Should Cultural Icons Be Off- limits to Mod Authors?

Cultural icons are used in mods some times and are enjoyed by the people who download and use it like an american Indian headdress, or a certain kind of tattoo, or Viking axe, or a Spanish bull fighter, etc. However, some groups of people may decide that the use of what they consider is "their" cultural icons is offensive to them and ask or demand that the mod author remove it from their mod. Should the mod author comply? Should mod authors- and artists for that matter- be allowed to use what could be considered cultural icons at all so as not to offend anyone? And who would decide what is a cultural icon or not?

depends on the mod author's resistance and how strongly that the people complain, really. I doubt a single unknown person/troll (or any newly registered users) who complain about it will cause the mod author comply to the wishes of some unknown troll... eh person.

If sufficient amount of people who complains and staff or moderation team involved into it, the mod author probably will have to remove it whether the mod author like it or not.

As far as my understanding of how things work around here, once moderators have reviewed a mod and given it the green light- then it is good to go as far as they're concerned. I've never heard of any mod being reviewed later on by a moderator a second time unless they're checking an update or something. I would hope that anything an artist might do with their mod that is considered "legal" or falls within the rules here would be supported by Nexus staff and not be subject to any hidden "good tastes" clause or something where it would be a judgement based purely on personal opinion- whether it be one person's opinion or a thousand's.

People should come here with the understanding that they are allowed to download and use whatever is being offered FOR FREE!!! This means that you have no recourse whatsoever about what a mod author does with their mod. You can have an opinion, sure..... and that opinion might be shared by others here. But, it -in no way, shape or form- means that you can force a mod author to make changes to their mod that is otherwise perfectly within the rules.

I might add that should anything resembling the scenario that you outlined occur- half of the mods on this site would (probably) be hidden and/or deleted eventually as a result.

Edit; Well, it appears that I'm wrong and that this site does indeed reserve the right to demand changes to a mod or remove it if the contents of said mod are found to be blatantly, intentionally provocative, etc.

I would ask that a moderator or staff clarify this further for anyone concerned.

It sounds like all of Hollywood movies using European history as they see it fitting - well, sure they have no legal problems, but still people will complain about it

That leads to another one - what about fictional cultural sacred icons - like an Alliens movie with lore considered "sacred" to fans and cause them to complain about misusing of that? Maybe it feels more important to some people than the real history.

I wonder if you would like https://www.amazon.com/Winnetou-Karl-Friedrich-May/dp/087422179X - european pure fiction about american indians :) my favourite book btw and the source of excitement of many Europeans for American indians :)

And I was wondering if Fallout 4 Boston is similar to real Boston and I thought Minutemen were actually quite the same - defenders of settlers? But I guess that was hypothetical.

But with mods - so many of them can be considered "offending" to someone, so I guess they just leave it unless it is illegal.

It really doesn't seem to matter any more today, it simply doesn't make any difference WHAT you do, you are likely to find someone that finds it 'offensive'........ Personally, I think we surpassed the 'stupid' levels of sensitivity several years ago. :D

Clearly we did not surpass the levels of stupid sensitivity.

If we now have a sensitive reaction , to others who appear to be sensitive.

I am not understanding what you are trying to say there......

When we have folks that are making their careers into 'professional take-offenser' (yeah, I know, not a word....) we have a problem.

it was a mention that I guess you missed.

Thats ok that you missed it.

After reading a lot of your stuff ... I find you abrasive.

But at the same time ... I find agreement with what you say.

Why is that ?

Well, I gotta admit, in some of the threads in here, I very likely HAVE been abrasive. :) That does not, however, invalidate my opinions/positions on various subjects. Also, I have never claimed to be 'politically correct', I find the whole concept offensive. :D Can I be a real *richard* sometimes? You bet. For the most part though, I am actually pretty easy to get along with, just, opinionated, and not afraid to state my views, regardless of how 'politically INcorrect' they may be.

It goes back to the whole: "If you ask a question your don't think your going to like the answer to, EXPECT an answer that you don't like." :D It never ceases to amaze me that people will ask me a question on some controversial topic or other, and then get mad at ME when my answer doesn't suit their world view. In this section..... Yeah, there are some topics I should likely just stay out of..... But, I have never claimed to be wise either. :D
