HadToRegister
Um, why not? It's actually the place MS has prepared for that purpose... But for Vortex, you have to create a subdirectory there, so you can use that path for your Vortex downloads. Like C:\Users\<username>\Downloads\Vortex He wants to put it in C:\ProgramData\Vortex\DownloadsNot C:\ProgramFilesor C:\<username>\Downloads
Grestorn
He said "Downloads in the sidebar", and he's talking about the file explorer, isn't he? And that would be the one in the user profile.
BolognaSandwitch
ok, 1st of all the program data thing is the folder thing is the one it keeps defaulting to when i try to install, dont know whats in there but i figure if i don't know what it does its likely best not to screw around with it lol so i knew better than to put ANYTHING there. also i FINALLY figured this whole mess out & placed the folder here "F:\EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE\My Documents\Vortex" i like to have as much as possible on my external hard drive as possible in case my pc goes SOL lol. at any rate i can't thank you guys enough for helping me figure this out :D now i just need to figure out vortex itself lol but at least there's the migrating to vortex page lol :D----------Edit: turns out vortex didnt like my documents folder, after rewatching gophers videos i placed the vortex folder in my games folder & everything was awesome then. really wish vortex did this kind of thing of thing at install to idiot proof itself for people like me, but w/e, at least i got it working lol.

Look at the address bar of his 3rd screenshot C:\ProgramData\Vortex You're right, but that's NOT the download folder in the left sidebar in Explorer... a bit confusing what he did. Nevermind, no point in fighting over this... :)
BolognaSandwitch
what do you mean what i did? you mean where i installed it? i didnt change the install location & atm am STILL fighting mods to not install install in the programdata folder god god i wish i knew why vortex loved that folder so much, gonna reinstall & see if it wanted it install there or something & didnt notice thats starting to drive me nuts.--------Edit: nope, its just in love with the programdata folder & i seem to be unable to do ANYTHING about it :wallbash:
Grestorn
Maybe you try the same I asked the other guy. Close Vortex and reset its config. Then start from scratch. To delete Vortex config, just completely delete the directory. Oh, before you do that, make sure that all mods are "removed" if you ever had installed any. C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Vortex. Then start from scratch.
BolognaSandwitch
oh right, lol, totally forgot about this, so VERY sorry :( after going through gophers videos & the comments posted here i was able to figure everything out. have spent the last few hours moving several games/ mods to vortex although the mod path STILL keeps wanting to put it in program data for some weird reason & i have to tell it to hardline, but so long as i remember as i remember to change that path at least i assume ill be ok. maybe an update will fix it eventually till then its annoying but ill learn to live with it i guess lol
HadToRegister
For you, (if you haven't already) you should probably roll back to 0.16.08 version of Vortex. Some people are having serious problems with 0.16.10 for some unknown reason, while others have it working just fine.
