Fonger
Any General advice for a new player . . . besides check out the tech tree before you do much else to see where you want to go . . . Specifically looking for experienced players suggesting the best way to play . . . Artillery (sniper from above) - tips on finding a decent spot to bombard from Anti-tank (Marten and so on) (sniper from your nightmares) Scout Tank . . . Most of the random encounters have people racing around the edges of the map . . . to charge the enemy. Only had one encounter where the players staged a defense in depth and waited to annihilate the expected charge The best I can come up with at the moment (general tank) is follow the heavies
Dark0ne
World of Tanks is most definitely a game of patience. You need to have the patience to out wait your opponent and make them come to you, and fight you on your ground, not theirs. The best advice I can give is to watch the mini-map more than you do the screen; because the mini-map will show you the areas you need to be defending, or areas of the enemy's side that is open to attack. I love to play the faster tanks (French and USSR T9 Medium Tanks) to exploit this type of play. It's much more fun than sitting behind a rock all day and poking your nose out if anything ever comes your way.
Fonger
ever had a battle where your entire team rushed to the right side of the map leaving you all alone to ponder the impending capture of your flag . . . Yesterday found a perfect spot for defense and the opponent had 5 tier 5+ tanks defending it. Minor gap in the mountains . . . Too bad it was supremely open to artillery . . . "Oh somebody's shooting me, I'll pull back . . . WHAM again and again  and again So what did they do . . . they sent in more to defend the gap :woot: Think I had 2 shells left that game There's another map that seems to draw exactly the same kind of battle ... the heavies rush to the upper left cornet to duke it out in the city ruins - not so open to artillery, but somehow it draws exactly the same battle every time. The most fun with the Martin (or was it the Czech 35 tank) was the other team lined up on a ridge. Yo Dudes your :excl: is exposed BTW what's a blue tank signify -- in one battle a teammate was listed in blue What oo (o) -- Blue is a certified team killer. minngarm
yea shoot blue guys they are bad. I suggest playing every tank too completion and if youre crew is close to 100% keep playing until you unlock a skill, you can train up crew from one tank to another tank of the same class, example a light tank sold with crew kept can have its old crew trained up for free or either silver or gold option to another tank of the same nation and class (light tank) which would result in them having higher starting skill with that new tank. Also they keep their own personal medal record which is just nifty too see. I would suggest trying out TDs and SPGs as well they usually earn good and have an edge against the rest of their class. Also keep in mind if you are a SPG or up against one, they work just like TDs but with better range. DO NOT charge them head on.
Fonger
yea shoot blue guys they are bad. no exp for killing a blue and you pay for the ammo depends if they try to kill another in your sight BTW be certain to finish the tutorial - it comes with a free "premium" Stuart type III light Russian tank and a free garage slot Edited April 23, 2012 by Fonger
minngarm
Yea but blues will often shoot you and other allies if not to kill than to dmg further so its easier for the enemy to win. Best to finish them off first.
Skolhamarr
I have learned more, from playing in clan wars and Clan training, than anything else. Pub matches are one thing, but there is nothing like clan battle. If you have stats, find a clan, that has land or trying to get land. It is best place to hone your skills as tanker. A good clan should pay you to play. At least my own does. No team killing just makes the match that much harderDon't bring low tiers tank into high tier battles, you just piss people off. like a 1 in 10 battle, you just took a spot for another tier 10 or an arty.... Don't blame arty, they normally should do all the heavy lifting. Arty win matches, a good arty player will make the game. Higher Tier battles... don't take a t-50-2, take a bat chat. speed, gun and hit points... works better as scout look at the Terran, and keep arty safe when playing. Not enough people do that in pubs, makes my job much easier when they do not. When doing counter Battery, most times. aim little in front or little behind. Mostly in the front arty player like to pull forward after a shot.. Wot isnt about kills it is about damage. Damage is what makes your x2 every night more. more damage you do more exp you get....
