Why do so few asians ever seem to endorse the mods they like?

This is a chart made from endorsers of my mod, Commonwealth Gunfire Overhaul.

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/36511

To be clear, I'm not trying to start up some racist flaming here, I myself am Asian and live in Asia.

Out of 230 endorsers in total, 84 of them publicly show their nationality.

Out of those 84, only 8 of them display an Asian country on their profile.

Is it the lack of Asian users here one Nexusmods, or what? I mean if you consider that more than half of the world's population is Asian.. it does seem weird, doesn't it?

Yes, I am aware that the number of users from the US is dominant. Perhaps that's because this website based in the US, I suppose?

Just genuinely curious. It's not like where they are from affect my mod in any way...

Interestingly, there seem to be quite a bit of users from Thailand here. (relatively speaking among Asian countries)

I am going to go out on a limb here - being from a non-English speaking (natively) country, navigating an English-only site may not be as easy for others, and thus, the whole endorsement thing may just slip past them, as it were.

Years ago I used to visit a French site that had stuff about collecting miniatures (which I was heavily into at the time). Americans have access to mostly American-only minis, and the French site had a nicer range of stuff, mostly from Europe, but Australia as well. In all honesty, I was barely able to navigate the site using translators, and if there was some sort of 'kudos' system in place, I certainly wouldn't have known about it.

Now, most folks who use the internet or are even the slightest bit tech-savvy speak at least some English (not being racist or anything here, its simply a fact - the internet is built around the English language, and the accepted language of scientific documentation the world-over is English). Thus, in Thailand just abut anyone who is on the internet (gamers) will speak English to some degree. I've had Thai friends from my various pastimes/hobbies on the internet. There probably is a large part of the population who DO NOT speak English, but they'd be the ones living in very rural areas and not accessing the internet... at all. In more 'developed' countries (walking on eggs here), like China and Japan, it is far more likely that a non (or poorly) English speaker is accessing the internet, because those countries have their own tech bases and English isn't as essential. Ergo, players from 'smaller' countries without their own tech-base may actually have a somewhat better command of the language, because they are forced to, and thus, may understand the endorsement system a little better.

Just my 2¢ - I used to run the International mini-Exchange (its not nearly as big a deal as it sounds LOL), and had to deal with many other countries, people, and their customs/laws/idiosyncrasies, so although I have no actual degree in psychology (just a few college credits from back in the day), I have some 'worldly' experience in the matter (pun intended).

hmm, making a chart of your own mod doesn't prove much. I mean, do you have total download number from those countries to compare endorsement ratio to?

Markus has a point too. I have found myself on Russian sites and using translators just to find the download tab. Who knows where the hell the endorsement button is..

In hindsight, probably not the safest sites to visit, but damn those military fps game armor rips look sexy. haha

Sure, I mean there is possibly no way for me to know the download/endorsement ratio by country, but the total proportion of nationalities among those who DID endorse still shows something, don't you think?

  • 4 weeks later...

Not a bit.

AFAIK there are 3 army-horny countries out there… USA, Russia and Korea.

Yes, Japan and China have large armies too, but they dont get a boner when talking about it, unlike (many, NOT all!!) americans and russiancs seem to get. And Korea, well, ist that one guy… anyway…

My Point is, many chinese and japanese players are more into Animes/Sci-Fi than 'RL army stuff', sure there are some, but as you stated, half the world is asian, and to my experience, the bigger half of gaming asians is (probably) more into anime stuff than '"RL" army stuff'.

Long Story short, I dont think that anime fans will download your mod.

Also, some People like me just dont care about 'proper' gun sounds.

So, from my Point of view, your 'target audience' is: USA, Russia and Korea.

How's about the endorsements with these nationalities?

My 2 cents
