salawow
Hi I currently play Oldrim heavily modded and (almost) fully stable. However, i'm building a new computer next week (going from a i5-4590, GTX970, 8GB RAM to a Ryzen 2700x, RTX2070, 16GB ram). Since i'll probably be tempted to modify my load order and install more mods that are more heavy on performances, i'm pondering the idea of completely moving from Oldrim to SSE. Now that more and more mods are getting ported to SSE, the idea is tempting. But rebuilding a load order from scratch is quite painful. Do you think moving from Oldrim to SSE worth all the trouble ? What are the benefits of SSE exactly ? What am i missing if i choose to stay in Oldrim ? Thanks Edited November 4, 2018 by salawow
MalachiDelacot
Mostly just better graphics run on 64 bit instead of 32.Same game. My opinion:You can put a tuxedo on a goat, but no matter howgood it looks, it's still a goat....
HadToRegister
YES >>What are the benefits of SSE exactly ?SSE is 64 bit, so it can access all of your system memoryBetter graphics without the need for mods, which frees up your load order for other types of mods. >>What am i missing if i choose to stay in Oldrim ?Better graphics without mods, and less crashes, more stable gameplay with 64 bit etc.
Daermonster
Thats the opinion you will usually find as voiced by malachi. He speaks the general consensus but opinions aside, SSE's stability is beyond anything oldrim could ever offer. The caveat is the headache of literally useless and constant updates from the creation club being forced on pc users. This renders most mods using skse unusable every 2 months or so. its heresy I say!

That's why he should install...SkyrimSE.exe Auto-Backup Which automatically backs up your SkyrimeSE exe when Skyrim updates, so you can restore it and keep playing with SKSE64, and all the mods that require it, until SKSE64 and all the mods that require it get updated. Daermonster
.... you may have just saved a life... my blood pressure has been causing migraine up the ass usually onset by skse f*#@ing up my game lol... youre better than meditation lol
SeraphimKensai
Either that or you set Skyrim see in steam to only update when opened. Launch the game with SKSE64 and then there's never a need to update.
Novem99
Better graphics without the need for mods, which frees up your load order for other types of mods. So you wanna try to say that the vanilla graphics/textures of the Special Edition are as good as all the HD texture mods available here? Really?! Please tell me you are just kidding. @salawow: I really can't see that more and more Oldrim mods get ported to SSE. A lot of Oldrim ports are not ported and it's doubtful that they will be ported some day. So in my opinion if you really know how to keep Oldrim stable with tools like ENBoost and the SKSE Memory Patch while having tons of mods I would NOT go for the Special Edition. The only reason I would probably consider switching are mods like Beyond Skyrim that supposedly will be SE exklusive in the future. Algabar
@salawow: I really can't see that more and more Oldrim mods get ported to SSE. A lot of Oldrim ports are not ported and it's doubtful that they will be ported some day. A question of perspective and of your personal interests. Regarding numbers, your statement is true: There are still much more mods for "Oldrim" than for SE. It's also true, that a lot of mods, whose authors have left the Skkyrim modding scene long ago, probably will never get ported officially. On the other hand, the tools for porting most mods yourself (OFC for personal use only) ARE there. And it really isn't that hard. There are tons of tutorials on porting mods from "Oldrim" to SE. And I'd say most mods CAN be ported by us end-users. The only time we're really out of luck is when mods are heavily scripted and rely on .dll files. These need to be recompiled and adjusted, which is next to impossible without proper programming skills and access to the original source code... OFC it's a matter of personal taste, but at least for my "gaming needs", everything I want IS actually available for SE: We got lots of armours and weapons. We got followers and the frameworks to manage them. We got SkyUI and MCM for quality of life. We got tons of player houses. We also got outstanding texture replacers for almost everything. In fact, IMHO some of them are even better than the alternatives we had in "Oldrim" (which BTW are often usable in SE). We also got (and still are getting) great looking ENBs.From my perscpective, the only field where SE is really "behind", is the kind of mods you'd find on sites like Loverslab. If you want that kind of mods, stay with "Oldrim". If you simply want a great looking adventure game with additional quests, new lands etc., SE IMHO is the way to go. Almost all texture mods that are released for the SE are usable for Oldrim as well btw. So SkyUI and SKSE fully work for the SE?
