Vortex on SkyrimSE

I've been using the Vortex for a couple of months. I made an attempt with the Mod Organizer, but ... quite frankly ... it was too technical for me. Everything worked perfectly, until today, and I wondered if anyone else has had this problem.

My player character met with Delphine at the Sleeping Giant Inn, and the next morning, I set out for Kynesgrove. This has always been one of my favorite quests. I turned the corner from Winhelm towards the road that leads to Kynsegrove and, CTD. I tried everything I knew, and nothing worked. Frustrated as you know what, I finally completed the quest right where I was, using the console. I got on my horse, and turned back towrds Windhlem (thinking to spend the night, there), and ... CTD. I tried a couple of workarounds, and there was always a CTD. So, I did a "moveto" to Ivarstead. Since then, I've had no problems.

I'm not a modder, so I don't know how big Kynesgrove's cell is. It's almost as if there's a hole in the world, where Kynesgrove is located.

Has anyone else had this problem? Note that I have a high-end computer, and I run the program on high priority, so computer resources are not a problem.

I didn't put this post in the technical problems forum, but thought the problem is at least interesting, besides being frustrating. As I continue this playthrough, I hope that it doesn't pop up in other locations.

Best to use Vortex on a new install. I run Skyrim SE and FO4 with vortex with no problems.

Skyrim LE is still running on NMM, also perfect. So, if it goes perfect, then why change?

That's exactly what I did. I completely deleted Skyrim SE (going into my SATA drive to make sure everything was gone), and re-downloaded from Steam. Then, I downloaded Vortex, and started the process of downloading my favorite mods, along with some new ones that I've never used. It worked perfectly, until I got close to Kynesgrove. Even when I was using the NMM, I always had trouble with some of the locations you HAVE TO GO TO, in order to continue with the main quest line.

On my old computer, I could not enter Bleak Falls Barrow, without a CTD within 5 seconds of entering. Also, I had to find the alternate route to the Barrow, because there was a CTD on the path leading to the Bandit Tower. My new computer has a i7-7700 microprocessor, with 64 gb of system RAM. Although it's not impossible for these problem to be caused by the computer, it's unlikely.

Please note that I play Witcher 3 with absolutely no problems at all, on Vortex. It also work perfectly on Oldrim, and I'm running 255 plugins. I'm only having CTD problems with Skyrim SE.

@Tragthemercenary ,

From a topic years ago, which one I don't remember anymore, I remember one thing, CTD every time in a certain area then there should be something wrong with the textures. Although I have a "always have had this" mod, which let my game now CTD in the main questline.

@digitaltrucker,

How did you manage that with Oblivion? Vortex seems not to work with omod files, and body, armor and cloth replacers seems to be in the right destiny but are never loaded into the game. All other "normal" mods work as intended.

When Vortex came out I almost pushed the button until I read that Nexus Management advised not using it yet because of bugs, so I'm sticking with NMM because it works just fine. Until that day comes when I load up Skyrim and it tells me that NMM does not exist anymore and I'm forced to use Vortex. Also I've noticed how mod authors are starting to change to only ESL's slowly forcing me to abandon mods I've used forever so I guess the end of NMM is near.

I played Skyrim until 2013, then got into FC3, then quit gaming for the most part. Came back to Skyrim SE in about July 2018, And I was surprised to see this new mod manager"Vortex". What was more surprising, Nexus Mod Manager was still there, still beta, still unfinished. That part, I don't understand. Seems like finishing it before starting something new would be better.

But I read a few negative comments about Vortex, and decided right then to stick with what i used before. NMM.

Maybe I'll try Vortex one of these days on a new install, of which I have 2 waiting in the wings..
