DoctorKaizeld
arrows damage is additive. so if your bow (plus buffs) is 400 and your arrow is 5 then your total will be 405 damage
UhlanB76
I'm, pretty lousy with a bow but it is my favorite playstyle. Initially, I can't hit anything with the bows as configured in vanilla and normal mods, since no aiming sight sometimes in sneak mode. So, I always use the mod 'Scoped Bows' which puts sights on most of them, or you can craft the sights yourself. I use whatever bows I can find until I'm able to get the 'Bound Bow' at Fort Amol (?). That gives you 100 daedric-equivalent arrows whenever you use it as a conjured item. Advantages are you never run out of arrows and you can't lose the bow. The 'Bound Sword' is a very handy sidekick also. If using 'Scoped Bows', the 'Bound Bow' has a very nice one too. There is an interesting technique you can use to improve all related skills. Near the town of Invarstad there is a waterfall you can follow downhill. At the bottom of the hill lives a troll with a semi-cave home. Follow the trail alongside the waterfall and at the bottom sneak across to the other side of the river and up that hillside. At the top of the hill sneak back towards the river and position yourself on the rocks directly opposite the troll's cavern. This is a bit of a long archery shot and the intent is to hit the troll once with each arrow but not to kill it. The longer you stay in the position, the more your skills increase. If you are using a regular bow, bring lots of arrows, any kind works as we only wound him with one. Thus both sneak and archery skills improve because you are really doing both of those consistently. The point is to hit him with an arrow while causing sneak damage then wait for the next one. You can spend a lot of time there getting many increases , or stay a short time and then return later for follow on practice. If using the 'Bound Bow' each time you also get increases to the Conjuration skills.

But you should consider Disable Autoaim mod, I bet it is the reason you are bad at bow is the autoaim in Skyrim. In addition I also use Immersive HUD to dynamically hide crosshair unless I use bow or spell.

Oh yes, I am 99% sure this is what that mod does: game setting adjustment, with the exact adjustments as you mentioned. I am just lazy to put it in my .ini because ... I use Bash Patch that already merges this one. Although for average dumb users, this is the easiest way to do it (especially for console, they can't access .ini can they?) I just have to ask: are you use it is Skyrim.ini and not SkyrimPref.ini? Not doubting you, but all my internet reading, people seem to confuse/mix up the 2 files. I found many setting suggestions to go in Skyrim.ini and suggestions from other sites for the exact same values go to the other .ini. TheWilloughbian
I did the edits in the Skyrim.ini. I'm not sure if you can do the same thing in the SkyrimPref.ini. I never tried it. Also, I didn't think about console users wanting to be rid of auto aim.

Also, I didn't think about console users wanting to be rid of auto aim.Lol true that, with a gamepad, how do they even aim or play FPS? Skyrim auto aim system is supposed to be good. The concept must be a predecessor of VATS. But unlike VATS, Skyrim just lets the projectiles fly without checking for result. VATS literately guides the shot. Autoaim is horrible because the game literately decides the target and the flight path for you, without checking the flight path. There were times I kept shooting at someone, and arrows kept hitting that wall column partially covers the target. For such simple sniping shot of an immovable target, it got to be aggravating.
