Kazigithani
So I understand the obviousness of "the destination folder has to be empty" but the folder has a bunch of files in it that seem like they are core game and DLC base files. If I try to make my mod staging folder the Data folder (steam/steamapps/common/Fallout 4/Data), as I believe I am supposed to, is it safe to delete the already existing files or should I be adding another folder in the Data folder or making my mod staging folder somewhere else? Any help is appreciated. Thanks much.

My Mod Staging Folder is like this "D:\Games\Mods\" My Mod Download is "D:\Games\Vortex Downloads" Never never never make your Mod Staging Folder the Data folder of your games. RussDodson
After reinstall and upgrade of Vortex how do I force Vortex to recognize and use the old staging and download folders? And if the answer is that I have to completely reinstall 200 plus mods I am going to go ballistic. Tannin42
You don't, Vortex doesn't forget the staging and download folder when you upgrade. Unless you have deleted the appdata/roaming/vortex directory you don't have to do anything. If you did do that you have also deleted all meta data Vortex had on these files and mods. You can rename your existing staging/download folder, let Vortex create new empty ones in the locations you want them, then move everything from the renamed folders. Vortex will pick them up accordingly (if you don't mess up) but again: All the meta information will be gone. You can use "query info" on the downloads to fetch meta info for the downloads and for the mods you can change the source to "nexus" and have it guess the mod id which will restore some nfo.
