PslytelyPsycho
Ok, I'm not a noob, I've used NMM and SKSE for years with no issues beyond a horrible mod addiction. (mod it till it crashes then add one more....lol.) I installed skse per the readme in the main SkyrimSE folder (2 dll's, 1 exe, Data\scripts\pex files I made the 'mod' per the instructions in Vortex (upper folder 2 dll's, 1 exe, Data\scripts\pex files and deleted the superfluous file. It didn't work, read on the forums I needed to set target and start pointers. Target is: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\skse64_loader.exe Start in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition\data Read some more, realized I missed a step.Set the following: Mod name: skse64_loader (also tried skse64 and skse64_loader.exe) I get a white box with no green check mark, I feel certain this is my problem but I don't know why. Version: 2.0.10 and I get a green check mark. Mod type: dinput Enabled. It doesn't work and crashes the game on the title screen. Setting it to primary makes both launchers crash after title screen. Sort of works launching from skse64_loader.exe (but gives me a permissions warnings but loads MCM menus) administrator permissions are given to skse launcher, skyrimse launcher and exe, and data folder is set for read/write. Also my controller refuses to work and not all keyboard commands work, but it does boot the game and load mods. I have not tried running my NMM version, I was taking the opportunity of building a new Skyrim with a fresh install and decided to give Vortex a whirl. I generally like it better but there is a learning curve and it's a bit under-documented at the moment as I had to read many threads to get this far and I'm sure I borked it all up at some point. So, what did I screw up, miss or not understand? Thanks in advance. Just ask if you need additional information. *edit* I've been using Vortex for a few days, got my mods working well (save for the skse mods) and profiles figured out. Didn't start to have problems till I tried to finish it off with skse.
HadToRegister
Start in: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition Just manually install SKSE by extracting the zip to your SSE folder. The instructions are right in the zip filePlus, I have no clue what you mean by "Green Check Mark" and Mod type: Dinput What are you doing? skse64_loader.exe and the dlls should be in the same directory as your SkyrimLauncher.exe and SkyrimSE.exe
AugustaCalidia
@PslytelyPsycho. If you follow HadToRegisters' instructions, you should have no problem with SKSE64. Are you trying to install SKSE64 with Vortex? I ask because toward the middle of your post you speak of the mod as "enabled." If you're trying to install with Vortex, then that's why it's not working for you. As HadToRegister has pointed out, SKSE64 needs to be manually installed per the instructions in the SKSE64 ReadMe. PslytelyPsycho
Thank you. Yes, I followed the instructions regarding SKSE in the support section of Vortex itself.I understand beta, so I half expected it might be SKSE trying to run from two directories, I tried it without the main file and only the vortex install and it failed to load even the splash screen, but I never thought about trying it without the vortex mod enabled as I had gotten that information directly from vortex itself. I played KSP in alpha for over four years, so I don't get upset when things don't work, it's usually my fault anyway! Severe mod addiction syndrome. No, I am not interested in a cure. Only stability, well semi-stable, ok, playable for fifteen minutes at a stretch...what new mod, ooooh I must try it .....crash.....crash......crash.... Thanks for the rapid response. PslytelyPsycho
@HadToRegister, Thank you. Those instructions are from the support section of vortex itself. Apparently, and this is a guess, it is an unimplemented method of installing SKSE. Thanks. *edit: They are from Support-Tool setup-Script Extenders in Vortex .The other is from clicking the three dots on the right of the SKSE64 launcher in Vortex. That information came from a thread somewhere in this forum that gave me the impression it was a missing instruction in the Vortex tooltip. Would be cool if it worked. Unfortunately rather than installing SKSE first I read the instructions in Vortex first.I never read the damned instructions. No wonder I had problems. It's not clear from the above post if that's the case. If you did get it to work, did you manually install SKSE64, or did you install with Vortex per the support instructions? The installation method described in the Vortex support section should achieve the same results as manual installation, if properly implemented. However, I see a bit of ambiguity in the instructions and worry that a script extender novice might wind up placing all script extender elements in the newly minted data folder. If that were the case, SKSE64 or any of the other script extenders would not work.
PslytelyPsycho
Update:All is good in the land of ice and snow. I disabled the vortex 'mod' of SKSE,Renamed SKSE launcher to Skyrims exe.returned all permissions to normal from elevated (yeah!!)use the normal launch in vortex.Runs perfect, I get a single warning of wearable lanterns not being able to read or write to data/SKSE or something close. Random crash seems to be gone or at least under control. I suspected it was an activated SKSE mod running without SKSE.Thank you everyone, Vortex is a bit different than NMM that I've used for years, so thanks for guiding my ham fisted attempt at learning a new installer. I am in your debt.Peace out! *edit:Augusta Calida: Yeah, the vortex installation puts SKSE in an odd (to me it seems) location that doesn't appear to work correctly. I've used script extenders and ENB's for years on multiple games, so yeah there is some ambiguity to the instructions, I borked it up somehow. The manual installation and renaming the files worked like a charm. Should of done it that way from the start but dammit, I read the instructions. Bad move.
