out of their way to make mods that can't be used on them. (This is perfectly fine in my opinion, it's their right to choose where they share their work) 3. Some of us have been supporting console modding from day one! I have been and all of my mods are exactly the same on both PC and Xbox. I even picked up an Xbox to test my mods on but, find I like playing Fallout for better on it so I now use my PC game for creating mods and Play on Xbox. 4. Bethesda did miscalculate I believe! I assume they just thought modders would be flocking to their site to share mods with an entire new group of people and didn't expect the theft at the level it turned out to be at. Once the theft started they also failed to control or prevent it further which was also a huge mistake. This did drive a lot of people away and did create a bigger rift then the one that already existed. I can't argue with that. 5. As Ethreon said the CC was most likely an upper management idea, I have my issues with it but, for console players it's not all together a bad thing. PS4 gets stuff they couldn't get because of Sony's restrictions for example. 6. The introduction of mods to console was acctually somewhat good, I know quite a few console players who have gotten the game on PC and have started to create mods for themselves. There is also a group of new modders that mod exclusively for the PS4 simply due to it's limitations and they have come up with some creative solutions to this problems. This brings new life to the community and these people would have never understood the power or fun of modding their games without Bethesda. I could go on but, I won't! Edit: My point is that this is not some grand conspiracy by Bethesda simply to divide the communities so they could introduce paid mods with the CC. There are Pro's and Con's in every situation. Moksha8088
Bethesda did parents a favor by introducing mods to the XBox. Now instead of listening to their kids asking for a new console video game, they can tell the kids to just go download some free mods - thereby extending the game life. You're the one who seems to have gotten hurt somewhere between the ears. Not "us" and not even "they". The rift between console players and PC gamers only exists in the minds of those consolistas who dislike computer gaming and computistas who dislike console gaming. Te rift is in fact filled to the brim with console and PC gamers having a party. And Bethesda turning their customers against them is nothing new and isn't exclusive to Bethesda either. The fact that FO4 and Skyrim/SSE are still being played en-masse years after their respective release proves that Bethesda did something right, somewhere. You, amigo, have a self-inflicted itch you need to have scratched. I'm not the one who's gonna do the scratching, mind. I have an appointment in Compsole Valley where there's a party to attend to... pra
IMO the main problem is that on one hand, consoles are the top priority for Bethesda, with PC users being regarded as a nuisance. But on the other hand, they NEED the PC users to make mods which keep their games alive. Maybe they hope to replace these pesky PC-bound modders with the CC. And even if they don't actively plan on it, it might happen on it's own, if they continue like this. Their next game will have bethnet and CC integration from the very beginning, that is a given. But if that prevents you from installing mods from any other source, or makes it sufficiently hard, community-driven modding will fail to catch on. Then they could go for an "appstore"-like approach, where professional developers can upload explicitly for-profit mods. Though again, I doubt that this would work. Such a developer would barely earn anything, I think.
Evangela
5. PS4 gets stuff they couldn't get because of Sony's restrictions for example. I said the same thing once, but now I feel bit different about it. If Bethesda were a retail company, I'd certainly believe this to be the case, as a lot of stupid ideas with the intention to milk money from customers, comes from higher up(I have 20yrs retail experience, I've seen it all -.-). But Bethesda isn't a retail business. I'd say Todd played a hand in this. Edited March 16, 2018 by Rasikko
