Akulakha
So I would very much like to get into the gaming industry. I have been thinking about it and I really do enjoy the coding, the modding and I would very much like to be part of the team that brings the next big 'open-world fantasy rpg' like skyrim to the world for everyone to enjoy. However, I've been debating with myself whether or not it's too late for me at this point. Currently, I'm twenty seven years old and still living in my parents house. I'm going to be hitting twenty eight in a few months and I've been having financial difficulties and unfortunately, the town I'm in only has one form of gaming degree at the local college and it's not even an associate degree. I'm thinking about saving money, possibly for a few years and then possibly move to Orlando, Florida and get training over at the Full Sail College there. Do you guys think age thirty is around too late or too old to become a game designer? I know of some people who started at age 19 in their game career and, to my regret, I never had that opportunity. I haven't made a game before but I've been playing them all my life starting with when the very first halo game came out on the regular xbox. xvdoc
No, age around 30s is still young.... depending on the society and/or your future employer-company perceptive view. If gaming/coding/modding is(are) your passion and you wants to make a career out of it. Just do it.
HeyYou
Never too late. I changed careers in my mid 30's. Worked out fine for me. (other issues just kinda put a damper on my goals. :) )
WakahisaSensei
As someone whose been in a field they don't like (and someone in a similar position/age) I recommend you go for it if you can. The last thing you want is a job you don't care about, or worse, resent (as is my current predicament).
RangerDelk
I'd recommend staying away from Full Sail, though. I considered it as an option at one point, but after reading reviews and researching more information about it, it didn't seem like a good place. I agree with the others, it's never too late for a change. I'm 31 and still trying to find my ideal career, and I have met people in their 50's, 60's, and 70's that are going back to school for a new career. Just make sure you do a lot of research before choosing a school.
