HeavenNZX
Hey, I am now using Vortex as my main mod manager, and I would like to know(Idk if anyone asked this before, so I'm doing it) if the mods I use and deploy in game's folder uses 2 times the space it would use if I just moved them to the game folder... I'm asking it because I've recently bought a 240 ssd, and Skyrim/fo4 folder can get pretty big.
Tannin42
No, they don't take 2 times the space.Practically every tool will tell you that the mods take up space in the mods directory and the games directory but that's because they can't "see through" the link. Let's say your 240GB SSD has 100GB of applications and games, and 50GB of mods (all deployed). If you let windows explorer or somesuch scan how much disk space is used and free it would tell you you have used 200GB and you have 90GB free - which adds up to 290GB instead of 240GB. The only time you have to worry about this is if you make backups because many backup tools will also not recognize the links and then copy the files twice so in your backup the mods would then actually take up double the space. Hence I'd suggest you "purge" inside vortex before you make a backup and just click deploy when it's done.
adamocelot
Idk if i can wrap my head around the fact it does not use 2 separate folders with the identical mod in it . One the game directory and one in the vortex staging folder . I clearly see two identical files here and windows explorer is not the issue here I can NOT install anything else mod wise because game being roughly 32gb and installing 15gb of mods which hardlinked to 30gb now puts the disk space used at what ? 62gb and yes it filled the reaming 63gb of space i had left , can,t put anything else there ? I physically can't this is no virtual file thing its really there double space being used ..Error after error trying to add more to the drive and it says I am out of space ... IDK since everyone claims its not really there I don't get it

IDK since everyone claims its not really there I don't get it The mod psychically exists in the Mod Staging Folder. They only exist in the Data folder through a LINK, however, Windows reports them as being the same size as the physical mods in the mod staging folder. Think of the Mods in the Data folder, as a picture projection of the actual Mods in the Mod Staging Folder appearing in the Data folder. That's all there is to it. rmm200
If you are interested in what is actually in your game directory, I suggest you read this page and download Findlinks. It comes directly from Microsoft: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/findlinks
