SuralArgonus
I appreciate the ideas and work that went into Vortex, I really do.However after using Vortex for a bit, I found that it just wasn't for me at this point. Perhaps in the future I might try it again. I will stick to NMM for a while longer. The following is why.The category view is comfortable on NMM. It makes everything simple and easy to sort at a glance. What you have installed and what isn't installed. What ever is in Vortex...isn't comfortable. It's cumbersome at best. Currently when I download a mod with Vortex, I am not guaranteed that it will install and activate properly with Vortex. So far out of the 70 some mods I tried with Fallout New Vegas, I had to go back and manually install about 50 or 60 of them to make them work because Vortex did not properly install them or even install them at all. Some of the mods it just claimed to install, but just made them disappear completely. When I first installed Vortex, it complained about Admin Rights. I am on a full admin rights profile. It tried to tell me that I shouldn't install it with full admin rights. This is silly and made very little sense. Also I don't like installing programs to my C:\ drive by default. Losing auto update capability is not a good sign in the coding department. All in all, it does seem to be a good start, but it has a long way to go before it's even remotely as stable or usable as Mod Organizer (which I always hated) or Nexus Mod Manager.Good luck with it and I will check it out again in a few more updates. Grestorn
Mods are not disappearing. They're no longer displayed on the download tab after you've installed them. They're in the mod tab instead. Installing mods manually is a very bad idea when working with Vortex. And it's never necessary. The only thing I could imagine is that the archive of a mod has the wrong structure. But then NMM would have the same problem. In rare cases there could be a problem with a malformed FOMOD installer, which Vortex might not work correctly with. But that's nowhere near the amount of problematic mods you've got. I don't know what you did, but you went the wrong way at some point. It's hard to tell what exactly went wrong from your message, though. It's a bit sad that there's just no way of showing you how to do this properly and which of your assumptions were simply wrong. Oh well... By the way, you can also filter the mod list for categories, just like in NMM.
SuralArgonus
I installed the very same mods via NMM and they worked perfectly previously. This time when I say "disappear" I mean they don't show up under the mods heading after downloading regardless of installing or even under plugins. They just disappear. The only way I can get the mods to properly work is to manually install them. Sometimes after doing that they finally appear and I can force them to deploy...but overall at this point in the development I just think it has a lot of work to do yet. Not saying I hate it. Just saying I am going to use something I know I can get to work consistently for now
Grestorn
Unless you click on "Install", downloaded mods won't show up at all under Mods. Look into "Downloads", there you'll find all mods you haven't installed yet. There's a small notification window on the top right, that pops up after the download is completed. If you answer that with "Install", then and only then the mod is installed automatically. If you don't do that, you'll have to find it in "Downloads" and install it from there. I guess you never looked into the Download tab, did you? By the way, since you installed many mods manually, the installation is basically screwed up. Because manually installed mods cannot be handled correctly by any mod manager. Best to scrap the whole installation and start from scratch. Never ever install a mod manually. The only exception is SKSE and maybe an ENB mod.
SuralArgonus
You aren't getting it. Maybe I am not explaining it. So.e of the mods that I download from the Nexus...start to download...say they complete. Disappear from downloads (like they should I assume) and then the only place they appear is in Notification tab. I click to install. Says they install. After that. Nothing. I go to Mods. Nowhere. Plugins. Nothing. Check the categories where the mod is SUPPOSED to be because i have used these mods for a long time...nothing. nowhere. Mod has disappeared. Gone. Vanished. It is nowhere. Like I never downloaded it or tried to install it. The only place it exists is physically in the downloads folder where it stores all the zip/rar files but Vortex won't show it
Grestorn
No, they should NOT disappear from the download tab, UNLESS you've clicked "install" (either in the notification window or the list of downloads). I've been using Vortex for months now, and not even once has a mod disappeared like you describe. Are you sure you don't have an active display filter in the Mods tab? Like a selected category or any other filter? Sounds like it. Make sure that you disable all filters by clicking this (marked in red):
SuralArgonus
Havent done anything like that. Not sure what is causing it. Like I said. I dont hate it. I can see the potential in Vortex. I probably will use it in the future. Betting part of the problem is the age of the mods. They weren't designed to be installed the way Vortex wants to handle things. Hehe. NMM had problems with the way some modders did their formatting too Which is why I usually end up manually installing most mods anyway
Grestorn
No, there's a different problem. If a mod is "too old", then it still will be displayed. The worst thing that could happen (besides error messages) is that the files are put in the wrong place when activating the mod. And you say "you didn't do anything like that". Like what? You said yourself that you were looking for categories, so you HAVE activated a filter, haven't you? Do you see that orange message bar I've marked? If you do, then there's a filter active and you have to disable it to see all mods. If I'm just not getting your problem, I suggest that you record your steps which leads to a mod disappearing and put that recording up on YouTube, so we can follow what's happening. If there's really a bug, the developers need to know it. If it's you who's doing something wrong, then I'd like to help you getting it right. HadToRegister
Maybe you accidentally have the Enabled/Disabled/Uninstalled Filter activated. On the MODS tab, check the STATUS Filter, does the box say "Select..." or does it say "ENABLED" or UNINSTALLED? If it says one of those, click the little x next to the drop-down arrow so that the box shows "Select..." do the same on the PLUGINS tab.
SuralArgonus
This is what I see when I look at the main screen. Also it double installed a mod somehow, I just noticed that. I need to address that real quick as well. Not quite sure how that happened exactly...I had to manually install several of those mods to get Vortex to even acknowledge those even existed. When I first tried to install, they didn't even show up. Also Fallout Character Overhaul, when installed, it won't install properly. I had to install that one manually as well. It wouldn't deploy, and it didn't even show up on the list after I downloaded it. Certain NPCs are missing their heads (Missing texture error)I NEVER had this issue when using NMM or even manually installing. So therefore, I am just going to go back to NMM and uninstall all the mods and reinstall using NMM for now.Category is (and has been empty, I wasn't making that mistake)For the record, I appreciate trying to help, not getting angry or anything here. :DAnd really want to make it abundantly clear...I don't dislike Vortex. I just am gonna come back to it in a few updates. :D
