The Nexus used to be about the mods.

Now, to judge by the use of screen real estate on the front page, and to judge by the attitude that this has been pushed out with; Social Networking is the MOST important thing for the Nexus to be doing. Mods are now a sidebar, a tangent, a lure to the real important work of the Nexus becoming the next Facebook. I guess Social Networking sites have higher ad rates than user-interest sites.

Otherwise, I'm having a hard time imagining why Dark0ne would be so unfriendly and closed-minded about all this. He must be motivated by something other than the mods.

Quite literally just look at the new home page, Hot Files, New Files and Latest Images now take up less than a third of the page. I joined the Nexus not a social network. Mods should be the first the you see.

Swap the columns give the mods the majority of the page and put the social c**p to the side

I despise the new look of the front page. It's like this site isn't even about the mods anymore. I don't mean to sound like a jerk or anything, but people come on this site to look for mods, not this "Facebook" crap. The original look was fine I don't know why it had to be changed.

As web developer, I would say - You do right thing. Don't mind others by they're judging "we don't need facebook".

I don't mean to change profile to total social-network, but by deep look - all is in right place.

And people - sidebar ISN'T "nothing special". Sidebars is most imoprtant part in every UI, as it contains EVERYTHING by any means. Menus, Mini-News, Topics, Categories, Callendar, Feeds, Images and a'lot of other adds (Yes, advertisements too, but, well, Do You ever got payd for what You do? So, why advertisement must be bad?)

So - My only criticism woul'd be 'bout slider - It's still up, when shortcuts to theme images is in sidebar... it's not right. I sugest You reconsider that one. If you wan't slider anyway - try put topics with images (or without them) near slider or accordeon type slider. Like in moddb (or indiedb, doesn't matter), right in place, where they put advertisement in top of sidebar. That should work.

Not overly keen on the new look I am afraid.

I think first and foremost, that most people come here looking for mods. I would also hazard a guess that the vast majority of users do not comment, just grab the mods that interest them, and leave. I cannot see that type of user ever participating in any type networking feature. The front page just looks confused now, and yes, the mods are still there, but the design kind of makes them feel them relegated, as it were, to the sidelines. As a web developer, I always use the side bars for 'secondary' content and navigation.

I too am not at all interested in facebook. however, i do appreciate the idea of folks sharing what mods they like. as i read the update, i think it would be a good idea to share that information. i have found so many great mods but "it ain't easy" finding the gems. it takes a lot of combing through. the new layout for me is good and very useful. but indeed, there are a lot of mods that need exposure, and the best way i see to do that is to put them on youtube with the link(s) back to the nexus showing.

what distresses me more than anything else here is seeing so much talent booted off for being bad boys or whatever the schoolmarm monitors spank them for. how about just sending them to timeout and then inviting them back to play nicely? there are phenomenally good mods missing that were here once upon a time and i for one would certainly welcome their return.

Do. Not. Like.

I don't have a Facebook account and never will and i'm not interested in those type of features on the Nexus. This is a mod site, not a place where people should be overly concerned with making friends or networking. Sure, friends are made anyway and that's fine but i don't need these features shoved on me at the cost of a truncated and (once again) squashed front page. I know that with this new style i am going to miss news i wouldn't have normally missed. I'm not interested in having to click a link to "read more" of the article just because so much of the front page space has been taken away.

I also have a problem with the latest files section and the new addition of "*insert name here* uploaded a new mod". It's very redundant. Also, moving the hot, latest files and images section over to the side is not good. All you've managed to accomplish is waste even more space on the front page. Like it wasn't squished enough already... I hope i can find something good about this new style but for right now it's 2 steps back IMO. Actually no, two steps back would bring us back to the old-old style that a lot of people loved where the whole webpage was used and everything wasn't jammed into the middle of the screen like a million other websites out there that made the same mistake (imo).

I'm sorry that this is coming out so harsh but i've been a part of websites that have made the "social networking/facebookification" shift and it always ends up badly. Bad in the way that useful features are ALWAYS lost or tinkered with at the expense of trying to be a Facebook-like experience. And it always fails to live up to the hype.

I wish someone would take a poll of which of the 3 versions (i've only seen 3) of the Nexus they preferred. Not that it would change anything, but it would be a fun thing to do.

P.S. I'm desperately praying to God that i find something good about the changes.
