Is it possible to roll back from 1.10.106? Random Crashes.

I know that someone created a "rollback patch" in the past for an ancient version of Fallout 4. Does this still exist? A quick Google/DuckDuckGo search shows almost nothing but scam and pirate sites.

It seems that since the latest patch Fallout 4 randomly crashes with a mod order I've used for a while. I tested my CPU, RAM and video card. I did a fresh install of FO4 along with new config files and new installs of all my mods. I've tried the latest version of any mods that were updated along with the older versions I used. I have selectively disabled any mod or combination I think might be an issue. I started over from a mod-less save except for the unofficial patch and F4SE. I didn't play extensively with only the unofficial patch (and F4SE) enabled but it did not crash while doing so.

All I can say for sure is that the crashes do not start until I have explored some. Generally by the time I have discovered Concord, the museum, Drumlin diner and Red Rocket the game will start randomly crashing immediately after load, after fast travel and while walking. I've noticed that before it starts crashing the countdown timer during sleep will lag severely.

The only thing I can think to try now is an older version of the game.

[Possibly Solved]

It seems to be Beantown Interiors. I've posted a bug report on that mod.

ok let's get started

1) Count yourself extremely lucky that you never crashed before now, you have a decent sized load order and should be using a BASHED PATCH from Wrye

2) for every mod you have disabled, that's a potential crash IF any of those mods over wrote vanilla files, this is very common with mods that add or change textures or meshes

3) have you even checked that load order in Wrye or FO4EDIT? Both of these programs will tell you multiple things about your load order like

  • Any missing master files needed
  • Any files that need their master sorted in FO4EDIT
  • Any files that are loading incorrectly

Lastly, if you EVER removed a mod during that particular play through, that one thing right there is the biggest contributor to crashes, lockups and stuttering ( the more mods removed the worst it gets )

Use my guide and let me know if you need any more help, PLEASE do all of it step by step

I followed the steps. A few mods were reordered by LOOT though nothing was seriously wrong that I could tell. A few mods had load order issues I sorted with FO4Edit per the instructions and I made the Bash patch. It still randomly crashes.

I first turned on god mode, set my level to 50 and assigned perks, then ran and killed my way to Diamond City. I stopped at Hangman's Alley to test scrapping and opening the workshop. No issues occurred there. Later today I reloaded the save just before the vault exit, set the level to 25 (since this is a settlement play through) and started playing. I talked with Codsworth until he pointed me to Concord, looted everything in Sanctuary and the basement in Sanctuary. I did not enter the workshop. Once I reached the bridge a second time to go toward Red Rocket the game crashed to desktop.

I'd like to the previous version before I go into mods one by one. None should conflict to my knowledge and I have tested the game without some of the major ones enabled. I guess I have to do some serious troubleshooting work to have fun! x-x. That or just accept I've beaten the game several times already and played enough!

Thanks for pointing me to the walk through though! It did fix some item naming issues.

there are only 2 things i can think of that would still be causing your game to crash

1) 2 mods are conflicting

2) one of the mods you installed did not install correctly - IE: missing mesh or texture files, this can often be caused by a corrupted download of the mod, all it takes believe it or not, is a damn bird or squirrel to be running on or flying into the phone line that goes from the pole to your house. I'm not saying the file got corrupted that way, just saying that could cause it.

How are you installing these mods? With a mod manager or manually? if with a mod manager, uninstall the mods one by one and each time right click the mod then choose delete, then re-install each one

If manually, you will have to re-download EVERY mod and then install them again, but i sincerely doubt you did it manually simply because every web browser right before the file completes, verifies each file, THEN finishes it

Personally I keep a mod "Library" of every mod i've ever used, and this has saved me a LOT of pain and hassle since some of the mods I use haven been taken down from Nexus for one reason or the other

I downloaded the zips and put the contents in the Data folder with the sub-dirs as they should be. Then I use NMM to sort and activate/deactivate mods. I do pay attention to dependency warnings in NMM. Right now I'm working on a "clean" install with each mod newly downloaded. It crashed before and after all that.

The reason I'm looking to roll back is that I didn't get CTD until recently: Since the latest patch. I'll update if I find the cause.

you should be using NMM to install the mods simply because if you have to uninstall them, NMM remember what files that mod installed, where as manual it's just an raw over write
