JimAbaddon
Today I attempted to go from NMM to Vortex. It didn't go well, simply put. Vortex caused me some trouble early on when it proceeded to install everything on my C drive which isn't the one I use for games etc and it didn't have enough space for that. Minor problem, but it did unfortunately mark what was to come. I dragged all my mod archive files for Skyrim SE to Vortex (the guide I followed recommended I didn't import them so I decided not to) and even though everything looked fine from there, problems started when I began activating the mods. Pretty soon, there were conflicts everywhere, as is to be expected, but whereas NMM would simply ask me to overwrite files when activating them, I wasn't sure what to do in Vortex's case. I figured all conflicts would be resolved once I used LOOT to fix the load order but Vortex remained much the same for some reason. The sorting tool it uses itself didn't do much either and so I ended up being unable to run Skyrim SE without it crashing. Long story short, I decided to return to NMM for now and to my relief everything worked there. Not sure what was the problem, maybe I made some rookie mistake in handling Vortex or something, but just to be safe I'll stick with NMM for the time being. rmm200
Just a little note: When you install an application like Adobe Photoshop, it goes to your C drive. That does not mean all your pictures do to.Just because you install Vortex to the C drive (it is not huge) does not mean you should also install your games and mods there too.No one recommends that, and it is absolutely not OK to put them in the Programs tree.Install locations for those, and Downloads, are all customizable within Vortex. JimAbaddon
Sorry but I'm not willing to bother with Vortex if I have to do all the sorting myself. I don't know how to, I'm not that savvy with mods and how they interact with each other, this is why I use LOOT. If Vortex can't work along with LOOT then I prefer to stay with NMM. I know that mods that update each other must be placed in the appropriate order, but that didn't seem to be the problem today, there were conflicts I had never noticed with NMM. Thanks for showing me the custom install location though, I missed it because I got Vortex from elsewhere in the nexusmods website.
rmm200
Another little note: Vortex calls Loot internally. Plugin load order is set by the Loot you don't see.Mod files other than the plugins (esm, esp) are checked by Vortex for which individual files conflict. It does a much better job than NMM.Unless you have a really weird mod list, there should not be a lot of conflicts. Do you have a lot of texture mods?It would have helped if you had posted a screenshot of your conflicts.Help is readily available here for people who actually want it. For those that just want to rant (not you) - not so much.
JimAbaddon
The biggest issue with my mod list, is that I have retained some Oldrim mods who are still compatible with SE, notably the Book of Silence series, because even though I downloaded mods that affected much of the world around the game, there were some small things that the BoS series still made better looking. Admittedly, I have used an ENB series to make the game overall better looking since then so the BoS may be obsolete at this point. I remember many of the conflicts were caused by that so removing it entirely could help. As for the conflicts: I made an effort to resolve them myself with Vortex's conflict menu, yet even after that not all issues where fixed. I'm still not sure how LOOT works with Vortex because, even though upon installation, Vortex was able to recognize some tools like SKSE64 on its own, I had to direct it to where LOOT was installed. Even after I applied LOOT's recommended order, the one shown in Vortex's menu remained the same. At best, I'll try making the jump to Vortex again but in a later date, I had enough of mod fiddling for one day. I'll make a note to try and disable the Book of Silence mods and see if anything changes; with ENB presets enabled in the game, they probably don't make much of a difference. rmm200
One last try here: Don't install Loot on the Dashboard, don't tell Vortex where Loot is - and don't run Loot from the Dashboard.Vortex maintains it's own copy of Loot. Trying to apply anything a Loot that you run does will not turn out well.

But I won't be using LOOT from Vortex ever, I use it from my desktop shortcut.

Vortex already HAS LOOT BUILT IN.I was just showing ALL of the other options you have for sorting when Vortex reports a conflict. If you're not even going to be arsed with solving conflicts, then go back to NMM and be completely unaware of Conflicts.I've wasted enough time trying to help you. Grestorn
You never need to start LOOT. Vortex sorts the plugins itself, and it uses an integrated version of LOOT to do that.
