I have done the NCR ending, the house ending, and the indie ending and all three for valid role play reasons on different characters. I did a fast-run through caesar ending because I am OCD about achievements (can't believe how fast/easy it was to power through from ncr friendly to all legion acheivements done.)

I like the NCR even though they have a problem with over-taxation and corruption (the bane of all democracies)

I hate caesar. lets see, misogyny (women are second class, can't choose to be soldiers or anything but slave, healer, or wife). no due process of law, they like to torture people, the take away alcohol. let's say that again. no pot, no whiskey, no card playing, no caravan. nope. none of it. what else. oh yeah, NCR might be a dick and take your land by due process/eminent domain but they would have to pay you money. and oh, if you were not violent, they would not a) kill you b) force you into a legion/slavery etc.

basically to like caesar is like facscism. there is very little crime but there is no freedom. you do what the leaders say. hey, you want to be a courier or maybe a trader? EFF you, you are told what to do in caesars world. you are a legion soldier, a slave, or a subject. did I mention torture? not jail or execution, but torture.

each ending has downsides. if you go NCR, goodsprings suffers. if you go independent, it is hard on the followers at the mormon fort with the refugees.

not sure how I will end it this play through. I have made the kings friends with ncr. everyone loves me. and I am at the point where I have to make a decision so I am doing other stuff.

Independent Vegas, hands down. I didn't like the NCR or Legion, and House seemed far too authoritarian and right-wing for my tastes, and I very much enjoy the prospect of becoming the just ruler of the Mojave on my own terms and by my own rules. It means that I get to decide the future of each faction personally, and I like to imagine my Courier becoming leader of one of the strongest factions in America by 2300.

My Courier is exceptionally powerful in direct combat, so I'm not really afraid of Yes Man - he tries to sic his army of Securitrons on me, and my companions and I will slaughter our way through them until we can cut down Yes Man himself.

NCR is a good ending if all the needed quests are done.

House has a problem. He doesn't care about Freeside.

And I do.So since I bring truce between NCR and the Kings and help the Followers a lot.

And I convince the NCR to leave the Followers at the Fort I have the best ending possible.

Nice to see this topic still drawing in folks with good observations, ideas and opinions.

And looking at the poll numbers it seems that the Independent New Vegas ending is the prefered choice.

Being in charge of your own city with a personal army of robots seems to me the best outcome.

All factions are flawed in their own ways, no matter what the NCR fans might like to suggest.

Therefore, I believe that starting anew with a wholly different faction, free of the traps of the Old World (NCR trying to revive America, Legion trying to resurrect Rome, House trying to create a clone of Las Vegas) is by far the best possible option.

Every form of government is flawed. Even in a supposedly fair democracy, you run into stalemates. Realistically the best form of government is one where someone has total control, but that requires the someone to be a person who can handle the responsibility, have enough power to survive those who would seek to bring them down, have the vision for what is absolutely best for the society, and actually care, but even in that perfect scenario, it still requires you to have a successor with those same qualities and therein lies yet another flaw.

Mr House made himself immortal of sorts.

So, he is the best candidate in the vanilla game... ^^

Being immortals isn't a solution either. Mr House only looked at people as pawns and aside from his own preservation he had no real incentive to actually help the Mohave. He looked at it as a game and only really gave a crap about the Strip. Not out of any sense of caring for the people, but because it was his project. He was more obsessed with preserving the "feel" of pre-war Vegas than any kind of progress anyways.

Just remember Yes Man's last words.I think your joy as a ruler won't last long.

The Developers have said that was basically Yes Man saying that he would no longer just take orders from everyone, only you, so you wouldn't have to worry about someone just wandering in and taking over when you were out of the Lucky 38.
