xbamorganx
Late to the party on this, but the admin rights warning just started showing up today for the first time ever. Not running as administrator(even checked compatibility tab), uac is on default setting, and went to go boot it up to check on some skyrim mods and boom, admin rights warning. Any suggestions? javic666
I'm new to Vortex and am having some trouble getting started. I do have UAC enabled on my system and am logged into a standard (non-admin) account. When I install Vortex it prompts for admin PW to "make changes" to the system and I comply. When first launched, it tells me I shouldn't run it as administrator. From reading this thread, I know the check is imperfect, so I click "Ignore" and don't see the message again. Then, as an experienced modder but impatient Vortex newbie, I clicked too many things too quickly and screwed things up, quickly getting Vortex into what appeared to be an unrecoverable state. So I decided to uninstall and start over. I uninstalled via "Programs and Features". The program and it's installation folder are removed, but I'm still left with other stuff scattered about my system, notably under "C:\Users\Administrator\AppData" and "C:\<myname>\AppData". When I reinstall Vortex, it's in the same state as before presumably because of these leftovers, so I had to go manually clean up. Now, I'm repeating this saga in this thread only because I'm wondering it there's something about my account set-up that's causing the trouble (i.e., the incomplete uninstall). From what I read here, installing under a standard account with UAC enabled should prompt for admin PW during installation but not show the warning dialogue (about running as administrator) when starting Vortex. But I do see that warning dialog. So is it me?

It's not Vortex that's the problem, the problem is, is you're logged into your computer under a regular user account, so any changes you or vortex is trying to make to the computer, needs the permission of the administrator, which means putting in your admin password and "OKing" the process. Why don't you just do this all under your Admin account instead?
javic666
I understand what you're saying, but is this the reason Vortex doesn't properly clean up after itself when uninstalled, or is that something else? And is it OK that I get the two messages about admin, one when installing and one when running? (I understood from reading this thread that I shouldn't see the second one if installing under a regular account.) Re. your question: I'm very picky about system security. I use my admin account only for true administrative tasks, and playing Fallout doesn't qualify. :-)

RIGHT-CLICK on the Vortex Shortcut.... 2. Select PROPERTIES 3. Click on the COMPATIBILITY tab 4. Look where it says RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, is it checked? If so, click on it to UNCHECK it.
