Bemused, that is, because even the amazing Sherlock Holmes had no idea just how his group had ended up getting to that other place. This was something that his group shared with the damphir triplets' group. They gathered together, with chosen sentries on watchful alert, and went over what they had learned. Doctor Watson sat, with fair comfort, on a small flattish topped boulder. "Dorothy did not tell you just where this place is, what it actually is, or how you got here?" Katrina shook her head. "No! I did not get the 'sense' that she was hiding anything; rather I gained the idea that she had so much on her mind that she forgot to give us any information of that kind. She did attempt to send us back to Freedom Island, as Quinn already mentioned, but failed because 'something' blocked her from doing so. She then gave us the special gifts that we still all have as a group but which we have barely used as yet." Mystery bound into puzzles linked with challenges! Too many answers that begged more questions! The cave chamber itself was part metallic stone with a gargoyle figure crouched over a bowl shaped pool. Except that the gargoyle was a statue and water poured from its gaping mouth into the green plant half filled waters. There must have been a way for the water to escape the bowl for its level remained consistent. Sherlock Holmes went through the motions of sucking on his dry pipe for a moment and then sighed. "We continue onwards to the domed city that Dorothy suggested that you make your way to, triplets. Hopefully she will make contact with us. This cave was designed to be a safe stop over for travellers but I suspect that none have done so for some time. There is a lingering sense of abandonment in this place." Apart from the gargoyle, and pool, there were metallic stone alcoves that seemed to be designed as some kind of shelters. In one corner, of the big chamber, were remnants of wooden f@&#!ts and some animals bones along with other junk. Somebody, it seemed, had done one last quick job to clean up the place. Who was that and how long ago was that? Some were eating while others rested and yet others tended to their gear. Somehow, with out discussing it openly, the combined groups had decided to rest in that place for a short while.

There was no aggression only some difficult negotiations taking place between ocean going people and land based humans. The cleverly designed, and made, three multiple jointed legs supported machines each held one tentaculan entity in its globular shaped head but each had small repair-maintenance biomech spider units that were remote guided, each having its own artificial intelligence. More comet-projectiles were falling from the sky, than ever before, being in multiple numbers. They were crashing into the oceans, creating now great spouts of water as often as they exploded. Always they exploded when hitting lands or ice. Super weapons were released to dart across the upper skies, of the world, sometimes intercepting and making comet-projectiles to explode into destruction but most got past. Fighting spread across the world as glimmerfogs began to appear and less dangerous glimmermists far more often than they did. Spain was attacked from the Atlantic Ocean. South America fought off an offensive from the Pacific Ocean. At night terrible glimmering things swarmed through the sky, arising from the glimmerfogs, and airships, along with newer type jetplanes plus rocketplanes, fought them as they targeted the 'glimmering targets' of the enemy. Convoys were soon commonly used as they had been in the last big war, most being mostly surface ships with some airships. Field Marshal Henry Adler launched a massive counter attack against a major undeath invasion on the western coast of Australia. The artillery barrage, including big flare shells, was enough to make the night seem like day. The pounding of the invading glimmerfog, and glimmermists, went on for many hours as rockets were added to the welcoming mix. Experimental UVlaser-cannons began to burn the enemy as did mighty flame-cannons. Yet the glimmerfog quickly turned out to be very powerful, and tenuous, this time. It seemed to send forth an almost endless array of glimmermists and, in them, great swarms of zombies. It did not help that they were heavily clad in unnatural, glistening, leathery material that made them harder to kill except when it came to some rather exotic ways. The experimental UVlaser-cannons burned away the unnatural armour as if it did not exist. The field marshal's forces were victorious but he knew that it would get harder, to defeat the enemy, with every coming battle. Maharg67
http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Dragonpen61/Forum%20Additives/Tabbys-tabby-cats-25424501-425-251-1.jpg The Cat #3 The older brown skinned girl comes sneaking into the yard and went carefully up to the house. She is scruffy, wears dirty clothes but has made some attempts to keep herself clean. With a little difficulty she carries a backpack of stuff and pulls a small two wheeled shopping-cart with more stuff. The back door is locked but she points her finger at it, there is a clicking noise, and in she goes easily enough. The cat is not sure what this means but carefully spies on what is happening, as does the puppy. Neither 'senses any danger in the older girl child, far from it.The pair of them move quietly across the yard, from the hiding place they had observed the girl from, and enter the house. They are very cautious but find the girl in the big, modern kitchen carefully putting some cat food in two bowls. She looks around to the feline and canine, not surprised at all at them being there, and she speaks nice sounding words. Soon the cat, and puppy, are eating the bowls full of canned cat food. The strange girl goes through the house, searching with amazing ability to find lost, or even hidden things, not discovered by the soldiers in the strange metallic armor. The girl finds a very cleverly hidden floor safe from which she takes a semiautomatic pistol, some