ARGamingChannel
Hello, probably a noob question, but how would you install and launch SKSE with Vortex for Skyrim Special Edition? I'm afraid to mess up and break something. Help would be appreciated.Link to SKSE: http://skse.silverlock.org/
rmm200
Follow the instructions in the link you posted to install the game directory files (exe, dll, etc). Then add the entire archive you downloaded as a mod to Vortex. That will pick up the scripts you need.
ARGamingChannel
When you mean the "entire archive" is that the entire folder that was downloaded? Edit: Installed it and followed all directions but now I am getting an error saying "Couldn't find TESV.exe." whenever I try to launch SKSE from Vortex.Edit 2: Nvm. Just realized I was downloading the wrong version.
Lynchsta
The whole change with how this is done now with Vortex sucks and it is NOT obvious to people who aren't long-time players. I did this years ago with the Nexus Mod Manager in place and everything was fairly easy. I now have Skyrim SE and am trying to use vortex to install mods that require SKSE, and it is a monstrous pain in the ass. The extremely out of date instructions as well as the instructional video on the silverlock page makes it quite frustrating.

Simply copy the contents of the script extender folder and paste them into the game folder. (If you want to forego manual installation, you can install the script extender as a mod. However, that's not necessary. I myself prefer manual installation.) As for the Vortex tool dashlet, simply select the script extender .exe as target and the script extender folder as "start in" folder. It's really quite simple. rmm200
Just for a test, stop Vortex.Navigate to your Skyrim SE directory.Run skse64_loader.exeSkse64 missing? You installed it wrong. Try again.Skyrim SE comes up and runs? Congratulations. You installed SKSE correctly. That will also tell you your dashboard shortcut for SKSE points to the wrong place. Edit it and fix the path. HadToRegister
It's much quicker to just stick all the DLL and EXEs in the Game root folder that has the game.exe in it, and then to put the SCRIPTS folder from the archive in the DATA folder. Deleted72810353User
I usually turn the data folder from script extender into a zip file, name it F4/SK:SE Scripts, and drop it into Vortex, so everything in the data folder is handled by vortex

I like it because you have a record of installed version on the Vortex mods page. (Keep the download name as part of your archive name)Hopefully no one thinks this handles the SKSE executables. It does not.

It does not. I believe Gopher shows this in one of his older videos regarding setting up MO/NMM for legacy skyrim. I just rename the Script extender data folder to <game> Scripts and slap the current version of script extender in vortex, 0.6.17 for F4SE in this case :-)
