The Cat #6

In the darkness the smiling man stopped his small, electric, four wheel drive vehicle and the girl got into the front passenger seat. Sensing that the man was safe, the feline went with the canine to join her. In the back was a young woman and an older female dog. It was as if the girl had been guided to, drawn to, the meeting place which is exactly what had happened. The vehicle was not showing any lights but the driver was using night-vision goggles.

The vehicle set out at once through the bleak semiwilderness, past long abandoned looted buildings and rusting wrecks of vehicles. What devastation the plague had not brought, the distorted ones and chaos had. They moved fairly slowly, being careful for the paved roads were in bad condition for understandable reasons. The government kept up maintenance only on some paved, and dirt, roads that it found important; some had had their asphalt stripped away for it was easier to maintain, and repair, dirt roads especially if they were often being used by heavy vehicles.

The cat was starting to understand things that it never had begun to understand before it had gotten sick. It regained, clearly, good and painful memories of being with the family like sitting vigil with her beloved girl child as she died of the plague. The parents, and older siblings, could not help simply because they were already dead or dying. The family dog had died also and, though she had found him to be an annoying silly pest at times, this also saddened her.

The puppy also had bad memories but of more recent times as he had survived a new bout of plague, a small outbreak.

During the daytime they hid inside a ruined looking structure that was cleverly propped up from within to make it safer and useful. Soon the puppy had been adopted by the older dog but the cat tended to stay more with the girl child; the puppy took turns between the two until the older female dog also joined the girl.

It rained lightly and rainwater was collected in any clean containers that could be found, there being no working plumbing in such places. The cat found that she liked the man a little more than the young woman for she was definitely not a cat person.

Twice there was the noise of jet aircraft passing fairly high overhead and once that of helicopters.

The Cat #7

The cat was picking up that the humans, including his beloved girl human, were all psychics of a special kind. They often empathically telepathed and she sort of listened in, sometimes picking up non language type sensory impressions. If the odd humans, that the cat 'sensed' were unlike other humans such as those of her old family of humans, knew the cat was picking up the psychic communications they gave no indications of it.

When darkness came again they moved on and hid under trees once when a great number of big jet aeroplanes passed high overhead towards where the flashes of light had previously been seen. This time there were many more flashes of light and even louder, more disturbing noises, that went on much longer than previously.

The humans watched on with apparently mixed emotions while the puppy lay close up to the older dog and the was in the girl's arms avidly observing the distant event.

Then the girl attempted to communicate directly with the cat through psychic impressions; with a little difficulty she succeeded in informing the feline that old type humans were attempting to destroy distorted ones; that is not just the poor, basic, distorted ones but great monstrous distorted ones. They had attempted to conquer the city with metal clad soldiers, big terrible machines and other tricks but they had failed. With many old human type refugees, they had fled from the city before launching a great attack from the air but even that seemed to be failing. New type human observers, closer to the ruined metropolis, had witnessed great tentacles whipping far up into the sky to destroy even high, fast, moving flying machines.

The attack stopped!

More reports came from other 'new type human observers'. The distorted great enemies were not all destroyed but the survivors greatly weakened by the attack. Very many of the lesser twisted ones had been destroyed and the greater ones could no longer easily harvest their blood, flesh and life energies.

Trouble was that the old type humans had used up many of their valuable resources and has lost far more of the flying machines than they could afford to lose.

The group moved on wards, now travelling away from the city but again hiding during the coming of the next daylight in a house that looked, from the outside, more damaged than it actually was. The girl, the two dogs and the cat slept curled up together on a big old mattress.

The Cat #8

In a hidden bunker complex, beneath an abandoned town with many structures being empty shells from which much had been taken below, the new humans lived, worked and carried out their survival program; they called it survive live thrive meaning the three steps that they would take in future to a healthy thriving civilisation.

The cat explored the chambers in the area where it was settled down with the girl, the dog, some new humans and of course the puppy. The puppy sometimes came with her. Most of the time both canine and feline were with the girl. They sat on her lap or close to her, often sleeping as naps were always important.

Some of the new humans wore strange metallic stuff called 'power armour'. The cat was starting to pick up basic concepts of language, of meanings behind terms, so forth. 'Power armour' made new humans tougher, stronger, harder to hurt. The cat wondered if she could have power armour or if she would bother to wear it; she decided it was too confining.

The cat watched a big new human designed 3Dscreen with special goggles that allowed her to see the images more clearly. There were animals, people, machines, monsters and much more. It was fascinating though cat naps remained important. Thus it was, along with a group of new humans, she watched the city be destroyed by a great expanding sphere of energies; it destroyed the city but not before new humans had taken much from it including lifeforms. The cat was a little overwhelmed by the impressions of what a disintegration bomb was and what it could do.

The cat was more impressed with a wider range of tasty foods that it got to eat. It met other cats, getting on with them better than it would have done in the past; those other cats were 'changed-changing' just as it was but it, somehow, was doing so faster than the others. Sometimes the feline got headaches, thanks to the changes, but the girl was soon giving the cat tasty drinkable stuff that caused the headaches to go away; it also made the cat more sleepy but that just meant getting more valuable cat naps.

Days stretched out to weeks and weeks to months! The puppy was becoming a grown up dog but in this case a grown up puppy. The girl was also growing, of course, was becoming an older girl because she had a few years to go before she became a woman.

The Cat #9

The cat 'paced' high in the sky beside the girl in a dream that was not a dream but something both more and less than one.

Below them, with somehow also all around them, bustled the human world that had existed before the terrible happenings took place. Yet it was no wonderful world, that human one, but one emanating much misery and other dark emotions. Toxins of radiation, chemicals, and others filled the poor world.

Old type humans were erratic, destructive, self destructive and most assumed they were superior to animals and plants though, when it came down to it, they were animals.

Time passed, but did not pass, as the human world raced towards disaster and human scientists continued to play at being god with increasingly dangerous knowledge and technologies.

Never ending free energy, masses of it, was offered by the wonder-towers that rose in major cities around the world. Those that protested, who cried out warning, even just to delay the project, were ignored. The wonder technologies would enable things to be created, freely, from almost nothing.

The wonder-towers were activated and for almost fifteen minutes everything seemed to go well and then, almost as one, they exploded throwing bizarre energies, twisted lifeforms and other 'things' across the world.

On that day the cat had raced to where her beloved little girl was hidden under her bed in fear; the feline did so to try to protect her beloved one.

Then there was the little girl walking with the cat, on the other side of the feline from the new human girl. The cat purred with pleasure when the little girl picked up the feline and hugged her.

The dream-not-dream ended peacefully, sweetly as the cat slipped back into sleep cuddled up with the new human girl, the puppy and the older dog.
