astroknott58
I have tried and tried to make Vortex work but it's a nightmare. Unbelievably slow. In fact so slow I finally just gave up and uninstalled it. Going back to NMM. I also read somewhere that they were having issues with SSD drives and Vortex. So I uninstalled it from my SSD and put it on my regular HDD. Same issues. Absurdly slow. Unusable unless major changes are made. If there is a way to make it work properly I am all ears. This needs to be fixed or Nexus needs to go back to NMM as the choice for installing mods.

Nope, Vortex is the superior mod manager, trouble-free and automatically sorts your load order, and shows you file conflicts that you'd never know about with NMM.Having said that, you're not looking for help with Vortex, you're just complaining about it and are now using NMM, so, there's really no point in continuing. Vortex works just fine for me, I installed it on my D:\ drive and properly set up my Mod Staging Folder (I didn't put it inside my game folder like people seem to insist on doing), and Download folder on my D:\ drive so I can use Hardlinks, and everything works well. So, be sure to download the latest NMM at github so you can log into Nexusmods, also be sure to go into SETTINGS and click the ASSOCIATE WITH NXM LINKS in NMM
rmm200
A common user problem is to conflate "I am having problems with Vortex" to "Vortex is useless and works for no one".The second case is flat false. Sorry you are having problems with your install. In the future, if you do decide you want to try Vortex again, and would like help with your specific problems you need to provide more information like:1) Vortex version2) Managed game having problems3) Directory paths for download, mod staging, and game directory4) Number of mods downloaded, installed, and enabled.5) If a specific mod is having issues, name of mod and download location Wiki must cover all this somewhere, but almost no one requesting help provides it. AugustaCalidia
If there is a way to make it work properly I am all ears. This needs to be fixed or Nexus needs to go back to NMM as the choice for installing mods. Claiming that Vortex does not work properly belies the fact that numerous participants in these Vortex forums have properly working installations of Vortex. Vortex works properly for me, and it has done so since I started using the alpha version early last year. I have fully functional Vortex installations on two separate SSD equipped gaming computers. The problem is not Vortex; it's new users who jump in before taking any serious time to learn Vortex basics. Probably the most common mistake made is putting the mod staging folder in the wrong place. That mistake can be easily avoided by spending some time with the available Vortex documentation such as the introductory videos and the Vortex Knowledge Base. rmm200
Second most common error is trying to add a loose file as a mod, like "something.esp".If you want to add a loose file as a mod - zip it up first as an archive. Vortex will happily add that.
BigBizkit
It's certainly not slow for most users, so what you are experiencing is abnormal. That being said, I would be interested in troubleshooting this, and/or finding out why Vortex is being slow for you. To do that, however, we would require more information about your set up. What game are you managing? How many mods? Anything particular about your set up?
astroknott58
I only use it for Skyrim SE. I also only have about 6 mods so it’s not like it should be under any strain. I completely uninstalled Skyrim SE and did a clean install. I also uninstalled Vortex and reinstalled it. So I go in Nexus mods and download a mod with Vortex to test things. Still the same. It literally takes about 3 solid minutes to finish the installation before I can do anything else with it. It’s completely absurdly slow. You would think it was having to calculate Pi to the millionth decimal place. I am fed up trying to fix it. But if anyone has suggestions I am willing to try them. Also I read my issue isn’t that uncommon. Seems a number of people are having similar issues.
rmm200
You are still not giving enough information to even comment on. There are four parts to installing a mod.1) Download2) Install (which unpacks the archive)3) Enable (Just sets a flag)4) Deploy (makes the mod usable by the game) If you actually want to be helpful, tell us how long each of these take. Indicate if you are locked out of Vortex for any of these. Vortex normally multi-tasks - a lot.
astroknott58
Ok I do all of those steps. Each and every steps has a 2 to 3 minute delay while it seems like the program is unresponsive. But wait long enough and it finishes whatever it was doing. I was control alt deleteing out for a while thinking the program was locked up till I figured out it was just ridiculously slow. Edit: I noticed a couple posters saying it needs to be installed right. So I just install it with the default settings. Is default installation wrong? rmm200
OK - you have something else going on.After the next delay, open the event log, You can type event at the windows search bar.See if you are getting any Windows exceptions at that time. Also, what AV are you using? Try pausing it...