ammo, a torch, some rechargeable batteries, some small golden ingots and some other items. In another hiding place she finds canned food, more rechargeable batteries, a solar battery recharger, a .22LR calibre bolt-action rifle, dried fruit, powdered food, instant coffee, tea leaves, a portable camp cooker, a large medical kit and more items of useful nature. When she went around making sure the house was secure, the cat and dog followed her. She stopped to fuss over them every so often, they fell in love with her, and then she found the basement chamber. It was quite secure, being set up as a storm shelter and a basic panic room. There were some bunks, a pet bed, a kitchenette, gas supplies, water supplies, a cramped toilet cubicle, a workbench area, a small library area, a LCD TV-set and quite a few other useful things. The girl wasted little time in making this into a new home. She used the cramped shower cubicle but carefully used only some water. The puppy jumped in with her but the cat quietly disdained to do something so obviously silly. The girl made up a meal of canned food, had some coffee also using powdered milk and then slept on a bunk with both animals curled up against her. Maharg67
http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Dragonpen61/Forum%20Additives/Tabbys-tabby-cats-25424501-425-251-1.jpg The Cat #4 The girl changed everything; she helped to make the cat, and puppy, happier and more secure in their lives while they made her life happier also. They played, she read books, she watched DVDs on a small TV set, they ate food and sometimes shared cooked meat. They slept together on the bed, at night, except when she studied the starry night sky through a fairly large telescope. High altitude aircraft passed overhead and, somehow, she always knew to hide away herself, and the animals, from outside before it happened. More machines, and humans in metal, passed by the house but at a safe distance. Once there came, in the darkness of one night, loud noises like thunder from the distance and flashes of light. One night some horribly twisted human like creatures came shambling past the house, strange bodies showing red scars and gruesome mounds, hands ending in claws, mouths gaping open to show fangs. Bits of clothing hung from some of them. The five creatures did not even look at the house and, somehow, the cat and dog knew the girl was making sure that they did not do so. Then five rifle shots rang out. The cat knew a rifle shot when she heard it. She had watched, and listened to, young male adult humans shooting rifles at targets in the back yard. Except that these shots sounded much louder. All five creatures collapsed to the ground, twitched a couple of times, and then lay dead. The girl picked up the animals, hugged them to herself, and surprised them by crying quietly; they licked her and did other things to try to make her feel better. After a while she hugged them even more and laughed softly. Some men came, in tough leathery stuff, but with heads uncovered. They came in a strange looking machine that hummed softly. They looked around as if hoping to see something in particular. After a short time they dumped the dead deformed humans onto a flat area at the back of a machine and did things with them with rope; the cat knew about rope. Then the machine hummed away and was gone. They had something to eat before the girl had a shower, with both animals this time as the cat pretended it was her idea all along that she should join in. Then they slept on the bed together. Edited November 11, 2016 by Maharg67

It is both the other and myself! Me, myself and I! The things I know about myself, the things I don't know about myself, the things that I am not sure of. Of course I do not get everything right all of the time and self deception is always possible, probable, perhaps inevitable. One can only do one's best and facing one's true self can be the hardest challenge of all. Edited October 27, 2016 by Maharg67
Maharg67
http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt9/Dragonpen61/Forum%20Additives/Tabbys-tabby-cats-25424501-425-251-1.jpg The Cat #5 Quiet times followed except for motor vehicles passing, in the distance, mostly in larger numbers, or in aircraft flying through the air high overhead. The three had a basic, but joyful, life together. The girl read, watched just a few videos on TV, wrote into her journal. The cat hunted mice but only indoors, there still being plenty to catch. The puppy staid with the girl when the cat went hunting. One night, in the distance, strange flashes lit up the darkness and there was the sounds of something that sounded like thunder. The girl became more pensive. The next day she began to pack items for the three of them. Somehow she got the animals to understand that they would need to move quite soon. Being quite territorial, as cats are, the feline was not happy but she trusted the girl enough to know that it had to be done. Some kind of danger was coming, or maybe more than one kind of danger. Anyway they were starting to run out of precious things. As they made their way, in the darkness, away from the house some soldiers came in dull metallic stuff, in a big humming machine, and were soon going through the house. Of course they would find all the stuff that the girl had found but then left behind. Even as the three, the girl holding the sleepy canine, got to a crumbling house, two more big machines came and halted at the place they had just retreated from. The sky had a few clouds gathering but the half moon could be seen and also some bright dots in the sky. The girl pointed out that some were spacestations belonging to the Spacers who had fled from the Earth when the great crisis had begun. The feline was interested, despite that she barely understood anything of what the human spoke of. She did not know it then but the cat was changing and so was the puppy along with the girl. For the cat had forgotten that it had gotten sick but unlike most, the feline had survived the strange plague.
