The future of the Fallout 4 scene.

Such a long-winded post for a mod request XD

Anyway, I'm more of an open world gamer than an RPG player, so I prefer mods that add or improve eco systems than story quests, and there's plenty of survival simulation mods for me to try out so, to me, FO4 modding is alive and well.

Hi, genuinely curious - and am no modder (obviously)

Given the negative reaction to Fallout 76 launch, do you think it will be possible for Fallout 4 scene to become reinvigorated?

Or will the new challenge be to try and mod Fallout 76 regardless?

I can see parts of one becoming part of the other... although I suspect TTW would be pushing it, ;).

But seriously, I've enjoyed all Fallout games, and all have benefited greatly from modding love.

So if nothing else, thanks!

[PS: My personal love is for the 1987 game Dungeon Master, so no game ever truly dies while there are dedicated fans carrying the torch...]

Fallout 4 is alive and well. And so is modding for it. New mods are showing up on Nexus every day. If anything - there might be a slow down because the streamers and players are having their hand at FO 76. Afterwhich I expect most to come back to FO 4. FO 4 is what you make it, not what it gives you. If your going into the same ol' places and hearing the same ol' stuff and your getting bored - your not doing it right. If your not using your imagination and being creative as this game allows then you should move on - but don't impose your negative take onto others as if it is fact when everything about your post is your opinion only - nothing more.

FO4 modding doesn't need re-invigoration because it's always done fine.

Bethesda isn't in any rush to push out the mod tools for FO76, but that's the norm for them. They did the same tools delay with Skyrim and FO4 also. Not sure if the same was done with FO3, that was a long time ago.

That sounds very positive - apologies if my words caused offence - as I'm a stranger here.

FO4 for me was a disappointment, but the mods really made it fun and enjoyable - and yes, FO76 feels similar.

So thanks again to the modding community - just sorry I've not said it before.

In fairness to the "FO4 modding scene is dead" sentiment, in the "Popular (30 Days)" section, 16 of the top 20 are currently either skimpy outfit, face preset, or sex related. Praise be to those, but it's not everyone's cup of tea. A one-month trend, coinciding with the release of FO76, doesn't imply a permanent shift though.

Fallout 4 is only 3 years old. When Skyrim was the same age, top mods like Immersive Citizens, Relationship Dialogue Overhaul, Campfire, Obsidian Weathers, Vivid Weathers, Bijin NPC’s, XPMSE, KS Hairdoos, Enderal, Beyond Skyrim - Bruma, etc. didn't exist yet.

A new Fallout single player game is probably another 6 to 9 years off, if we're to believe Pete Hines. FO4 isn't going anywhere. Some FO4 modders may be choosing not to release their innovations right around FO76 launch, but that will change. Many of the top mods, 5 years from now, are yet to come. If you factor in and assume completion of projects like Fallout Miami, Cascadia, as well as other quest and new land mods that are actively being worked on, not even half of the playable content that will ultimately be available in this game has been released yet.

I think there is still plenty of scope for using the Fallout 4 base for good storytelling as well as other interesting mods. Indeed with mods like SimSettlements and other Quest/Land mods there are actually good examples of some really good stuff being put together and held together even now. - in fact I've some of the most recent mods are also some of the strongest and well produced. Yes, there are still a lot of retextures and sloot-suits out there, but even the quality of these has improved while at the same time much more ambitious projects have already been implemented.

Indeed looking at the complexity and polish of some of mods like this it is not unimaginable that somebody could indeed repurpose the Fallout 4 framework and actually build an entirely different themed game. - The existing game assets themselves would lend themselves quite well to a Blade runner theme - which would in fact also fit quite nicely in with the certain aspects of the main game and certain DLC
