eaiym
So at the moment I'm trying to set the staging folder to C:\Vortex but it keeps telling me there's an error and that I don't have user permission to write to this directory. It doesn't ask for permission; my account is administrator for obvious reasons being that this is a shared PC and I'm the owner, but I'm not running Vortex as administrator so I can't see how that would mess up permissions. I've tried to place the staging folder to everywhere, even my own account's user file, and it still says I 'need to select directories that the current user account can write to!'. I'm on the current version of Vortex. Any help?

eaiym
It's probably not best to use jargon with me I'm not the most technologically intuitive person. What's UAC?

UAC = User Account Control. This is a fundamental security feature of Windows, starting with Vista.

DaveClaw
C:\ is a more protected location in recent versions of Windows. If you create the folder as Documents > Vortex instead that might work. The path is then C: > Users > YOURNAME > Documents > Vortex If you have a second hard drive, D: > Vortex would also work. That's much safer than turning off UAC. UAC is on recommended settings. As I said in the original post, I've already tried to put the path in my specific folder of the users area, with no luck. If Skyrim is in C:\ program files \bethesda softworks\skyrim would it not clash with Vortex if it was in the D drive? I thought they had to be on the same one. Vortex can be on a different drive, but the Mod Staging Folder has to be on the same drive as the game That's where you change itNote my Mod Staging Folder is nowhere NEAR the Steam\steamapps\common\Skyrim Special Edition folder. I meant, would it not clash with Vortex if it [the staging folder] was in a different drive. I've tried placing the staging folder in a ton of different places in the C: drive, which is the same drive Skyrim is in. Every time I put it somewhere it said I don't have permission to write in this location. I don't understand. I never had this issue with Nexus Mod Manager. I wouldn't even be using Vortex if I could still use NMM to download mods straight from the nexus instead of downloading them manually and fiddling with them.
